Haunted by the failure to capture Osama bin Laden
in Afghanistan, Washington is putting in place plans to limit the damage
if it fails to topple the Iraqi leader swiftly.

Saddam may have been involved in this
terrorist attack. |
Solomon, John. “U.S. Had Data Hinting of
Okla. Bombing.” Sarasota Herald Tribune. February 11, 2003.
Two federal law enforcement agencies had
information before the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing suggesting that white
supremacists living nearby were considering an attack on government
buildings, but the intelligence was never passed on to federal officials
in the state, documents and interviews show.
FBI headquarters officials in Washington were so
concerned that white separatists at the Elohim City compound in Muldrow,
Okla., might lash out on April 19, 1995 - the day Timothy McVeigh did
choose - that a month earlier they questioned a reformed white supremacist
familiar with an earlier plot to bomb the same Alfred P. Murrah federal
building McVeigh selected.

PENN: IRAQ STANCE COST ME ROLE...
The disloyalty of the Hollywood types now,
during the Vietnam Era, and during the latter half of the Cold War shows
that the blacklisting was a good idea. People who are disloyal to this
country in wartime shouldn’t be able to have cultural influence.
This could indicate that anti-American
Hollywood stars may not be popular with American audiences. |
Sanderson, Bill, and Schermerhorn, Terry.
“Sean Penn: Iraq Stance Cost Me Role.” New York Post. February
12, 2003.
Bad-boy actor Sean Penn says his opposition to a
war in Iraq cost him a lucrative movie role - but the film's producer,
Steve Bing, calls the claim “extortion.”
The feud over Why Men Shouldn't Marry
erupted yesterday amid dueling lawsuits in Los Angeles.
Penn accuses Bing of “borrowing a page from the
dark era of Hollywood blacklisting” by denying him a promised role in
the movie, which Bing wrote and was supposed to direct.
But Bing - a multimillionaire who fathered a child
with Liz Hurley - says he's the object of “an extraordinary extortion
attempt by an irrational and irresponsible actor.”
Bing says Penn is trying to force him to pay $10
million, even though Penn never had a formal contract to do the movie.

Douglas insisted on having some of their wedding pictures retouched as

Former editor Martin Townsend said the
Hollywood couple wanted the exclusive pictures to reflect more class and
glamour than when David and Victoria Beckham tied the knot and posed for
OK! pictures on “his and hers” thrones.
There was widespread speculation at
the time about why Mr Douglas, now 58, appeared to look younger in the
photos.

Lerner, Michael. “The Antiwar Anti-Semites.”

SAN FRANCISCO--Imagine my surprise when I found out
that I am banned from speaking at a peace rally here this Sunday. As
editor of Tikkun, the largest-circulation liberal Jewish magazine
in the world, I have been an outspoken critic of the proposed war in Iraq.
I have also unequivocally condemned Saddam Hussein's brutality and called
for the world community to bring him to justice for crimes against
humanity. But we at Tikkun do not believe that this war--in which
thousands of Iraqi civilians are likely to die--will bring democracy to
the Middle East. Instead, it is bound to increase the threat of terrorism
to American citizens and provoke more violence. It will also fuel American
fantasies of world economic and political domination.
So why was I being blackballed over the peace
rally?
My sin was publicly criticizing the way that
A.N.S.W.E.R., one of the
four groups sponsoring the San Francisco demonstration, has used the
antiwar demonstrations to put forward anti-Israel propaganda. An
A.N.S.W.E.R. spokesperson, speaking on the Brian Lehrer show on WNYC, said
that they didn't want a “pro-Israel” speaker at their rally. |

Conservatism BY SUSAN LEE
Libertarians have more
fun--and make more sense. |
Lee, Susan. “Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll:
Libertarians have more fun--and make more sense.” OpinionJournal.com.
February 12, 2003.
Libertarianism is simplicity itself. It proceeds from a single, quite
beautiful, concept of the primacy of individual liberty that, in turn,
infuses notions of free markets, limited government and the importance of
property rights. In terms of public policy, these notions translate into
free trade, free immigration, voluntary military service and user fees
instead of taxes. Sometimes these policies are argued in a totally
unforgiving way so that it's not easy to separate the lunatics from the
libertarians. But it's a snap to separate libertarians from conservatives. |

