The Pool-Dog's World
Race #4 of the 2001 season- Wilkes Barre, PA
Sorry, no pictures
May 20, 2001-NEPA Region SCCA. My first time in this region (You can see by now that I'm getting around!). The event is held in a mall parking lot, in a very small section. Tight courses are the only type that can be set-up with so little space, and they do well with what they get. I tried using my stock rims and tires at this event to try to gain some initial grip from the starting line since my 16's seem to spin easily and waste time-you either get some spin or bog down-neither one helps. I didn't start out as well as Moyer-he seemed to have the best grasp of the course in STS after his first set of runs (we ran 3 runs, break, then 3 more runs), and as I started finally pushing the car in the afternoon I clipped a cone on each of my runs and ended up suffering for it. My best raw time was .3 sec behind Moyer, but a cone penalty pushed me back to last in STS (5 drivers) and 2.3 sec's behind him in the official results. Damn cones. Reading the official results doesn't show that I actually ran well, but had an unfortunate meeting with a cone placed in a tough spot. I couldn't master the final turn of the course and paid for it.
I also decided that that event would be the last time I run my stock tires at autox! Too much roll and I couldn't get power to the ground to save my life. A power boost would've only made things worse-better rubber was the only thing I truly needed at that course...
good thing the God's smiled on me at the next race....
