--> Bio: The author of the Outsiders and That Was Then, This is Now grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma not very surprisingly as a tomboy. She had no female friends when she was young, and this influenced her writing and the perspectives in which she wrote from. The Outsiders was written and published by the time she was 17, beginning her career as a writer. Her second book That Was Then This is Now was written while she was in the University of Tulsa and published it in 1971, a year after her marriage to David Inhofe. Rumble Fish was published in 1975, inspired by a photograph of a boy on a motorcycle. Tex followed, which caught Disney's eye and in 1982 it was made into a movie. Then, in 1985 Paramount released That Was Then, This is Now and Fox released the Outsiders. Hinton then wrote Taming the Star Runner, and following this she took a 7 year break to take care of her son Nick. After her break she created the picture book Big David, Little David was her first book not directed at teens, and not about violence. Afterwards, she wrote The Puppy Sister based on her son's 'sibling rivalry' with their new puppy. Susan Eloise Hinton enjoys horseback riding and reading in her free time.
