Spinning Tackle
As far as tackle goes for spinning, any spinning rod/reel setup will do although with a chance of a large fish we recommend a rod of about 2lbs test curve coupled with a reel carrying plenty of low diameter 10lb breaking strain line.choice of spinners/plugs is personal,we tend to go for easily bought spinners and find silver to be a good all-round catcher.Wire traces must be used at all times ,available where you buy your spinners.
Static Piking
So you now have a hotspot to fish, this is where static fishing with deadbaits comes into it's own.Luckily for pikers, sea fish are readily available in supermarkets and easily make the best deadbaits for pike on the levels.
Static piking requires different tackle than spinning as the chance of catching pike of all sizes, including the biggest, increases.
Standard heavy carp tackle will do for small baits but when fishing with large sea baits like whole herring,a rod of about 3lb test is the correct weapon. We use large Shimano Baitrunner reels for all our pike fishing loaded with Berkeley "big game" line in 15lb breaking strain.
The other thing about static fishing is that you are at the mercy of the elements. This means you should be fully aware of any impending weather and should be suitably dressed.A camp can be made centrally to your rod/rods with umbrellas used as wind-breaks.
