Dec
28, 1914 letter from James Sterling Scott, (1833-1922) of
Cooksville, Illinois to his nephew John Albert Scott (1866-1954) of Ste
Croix, Nova Scotia.
Cooksville Dec 28th 1914
My Dear Nephew [John Albert Scott
(1866-1954)]
Your remembrance with your and boys
pictures came to hand to day and we were glad to receive them, the boys
[John Redford Scott (1909-1958) & Frederick C.G. Scott (b. 1911)]
look as though they were fine chaps. All our children have grown up and
have left home. Walter
[Dill Scott (1869-1955)]
goes today to New York to give a speech before the Edison
people.
John
[Adams Scott (1867-1947)] goes to Philadelphia to a meeting of
Greek professors, Retta [Emma Henrietta (Scott) Smith] is in
California. Lou [Louise (Scott) Campbell] is in Ottawa about 60
miles from here, that is the nearest of any of the children to
us, the boys live about 140 miles from us when at home.
If I live until the 19th of next
May I will be 82 years old, I do not know whether your Father [David
Scott (1825-1906)] lived that long or not, of if your parents both
lived 50 years after marriage. It has been very cold here for
December as we expect our coldest days in January or February.
We suppose you are very much
worried over the war as it looks as though it might be a long and
wicked war. I hope this New Year will find you all well, and
happy and that you will not let the Scott family become strangers to
one another.
Wishing you and yours a happy New
Year I remain lovingly Yours, James S.
Scott [James Sterling Scott (1833-1922)]
