Bob Kayli
Real name Robert Gordy. Yep the brother of Berry Gordy Jr. the founder of Motown Records. The song "Everyone Was There" was about a beach party with a lot of song figures ( Peggy Sue, Jennie Lee, Patricia) mentioned in it. He also played the dope hustler in the movie "Lady Sings The Blues"
Bill Parsons is a real person and not just an alias of Bobby Bare's. Bill and Bobby are friends and at a recording session for Bill, at Fraternity Records, Bobby also recorded "The All American Boy" and "Rubber Dolly". Right after that Bobby went in the Army. After Elvis ( who the song is about) was inducted into the army, Fraternity decided to release the song. It was released under Bill Parsons name because Bobby was unable to tour and promote the song. Bill toured and lip-synched the tune. They are still friends and even today the song is still listed to Bill Parsons even though the song can be found on a Bobby Bare CD.
Robin
Luke
In a recent email from Robin he told me that "SUSIE DARLIN'
" was written after the loss of a lover. He used his sister's name (Susie)
so that there would be not question about some other girl in his high school
being involved.
He also said that he had a great time in rock and roll and had three songs on
the top ten, Susie Darlin', Everlovin' and Bad Boy. He continued in school getting
a BA/BS at Pepperdine University, MBA and Ph.D. in business at The University
of Missouri-Columbia. He has been an academic administrator for over 25 years
and is presently Professor and Head of the Department of Marketing at Southwest
Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. They have the largest business
school in Missouri and surrounding states.
He is happily married and has two kids, Tiffany 27 and Bob 22.
He still occasionally gets out to do an oldies concert and is just as bad/good
as ever!!
We old cats are sure good is the proper choice. Catch him if he appears
in your area
