Episode 28, "The Rescue"
Previously on Friends and Foes,
HONOLULU BEACH - DAY
"I’ll see you in Hell, buddy." Josie says, closing her eyes, getting ready to pull the trigger.
Josie fires the revolver, and the sound of the shot explodes into the air and disappears into the water. Alex yelps as some water splashes into the air right next to him where the bullet hit, barely missing him.
Alex’s eyes go wide as he realizes fully that the girl before him, now cornering him with a gun was the same girl that he hit with his car. "It’s you!"
"Yeah...it’s me. You should know by now from your past that the dead are never really dead the first time!"
"How do YOU know about my past?!"
"Puh-leaze. Taylor’s girlfriend, Lyndsay, happens to be my roommate and my best friend. Don’t think she didn’t let me in on all the skeletons you have in your closet...skeletons that will never hear or see the light of day."
Josie aims the gun, but before she can fire it again, the driver of the boat screams at her.
"Hey, what are you doing?!"
Alex recognizes the voice and turns back toward the boat. "Amanda?"

"You stay out of this!" Josie screams at Amanda dementedly, who is slowly approaching.
"Like Hell!" Amanda screams back dismissively, "Put down the gun!"
Josie completely turns her attention to Amanda now, leaving Alex to watch on in awe. "I’ll kill you if I have to!"
Josie raises the gun, but Amanda retaliates immediately by tackling Josie to the harsh floor of the boat. They tumble over some railing to a walkway that goes around the base of the boat. The gun goes sprawling and slips into the ocean.
Amanda falls onto Josie, but doesn’t hesitate to fight her; she pins Josie to the ground with one hand, then swings back and slaps her across the face with the other. Josie struggles ferociously, swinging and thrashing her hands and arms at Amanda.
Finally, Josie gets a good blow in as she scratches Amanda’s face. Amanda squeals, falling back with her hands clutching her face. Josie springs into the air and lands into Amanda.
Meanwhile, as the brawl ensues, Alex swims over to where Taylor is sinking and grabs him with both arms, resurfacing him. "Taylor?!"
Alex checks him, looking for any signs of breathing or life. He sighs when he sees Taylor’s chest heaving slightly, but the blood spilling from his stomach is startling.
"Oh my God." Alex murmurs.
Back on the boat, the girls are standing up now, going at it harsher than before. Amanda has her fingers dug deep in Josie’s shoulders, slamming her up against a wall of the boat. Josie lunges forward and shoves her. Amanda tumbles off of the deck and into the water, but not without grabbing Josie.
Josie hits her head hard on some railing as Amanda splashes into the water.
HOSPITAL OF HONOLULU - TWO HOURS LATER
Lyndsay and Candice scurry into the lobby of the Emergency Room, horrified expressions on their faces.
They meet glances with Amanda and Alex who stands up. "Thank God you guys are here."
"What happened? How is he?" Lyndsay pleads, hundreds of thoughts and questions running through her head.
"Taylor’s in the E.R. He has a deep laceration in his stomach and there was a lot of blood loss."
"Oh My God..." Lyndsay gasps, covering her open mouth, as she sits down.
"What happened?" Candice asks, hugging Alex.
"It’s Josie...she tried to kill us." Alex explains. Candice looks confused into his eyes, and Lyndsay suddenly gazes up at him.
"Josie? Are you sure? That doesn’t make any sense! Are you sure?"
"Yes, she came out of nowhere and kind of stabbed Taylor with her water ski, then she tried to shoot me and she missed. Then Amanda came out of the drivers seat and got in a fight with Josie and here we are..."
"Amanda?" Candice asks.
Amanda waves. "That’s me."
"You guys totally lost me...what the Hell is going on?" Lyndsay says, grasping her head.
Alex looks at Lyndsay, and hesitates. He doesn’t want to tell Lyndsay or Candice the truth, but there is no other way.
He sits down and takes a breath. "A couple of weeks ago, on Valentine’s Day, I was driving home and I hit girl with my car. I thought she was dead, and I was freaked out, so I took her body and took her home. I found it she was Josie, your roommate, Lyndsay."
Candice and Lyndsay’s mouths are dropped in shock and disbelief.
"Anyways, I dumped her body, and I guess I thought she was dead. So she came out of nowhere, water skiing, while me and Taylor were surfing, and she tried to kill us. Taylor was drowning, and Amanda fought with Josie, and eventually Josie hit her head and I guess she got knocked out and..."
"I’ve heard enough!" Lyndsay interrupts, as she gets up and runs off. Candice just looks at Alex in awe.
After a moment, Candice speaks in disgust towards Alex’s actions. "How could you have done something like that? I thought you were...you were something else."
"Candice-"
"What? Are you going to try and explain this?"
"No, it’s just...I was terrified, ok? I was afraid I would go to jail for the rest of my life and there was no stopping it." Alex pleads.
"So that makes everything ok?"
"No," Alex says, looking at his shoes," I know it doesn’t."
Candice shakes her head. "I need some time. I have to think about this."
"But, Candice!"
"I need some time!" She says again, walking away from Alex. "I'm going back home. I'll talk to you when you get back."
Alex stands there, watching her disappear out of sight, then he slumps into his chair. "Great. What a horrible mess."
Amanda is quiet.
"What’s wrong with you?" Alex asks.
She sighs. "I’ve never been in a situation like that. Staring down the barrel of a gun and it’s either kill or be killed..."
Alex hugs Amanda, to give her at least an ounce of comfort, as a single tear wells up in her eye and then falls to her face and to the floor.
"It'll be ok." Alex's voice is soothing.
"I just hope everyone is ok."
UC SAN DIEGO DORM ROOM - NIGHT
Devin walks into his room, throwing his sweater on to his bed and tossing his backpack onto his small desk. He plops down on to the bed and tries to get some relaxation.
He looks exhausted, and is about to doze off into a splendorous sleep, when a harsh knock comes from the door.
His eyelids shoot open, and then he rolls his eyes. "Coming!"
Devin struggles to roll out of bed and drowsily tramps to the front door. When he opens it, he sees nothing but a large, yellow manila envelope at his doorstep. Suspicious, Devin picks up the envelope.
"What the Hell?" He glances at the envelope for a moment, then tears open the top and looks at the contents.
What he sees is shocking. His eyes go wide with fear and anguish, as he drops the photos in his hand to the floor and slowly backs away in panic.
The photos are all of Jeff, tied up to a chair and beaten to a pulp.
