Why you should use DDClient
- It removes the restrictions imposed by the limited DDE capabilities of Visual Basic.
- It is much faster than the VB mechanism.
- It does not miss any data on hot or warm links, unless programmed to slow the server down.
- Data in any format can be received and sent, not just strings.
- DDClient allows you to use DDE in a Visual Basic authored ActiveX Control.
- The programming interface has a class structure which VB programmers will feel
at home with.
- Event driven programming or synchronous calls can be used.
- DDClient allows any number of links on Windows 95. The VB mechanism can cause a GPF.
- The help file includes an overview of DDE and complete design time context sensitive help.
- The control uses the DDEML API to provide guaranteed correct DDE protocol usage.
- DDClient future proofs your application because native DDE support has been removed from VB.NET. Note: the Beta 1 release
of VB.NET has an incomplete COM wrapper mechanism which prevents DDClient events from working. We are promised in the .NET newsgroups
that this will be fixed in Beta 2.
- DDClient can be used with VBA in Microsoft Office applications and
in VBScript.

Installation and removal
The DDClient ZIP files contain Setup.exe and ReadMe.txt.
Setup installs the full and evaluation controls in the system directory.
The help file and test applications are installed in the folder of
your choice. An uninstall icon is placed in the program group, the Control Panel Add/Remove programs applet
can also be used to uninstall DDClient.
The controls and test programs require MSVBVM50.DLL or MSVBVM60.DLL as appropriate.
You can, however, use either version of the control with either version of VB
as long as the required DLL is present.
-
The evaluation version does not require a design time licence but may not be deployed
with your applications or used commercially. It is fully functional but allows only one conversation and
two advise and request loops. A splash screen is shown every time it loads.
The limitations have been chosen to make the control suitable for most personal use.
To get you started a Test Application is provided.
-
The full version has no limitations and shows the about box only when
commanded. A design time licence per developer is required for you to use
it in your applications. You may not distribute the licence keys, but the controls
themselves can be distributed with your applications at no cost. The compiled
Test Application allows you to test the full control
with any DDE server. To purchase a license, please
contact us.
