If You Want Em, I Got Em
Still More, Great Fifties Artists
Man my heart still quivers a little when I think of Brenda Lee. You see, I was deeply in love with her once. But I never had a chance. Every other healthy, teen aged, male in the world was too. I did get to see her once at a live show in my hometown. Little Miss Dynamite, from her 1957 song, DYNAMITE, was her nickname and boy did she live up to it. Brenda Tarpley was born December 11th, 19---, (hey Brenda, I'll never tell) in Atlanta Georgia. |
She had her first BIG hit in 1959 with SWEET NOTHIN'S. Then came a list to long to name them all. How about, I'M SORRY, THAT'S ALL YOU GOTTA DO, JUST A LITTLE, I WANT TO BE WANTED, ROCKIN AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE, EMOTIONS, FOOL #1, BREAK IT TO ME GENTLY, and ALL ALONE AM I, to name a few. Brenda still performs live today and can be seen occasionally on television. She's still dynamite in my book. |
Dee Clark! Great
Voice! Arkansas born, Delectus Clark's, family moved to Chicago when he was a kid. At fourteen he recorded a song on Okeh records called HAMBONE. I know, old Bobaloons hasn't heard that one either. But I have heard JUST KEEP IT UP, HEY LITTLE GIRL, (both 1959) and RAINDROPS, (1961). Of course, who hasn't heard those fabulous tunes. |
Did anyone out there know that in 1957 Dee Clark took over a band called The Upsetters, when their famous leader quit singing rock and roll to go into the ministry. Yep none other than Little Richard himself. His band was named appropriately enough, because man did they upset the music world, not to mention a lot of teenager's parents. |

Hey Little Girl in the high school sweater,
can someone tell me why back in the fifties, girls in tight sweaters
all had boobs that would poke your eye out. What the hell was the deal?
I mean like, pointed ain't a natural shape for a boob.
A teepee, ok. But boobs? Remember Mamie Van Doren? Do I make my points?
Now that I've got that off my chest, let's get back to music.
"Does she
love me, with all her heart?" Tough question and
Clyde McPhatter wanted to know. Another great performer.
I know, I know. Bobaloons says they were all great. Well
they were. SEVEN DAYS, TREASURE OF LOVE, A LOVERS
QUESTION, WITHOUT LOVE, LOVEY DOVEY, SINCE YOU"VE
BEEN GONE, COME WHAT MAY. Do you think these were all
just flukes? No way. Like I said, another GREAT
performer. We lost Clyde in June of 72 to a heart attack.
He was only forty one. Does she love him? Man we all
loved him.