The Seattle Syndrome
By Ronald Piana
. . . when cities become subversive.
A city opposing Federal law; this certainly
appears to be a form of secession. This also raises the question of what
kind of people would have a public monument to the evils of Communism. |
Piana,
Ronald. “The Seattle Syndrome.”
FrontPageMagazine.com. February 12, 2003.
In his
masterwork Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Edward Gibbon
wrote, “Our sympathy is cold to the relation of distant misery.” Sadly,
that does seem to be the case, at least sometimes. Consider Seattle, a
city apparently locked in a death struggle with Berkley to become the
undisputed epicenter of anti-Americanism and radical egalitarianism.
Perhaps the citizens of Seattle who have chosen to oppose enforcement of
immigration laws and the war on terrorism should have visited Ground Zero
the day after 3,000 innocent people were murdered by foreign terrorists in
an act of breathtaking evil.
…
… The so-called “peace movement” spearheaded
largely by America-haters, poisons domestic solidarity and strengthens the
resolve of our enemies. Blinded by false piety, they refuse to connect the
dots between lax immigration laws, terrorism, and the security of their
own nation.
Recently, the nine dunderheads comprising the
Seattle City Council unanimously approved an ordinance barring local
police from cooperating with federal immigration authorities ferreting out
illegal aliens. According to a flabbergasted Dan Stein, executive director
of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), “Under federal
law, no public servant can be prevented from cooperating with federal
authorities enforcing U.S. immigration laws.” |

Left-Wing Anti-Semitism on the Rise
By Adrian Humphreys
Hatred has a new home.
Germany’s National Socialist regime was not
“Right-wing;” it was a form of socialism based on nationalism that
borrowed heavily from Marx. |
Ganske, Charles.
“School's Out for Sharpton.” FrontPageMagazine.com. February 12, 2003.
The true
threat of “the new anti-Semitism” emanates not from right-wing
nationalists, but
from the Left and anti-globalization activism, a University of Toronto
conference on anti-Semitism heard yesterday.
“Before
the [Second World War],
the
Right rather than the Left was the paramount source of hatred and
contempt for European Jews,” said Todd Endelman, a professor of modern
Jewish history at the University of Michigan.
This is no
longer true. On the right, anti-Semitism no longer functions as a cultural
code or a rallying cry, while on the Left, it has become entangled with
and draws energy from ... anti-Americanism, Third Worldism and the
anti-globalization campaign," Dr. Endelman said.
The two-day
conference, called Anti-Semitism: The Politicization of Prejudice in the
Contemporary World, brings together nearly two dozen academics to probe
the roots and scope of anti-Jewish bias and hatred.
Yesterday,
scholars defined the differences between the old anti-Semitism that was
embodied in Nazi Germany and the often more subtle manifestations seen
today.
Anti-Semitism is again on the rise, said Dr. Endelman.
“There is
more hostility to Jews in Western Europe now than there was a decade or
two earlier.... Alongside the taunts of hooligans and the ravings of
skinheads, expressions of overt hostility have sprouted in the liberal
media.” |

School's Out for Sharpton
By Charles Ganske
A Texas school declares a
Hate-Whitey Holiday.
More>So much for our schools teaching
patriotism. What kind of people would require children to listen to the
rants of a notorious anti-Semite?
A rational country would withdraw the school
district’s Federal funding. |
Ganske, Charles. “School's Out for Sharpton.”
FrontPageMagazine.com. February 12, 2003. On
Thursday, February 13 at 1:30, students at Miller High School in Corpus
Christi, TX will have the privilege of missing an hour of class in order
to be subjected to an anti-war harangue by Democratic presidential
candidate Al Sharpton.
Linda Brown, the Texas spokesperson for Sharpton’s
National Action Network, said that all of the high school's students from
grades 9-12 will be required to attend the assembly. She said Sharpton
will discuss “issues germane to youth and his position on the war in
Iraq.”
Sharpton will lead an anti-war rally in Corpus
Christi at a location Brown said had not been determined. Brown noted that
Sharpton chose to visit Corpus Christi, a Texas city on the Gulf of Mexico
with a population of 300,000, because “there is a factory there that
builds artillery or tanks.” Corpus Christi is also home for flyers from
the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force training at the nearby naval air
station. Some of these pilots’ children may be sitting in Sharpton's
captive audience.
Edward Blum,
Director of Legal Affairs for the American
Civil Rights Institute, stated, “It is outrageous that high school
students will be pulled out of class and made a captive audience to the
anti-war ravings of Al Sharpton. It is inappropriate for any public high
school to suspend classes and hold an assembly promoting any presidential
candidate, but it is especially galling that they would do so for Sharpton
to deliver an anti-war, anti-Bush diatribe, with no one there to provide a
rebuttal. If public schools are going to interrupt classes for a
discussion of current events topics such as the war, at least both sides
of the debate should be represented.”
Blum also
argued, “Al Sharpton is one of the most incendiary and divisive figures in
American politics today. Given his
long
record of anti-Semitism and race-baiting, it is almost a hate crime to
force impressionable students to be subjected to him. This school is
turning the National Action Network into the National Indoctrination
Network. Jesus Chavez, the superintendent of the Corpus Christi School
District, ought to order Miller High School to cancel the assembly for
Sharpton.” |

