36th ANNUAL WAG DAY
        September 29, 2000

In 1964, the Women's Auxiliary of the Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania began its annual fundraising effort they called "Wag Day." Wag Day was modeled after a Scottish custom of dog walkers collecting funds for homeless pets. The Auxiliary members and their friends and relatives have carried on the tradition and will continue to do so into the year 2000 and beyond.

This annual fundraiser has volunteers combing neighborhood streets with furry friends looking for donations. Busy lunchtime crowds get a treat when they dash out to cash a paycheck or to grab a quick bite to eat. It's a day full of smiles, stories, memories, and a chance to make new friends (both two-legged and four-legged).

Donations received during Wag Day go directly to shelter improvements. In previous years, funds have been used for projects such as helping to install a low-cost veterinary clinic for the area's homeless animals.
