The top two-seeded clans in Desert Fox moved on to face each other in the exciting Finals
series. Both sides made their share of blunders and had their share of luck. This is their
story.
GAME 1: 18 minutes, Territories Untamed, MoR 13, GTM 0
Both sides got 3 Wights and 6 ghols for pussing. GTM got 10 bows, 12 warriors, and 3 thrall.
MoR got 2 dwarves, 10 warriors, and 1 thrall. GTM divided their puss between 2 players and sent
3 thrall to guard the closest flag. Moving in two distinct armies, GTM then went north. MoR
also divided into two attack groups, but sent one west and one north. MoR had started in the
SE, GTM the SW. One attack group from each side faced off in the top middle as MoR tagged
GTM's southern flags and then moved north to sandwhich. GTM's other army had stayed slightly
awway from MoR's northern group, perhaps to surprise them. MoR snuck in a Ghol from behind in
the north, only managing to hurt 1 bowman. GTM moved in to kill MoR's eastern group, as MoR's
other army had not yet arrived and the northern army had retreated east. Skeletor of MoR
again snuck in with more puss and killed all but 2 of that group's bowmen. GTM, realizing
they were surrounded, managed to puss and kill the dwarf in the now western MoR army. GTM also
sent puss to the MoR army south of them, failing to accomplish anything. GTM rushed west with
melee units, and through good micromanaging and failure of the remains of GTM's puss, MoR was
able to kill them. MoR's two bowmen groups weakened the few warriors left and MoR's warriors
finished the job. GTM's thrall moved off of the last flag, ending the game.
GAME 2: 20 minutes, LMOTH Raid, Allied, No UT
Both GTM teams started at the top west and east and both MoR teams started in the bottom west and
east. Both sides rushed the middle, but GTM arrived first. Viper didn't notice GTM's mortar
dorfs and GTM got a free hit on his melee. MoR sent single zerks in suicide rushes to kill
GTM's missile units but failed. One of MoR's teams was to the west of the flag and one to the
south. Tuko in the west managed to start picking off enemy dorfs with his warlock, but MoR
attacked with melee in the south and was totally killed by both of GTM's armies. GTM then
charged west and killed the rest of MoR. GTM then killed each other. The final winners:
Doraemon, TOX, and Rattle Snake.
GAME 3: 20 minutes, Capture the Flag Trow
MoR traded for 5 trow, 3 souls, 3 locks, 1 dorf, 12 mauls, 27 krids. GTM traded for 4 locks,
1 dorf, 10 mauls, 27 krids, 3 souls. Both sides charged middle. GTM defended with a dorf,
mauls, and souls, but MoR defended only with mauls. It was a stalemate in the middle, warlocks
shooting at each other and hitting air. Finally GTM and MoR got into a trow battle, and GTM
managed to kill 2 MoR trow. Finally MoR's trow retreated. GTM then managed to kill one of
MoR's warlocks, ending the stalemate in the middle. GTM negotiated its Trow and finally got
MoR into a melee battle, killing half of MoR's krids and another trow. Doing the same thing
several more times, GTM did it again, finishing off the krids. MoR's trow were running toward
GTM's flag. GTM chased only with a trow and decided to move in and prepare to take MoR's flag.
MoR's Trow were killed by soulless and mauls. Bishop sent his scouting Soulless back to the
MoR flag to defend, but GTM charged with three Trow and lots of Myrkridia, stealing the flag
and winning to take a 2-1 command in the series.
GAME 4: 20 minutes, Territories Desert, No Overhead Map. MoR 6, GTM 0
Both sides got maximum bowmen and lots of puss. GTM opted for more warriors while MoR got
an extra dorf. MoR divided into 3 attack groups, one for each of the three flags on its side.
GTM divided into 2 - one in the middle and one in the south. GTM decided to let its middle
reinforce the south, while MoR's northern group had taken the north flag. Suddenly, MoR snatched
the rest of the flags! GTM had moved all but a thrall away from the south flag and MoR had sent
in a few Ghols to do the job. Thus the curse of the blind game.
GAME 5: Scavenger Hunt Badlands, 16 minutes. MoR 4, GTM 3
GTM got 12 krids, 8 herons, 2 locks, 2 souls, 6 spiders, and 4 zerks. MoR got 2 locks, 6
spiders, 3 souls, 3 zerks, 8 herons, and 12 krids. GTM quickly snatched 3 of the 4 balls, but
allowed 2 of them to be taken by MoR. A GTM spider cleverly kicked one of the balls south into
the river, but then ran it into the wall. MoR Mykridia killed the Spider and now both sides
had 3 of the 4 balls. GTM moved in to prepare to attack MoR's final ball defense. However, GTM
cautiously decided to wait a while before attacking. MoR's myrkridia by now moved west to the
location of the final ball, protected by lots of zerks and herons as well as 2 soulless on
a hill. After a very brief melee battle, the zerks and herons simply retreated and MoR grabbed
the final ball.
GAME 6: Flag Rally Empire, 14 minutes. MoR 4, GTM 3
GTM traded for 16 stygian knights, 17 thrall, 16 warriors, 4 dorfs, 2 ghols, and 16 souls.
MoR traded for 12 souls, 8 ghols with puss, 2 dorfs, 15 warriors, and 12 styges. MoR sent 2
flanks of warriors, a dorf, a few Knights, and thrall north and south and sent the rest in the
middle. MoR pushed GTM out of the middle. Meanwhile, one of GTM's forces was attacking MoR's
eastern flag in the north, but retreated thanks to the presence of a MoR dwarf and being unable
to get their soulless in close enough to kill it. However, when the force retreated it walked
right into some of MoR's center army, which had split north and south. Both of MoR's northern
armies sieged GTM's northern flag as both of MoR's southern armies sieged GTM's southern. While
doing this, MoR sent a Ghol and took GTM's unguarded starting flag. Good defense by GTM forced
MoR to back off from the sieges. GTM now decided to attack, but MoR's puss in the south
disrupted the melee. Nevertheless, GTM almost took MoR's southern flag but was once again
sandwhiched by the MoR defense already present and MoR's returning force that was being chased.
Meanwhile, the clock was winding down and GTM hurredly attacked in the north, but didn't have
enough time and had to rush poorly. GTM failed to take the flag and in the end MoR had won.
OVERVIEW: In overall player skill and tactics, GTM surpassed MoR. But in grand strategy and
contemplating the other side, MoR was able to win the series 4-2. Several times it seemed that
GTM players just weren't paying attention (losing the flag in the blind game, letting
bowmen be pussed, retreating melee force too early, etc). In most of the games, both sides
still had most of their armies left at the end, but victory or defeat was a matter of being too
late or making a major mistake. Both of these orders played with good sportsmanship and I
wish them good luck in MWC. (P.S., I apologize for taking so long to write this... Anduril
quit and he has been writing most of the reviews)