Hanoi Chomsky
A good Cold War recap
More on the crimes of Communism
|
Starr, Tim. “Hanoi Chomsky II.”
FrontPageMagazine.com. February 12, 2003.
It seems that the report of
Noam Chomsky's cheerleading speech for the Viet Cong in this blog
provoked
some discussion
amongst left-anarchists.
…
As for the USA being more imperialist, the Viet
Cong were trying to overthrow the governments of South Vietnam, Laos, and
Cambodia, so they could set up puppet regimes in all of those countries in
an Indochina Federation along the lines Ho Chi Minh got from Stalin (who
had similar plans for the Balkans which Tito thankfully didn't go along
with), his old boss when Ho was a Comintern agent. The Viet Cong did this
with the help of China, which intervened directly in Tibet and North
Korea, repeatedly threatened Taiwan, and supported guerillas all over the
Third World, and the Soviet Union, which invaded & occupied Eastern Europe
at the end of WWII then puppetized all those countries and never withdrew
the Red Army until 1989. In contrast, the USA tried to save South Vietnam,
Laos, and Cambodia from North Vietnamese imperialism, as it had saved
South Korea and Taiwan from North Korean and Chinese imperialism, and as
it had saved Western Europe from the Nazis and Japan from the Militarists.
As for the 3
million deaths attributed to the USA, about 2 million of those were
murders committed by the Khmer Rouge, which was created and helped into
power by the Viet Cong, and supported by China, North Vietnam, and the
Soviet Union until 1979, when North Vietnam invaded because Pol Pot was
insufficiently obedient to Hanoi and the Soviet Union followed suit. The
rest wouldn't have happened if the Viet Cong hadn't committed aggression
against 3 out of 4 of its neighbors. Even if we accept all 3 million as
being the responsibility of the U.S. for the sake of argument, that number
is literally dwarfed by the number of those mass-murdered by North
Vietnam, China, and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union mass-murdered about
20 million in the collectivization of agriculture and the Gulag, according
to the Black Book of Communism, while Maoist China mass-murdered
about 60 million in the Chinese Civil War, Great Leap Famine, and the
Cultural Revolution. That makes for a total of 80 million, without even
including North Vietnam - more than 20 times the number attributed to the
US even if we include the Khmer Rouge's democide count, 80 times the
number resulting from subtraction of the Khmer Rouge's democide. As for
the Viet Cong, they started murdering their political opponents, actual
and potential, starting in 1945, after that great "anti-imperialist" was
put into power in North Vietnam by the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
They collectivized agriculture in North Vietnam during the late 1950s,
following Chinese advice, killing an estimated 100,000 of their own people
in the process. About 900,000 of their own people chose to flee to South
Vietnam during that same time period. When the Viet Cong captured the city
of Hue during the Tet Offensive of 1968, they murdered about 3,000 people,
marching them out of town, forcing them to dig their own graves, binding
their hands behind their backs with wire, kneeling them in front of their
graves, then shooting them in the back of the head for such crimes as
being street vendors who sold hand-made jewelry. When the final invasion
came, the South Vietnamese people didn't welcome the Viet Cong as
liberators, they fled from them as if they were flesh-eating zombies,
fleeing the country in anything that could float by the hundreds of
thousands. Those who made it were the lucky ones, those who were left
behind to starve after the collectivization of South Vietnamese
agriculture by the Viet Cong were the worst victims. |

Iraqi Women Brutalized by Saddam
By Wendy McElroy
. . .and not a word of protest
from our politically correct feminists.
The answer here is that radical feminists
don’t care about the fate of politically incorrect women. |
McElroy, Wendy. “Iraqi Women Brutalized by
Saddam.” FrontPageMagazine.com. February 12, 2003.
Before and after Sept. 11,
politically correct feminists crusaded for Afghan women oppressed by the
Taliban. By contrast, little outrage has been expressed over the treatment
of Iraqi women under Saddam Hussein.
The silence
may be currently appropriate -- feminist goals should play no role in
forming foreign policy. But the contrast between the two reactions is
puzzling, especially in the face of horror stories coming out of Iraq.
Amnesty
International has documented the
brutal executions of Iraqi women accused of prostitution. For example,
Najat Mohammad Haydar, an obstetrician in Baghdad, was beheaded in October
2000 after criticizing corruption within local health services. According
to
another report, in October 2000 “a group of men led by Saddam
Hussein’s son Uday, beheaded with knives 50 young women in Baghdad. The
heads of these women were hung on the doors of their houses for a few
days.”
The
Iraq
Foundation joins Amnesty International in chronicling human rights
violations, such as the methods of torture in prison, which include rape
and “bringing in a female relative, especially the wife or the mother, and
raping her in front of the detainee.”
Why then does
the
Feminist Majority
site have a “Help Afghan Women” button but no “Help Iraqi Women?” Why does
an
Oct. 10, 2002 press release
from NOW warn, “A U.S. invasion of Iraq will likely entail ... dangers to
the safety and rights of Iraqi women who currently enjoy more rights and
freedoms than women in other Gulf nations, such as Saudi Arabia.” |

