Structured Wiring

How Structured Wiring Works in New Construction

A Structured wiring system consists of:

Home Run instead of the traditional daisy chain approach is the preferred wiring technique . Each jack in the home is connected by its own cable to the Central Wiring Hub.

It's a modular system, so it can be configured for just the functions and features you want. With the necessary communications and coaxial cables installed behind the walls of your new home, and with attractive wall plates installed in most rooms, you can add other functions later without going through a messy and expensive retrofit.

Central Wiring Hub

An enclosure is mounted in a central and preferably temperature controlled area. All wiring from each room jack is brought to this panel. All services (phone, cable TV) are also terminated here.

What can be mounted in this area:

  • Computer LAN Hubs -so any room can be put on the computer network
  • Video Distribution-any room can have access to any video source
  • Telephone Distribution-any room can have up to 4 lines
  • Video Modulators-can be mounted in this area to distribute CCTV
Video and Data Cabling
Category 3 (4 pair) wire is used for voice communications.
Category 5 cables are used for all data communications.
These are unshielded, with 4 twisted pairs and they are capable of operating up to 100 megahertz with data rates up to 100 megabits per second.
Coaxial Cables are RG6, quad-shielded for interference free video distribution
