The purpose for which the Youth Services Bureau was established is to provide programs and services aimed at preventing juvenile deliquency and empowering youth. Programs and services will emphasize accountability, education, decision-making skills, and self-esteem development in a positive, non-judgmental and confidential atmosphere. Through the spirit of volunteerism, programs and services will be cost-effective and focus on youth by reducing or preventing court interventions and placements. The Youth Services Bureau will promote, maintain and develop relationships with cities and towns within Belknap County and will work effectively and professionally with outside agencies. The Youth Services Bureau is committed to being an advocate for today's youth, seeking to improve our community's quality of life for our children and their families.
Services and Programs provided by the Bureau Juvenile Court Diversion is an early-intervention program that works with first-time juvenile offenders. Diversion recognzes that you made a mistake. The program allows you the opportunity to take responsibility and learn from your mistakes without going to court and potentially having a juvenile record. The purpose of the Upswing Program is to provide youth and their families with an avenue for resolving problems they may be having before the situation reaches the stage where court involvement would be necessary. An educational, community-based, early intervention alcohol and drug abuse prevention program serving New Hampshire's youth ages thirteen through eighteen. The Out of School Suspension program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to stay afloat academically, and give them support in re-entering the classroom enviroment. This is our newest form of Court Diversion. It allows youthful offenders to be judged by their peers in a real court of law. Teen Attorneys point out aggravating and mitigating circumstances around the case and the Teen Jury decides what the consequences will be.
