"INFLATABLE" To "ISOGONAL LINE"

Inflatable, In Irons, Inland Lake, Inland Navigation Rules, Inland Waters,
Inlet, Inner Forestay, Inshore, Inshore Waters, In-Stays, In-Stops,
Inter-Coastal-Waterway, International-Code-Of-Signals,
International Dateline, Interoceanic, Iron Gennie,
IRPCS, Isobar, Isogonal Line.

INFLATABLE
A Dinghy or raft that can be inflated for use or deflated for easy
Stowage.

IN IRONS
A sailboat with its Bow pointed directly into the Eye-Of-The-Wind
with Sails Luffing.

INLAND LAKE
A large Navigable Body-Of-Water governed by Inland Navigation
Rules enforced by the United States Coast Guard (USCG).
(Lake Michigan or any one of the Great Lakes in the Midwest,
is a prime example of an Inland Lake.)

INLAND NAVIGATION RULES
(Rules-Of-The-Road)
U.S. Coast Guard Rules of navigation that conform with IRPCS rules
for the operation of Vessels on United States Inland Waters
(Also see COLREGS)

INLAND WATERS
Navigable Waters such as Bays, Channels, Harbors, Inland Lakes,
and Navigable Rivers.

INLET
1. A Bay or Cove along a river, Sea or Lake coast line.
2. A stream or Bay leading inland.
3. A narrow passage between two bodies of land.

INSHORE
Near the Coast

INSHORE WATERS
Navigable Waters within twelve miles of the Coast.

IN-STAYS
(See IN IRONS)

IN-STOPS
Using short lines of Stopping Twine tied around the Sail repeatedly
along its height to keep it Furled while it is being Hoisted.

INTER-COASTAL-WATERWAY
(ICW)
A system of rivers and canals along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts of
the United States.

INTERNATIONAL CODE OF SIGNALS
(ICOS)
An international system of maritime signals using Morse Code,
Signal Pennants, and Semaphore in which single letters and
letter combinations are given certain designations readily
understood among many nations, requiring no translation.

INTERNATIONAL DATELINE
(Dateline)
A theoretical line, running North and South along the 180th
meridian, which demarcates the calendar date of the regions to the
East as one day earlier than the regions to the West.

INTEROCEANIC
A term indicating Oceans that interconnect.

IRON GENNIE
(Iron Headsail)
The Engine On Board a Sailboat.

IRPCS
(International-Regulations-for-Preventing-Collisions-at-Sea)
Maritime regulations, internationally sanctioned, for the safety
of Vessels at Sea.

ISOBAR
A line drawn on a weather map or chart connecting points of
equal Barometric Pressure. The closer the lines, the greater
the pressure and the Wind.

ISOGONAL LINE
(Isogonic Line)
A line drawn on a map or chart connecting points of equal
Magnetic Variation.