Forget Drugs, Oil, and SUVs: Evil
is Nourished by Student Fees
By Vic Spooner
The campus left continues to
exonerate the brutal crimes of the Black Panthers.
The Black Panthers were a form of organized
crime family. This brings to mind Ogden Nash, “When called by a panther
don’t anther.”
|
Spooner, Vic. “Forget Drugs, Oil, and SUVs:
Evil is Nourished by Student Fees.” FrontPageMagazine.com. February 12,
2003. In case
you were unaware, the original Black Panther Party (BPP) was founded in
1966 by two street thugs named Bobby Seale and Huey Newton. Newton was
actually a quite shrewd manipulator: he concocted political justifications
for his on-going criminal activities (i.e., drug dealing, pimping, and
extortion) by disingenuously touting himself as a revolutionary engaged in
civil disobedience; he garnered liberal sympathy by promoting the BPP as
an oppressed vanguard at war with the existing American power structure;
and his bogus claims of BPP adherence to Marxist-Maoist strictures
garnered him tremendous financial/legal support from affluent supporters
of radical causes. For Huey, “revolution” and Marxism were damn good
hustles.
The
overwhelming majority of Newton's many crimes were committed against poor
blacks, and most of his financial support came from rich, misguided
whites. The bulk of donated money went not to worthy BPP causes, but up
Newton's own nose (in the form of cocaine), and toward endless bail
postings for BPP muscle. Obedience to Newton’s will was enforced by
beatings (of black men, by black men) with bullwhips and chains. Chairman
Bobby Seale, and leaders like Ericka Huggins, openly advocated torture and
murder of turncoats. For Alex Rackley, party member and suspected police
informant, death was deliverance from unimaginable agony: BPP thugs
inaugurated several days of torture by pouring boiling water over his
bared chest.
In addition
to regularly beating young Elaine Brown, Newton groomed her to be one of
his closest lieutenants. After Newton killed a prostitute (by shooting her
in the face), other local pimps put a bounty on his head. Subsequently,
circa 1973, he fled to Havana to avoid both assassination by his peers and
prosecution by legal authorities. Elaine, based in California, stayed in
daily phone contact with Newton. In addition to coordinating activities in
Newton's absence, she is suspected of having relayed Newton's order to
have BPP accountant, Betty Van Patter, kidnapped, raped, and murdered.
(Newton later claimed that “Elaine killed Betty”: read David Horowitz's
book, Radical Son.) |

This is what you get when foreigners are

As part of its massive PR offensive, the House of
Saud is trying to convince the world that its treatment of women is
improving. But a first-hand witness would see a far different reality:
women who are literally locked inside homes, paid little or nothing as
domestic servants, worked up to 20 hours per day, and verbally and
physically abused. This sad state of affairs exists not just in Saudi
Arabia, but in Saudi homes right here in the United States. But there are
people who know all about it, and even allow the practice to continue
unabated on American soil: the U.S. State Department. |

Sowell, Thomas. “Big
business and quotas.” Jewish World Review. February 12, 2003.
The malign effect of corporate fascism—our
Fourteenth Amendment rights are abridged for corporate convenience. |
Although he was the patron saint of capitalism,
Smith was no fan of capitalists. Any policy advocated by businessmen, he
said, “ought never to be adopted till after having been long and carefully
examined, not only with the most scrupulous, but with the most suspicious
attention.”
…
While businesses will use the rhetoric of the free
market when it suits their purpose, they will dump it in a minute when it
does not. Against this background, it is not surprising that big business
is filing briefs in favor of affirmative action in the University of
Michigan case that the Supreme Court will be hearing this spring.
Big business has long been in favor of racial
quotas. When an effort was begun back in the 1980s, within the Reagan
administration, to get rid of affirmative action, the influence of
corporate America helped squelch this effort.
Why does big business want racial quotas? Because
it is in their own self-interest.
If a corporation does not have enough minority
employees to satisfy government agencies, that can lead to racial
discrimination lawsuits. But if they hire by quotas and quotas are
outlawed, they can be sued by whites for reverse discrimination. Keeping
affirmative action legal solves their problem.
…
If there is anything more ridiculous than endlessly
repeating the magic word “diversity,” it is trying to come up with
plausible arguments in favor of the racial quotas that this euphemism
really means. |
