I
don't know about you, but I've just got to be doing something with
my hands ALL THE TIME. I find needle crafts like cross stitch and
quilting to be very relaxing - my mind just drifts away. Even better
is when my crafting projects allow me to create something beautiful
and useful for my home. I hope that you enjoy my selection of crafty
books too. If there's one you love, and it's not here, please let
me know about it, and I'll add it to my site, along with your review.
Thanks!
The
Soapmaker's Companion : A Comprehensive Guide with Recipes, Techniques
& Know-How.
The companion book to The Natural Soap Book, this book is, if nothing
else, even MORE helpful than the first. Easily used alone, or with
the first. The sections on the chemistry of soap making are great,
as well, and provided a great project for science for my son.
Milk-Based
Soaps : Making Natural, Skin-Nourishing Soap
I haven't actually read this one, but it's by the same publishers
as the Soapmaker's Companion and Natural Soap - I own a lot of Storey
Books (the publishers) and they're all really high quality work.
Root
Cellaring : Natural Cold Storage of Fruits and Vegetables
I have checked this very same book out repeatedly from a number of
libraries all across the US (during my moves), and finally decided...
I need to buy this book! Most people will say "Root Cellaring?
What's that got to do with Crafts?" But I feel that using the
old methods of putting up and preserving foods, just like the old
methods of creating clothing, soaps, and decorative works, are all
legitimate crafts, that take skill and practice. I hope you'll agree.
The
Big Book of Preserving the Harvest
Another book I finally broke down and bought, after checking it out
repeatedly from the library. This book covers canning, drying and
freezing, the proper techniques, and some recipes to boot. I think
you'll enjoy "putting up" your garden harvest, too.
