Finding Toys in Everyday Situations

You're home alone. You're bored. Your favorite mousie is under the stove. You have all sorts of extra energy stored up. What are you doing to do?

Fishing poles toys are out -- nobody to hold the pole.

Fetch is out -- nobody to bring the ball back to.

Kitchen Let's find something new to play with for a while. Hmmmm¶ Don't see anything? You just don't know where to look! There are all sorts of neat toys the humans leave laying around for us. Let's start in the kitchen. This is a great place, because sometimes you find a snack while you're at it. There are twist ties from the bread bags; the plastic rings from around the milk bottle top, and over by the telephone there are usually pens and pencils. All of these make great batting toys! The kitchen sink is the most likely one to drip, so it makes a wonderful drinking fountain. And it's always fun to leave pawprints on the counter, and then everybody look innocent when the human invariably asks, "OK, Who was on the counter?"

Moving on the living room, we find more great toys and things to amuse us. There are usually magazine or newspapers on the coffee table, but more about those later. There is also the TV remote control (or clicker), which is great fun to play with. With practice, you can turn on the TV and watch the animal channel all day. An added attraction here is watching the human try to find it when they get home!

From here we move on to the bathroom. Besides the porcelain fountain, this room has many attractive items. Q-tips and cotton balls are fun to bat around, and you can unroll the toilet paper to make some really beautiful artwork. Sometimes you'll find tubes on the counter, and these can be fun to step on and feel the stuff inside squish around. Bite at your own risk. Some of it tastes a little like catmint, but some is really icky!

On to the bedroom: This is my personal favorite. Dressers have all sorts of fun things to play with: coins, jewelry, and little knickknacks that make a tinkling sound when you bat them around. And socks! Clean or dirty it really doesn't matter. Socks are the best things to drag around. You can pretend they're prey and shake and bite them. And they smell like your human, so they make wonderful bedding material. In order to make your nest as colorful as possible, try to get one of each color and pattern. This will also cause the human the most difficulty when it comes to laundry time!

Have you got the idea now? If I were to send you into a den, would you be able to find toys? I'll bet you could! So it's time to move on.
