More Then That

“Nick, are you okay?” Brian asked.

“Yeah! Does something look wrong?” Nick lied trying to hide his true feelings.

“Well, besides the few tears in your eyes, no.” Brian exclaimed yanking Nick into a nearby room. “Now spill.”

“Me and Anne are arguing.”

“Dang it, Nick! When are you ever going to learn?”

“She started it!” Nick defended.

“Did you keep it going?” Brian prodded to know.

“Well, yeah. What’s that matter?”

“A lot! Listen Nick! You two are getting married. At this rate your marriage won’t last very long. Grant it, Anne is young, but she has a very good head on her shoulders. You need to learn to give in at times, even when you know you’re right. Don’t yell at her! That will never solve anything, only makes it worse.” Brian lectured.

“Then what am I supposed to do with so many don’ts?”

“Sit and rationally talk it out.”

“But that didn’t work out last time!” Nick whined. He was completely overwhelmed with all Brian had just thrown at him.

“Was there any yelling?”

“Yeah.” Nick meekly replied.

“Don’t worry. Things will work out soon. At least I hope so, for both your sakes.”

Soon, both men came out of the side room to join in with the ret of the crew.

“Huh?” Melissa asked stunned.

“That he’s not always going to be there. I think he will, but when the end comes, I’ll check and he won’t be!”

“Anne! Don’t even say that! You know he’s going to be there with you till the end.” Melissa firmly told me.

Somehow her words reassured me. I was probably just over reacting. MY heart does especially when I’m stressed.

***

“Logan! You have to come!” I screamed for about the tenth time to Melissa’s stubborn boyfriend.

“Why do you think I want to go to a bunch of gay guy’s concert?” He protested. That had been his response every single time. Frankly I was getting sick of it!

The plan had been, I’d go by myself, but since me and Nick were arguing I didn’t know how things would go. Melissa said she would come for support. I insisted she bring Logan with her incase things worked out so she wouldn’t feel like the third wheel.

“Logan, I’m begging! Just this oncest!”

“Oncest? Who came up with that?” He questioned amazed.

I looked over at him. “Just shut up. You are coming and that’s final.”

“And how are you going to get the tickets?”

“You insult me! I am Nick Carter’s girlfriend. How do you think?”

“Fine! I’ll go. But don’t expect me to have any fun. You owe me big time for this.” He hollered as I choked him was a huge hug.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

He smiled at my excitement and soon walked off to find his girlfriend. I don’t know how I convinced him without Melissa’s help. He normally won’t do anything I ask. I guess this one time was different.

At the thought of Nick, my heart ached. I didn’t know if he’d be ready to talk. Sure we’ve had short phone conversations just to check on the other, but they weren’t they same. They all seemed distant. Neither of us would get over our foolish pride just to say sorry.

***

I pulled up to the backstage door, hours before the concert. I even get out of school early so I could have time to see all of the guys. “Well, he goes nothing!” I grumbled pulling myself out of the car. Melissa and Logan silently followed suit.

“So, when will we see Nick?” Melissa asked as we walked through the hallways towards the stage. Her and Logan were holding hands and it only made me long for Nick even more.

“Um.. he should be on the stage rehearsing when we get there!”

“Great! I finally get to meet all the gay guys.” Logan muttered loud enough for me to hear.

“Logan! Get it straight! They aren’t gay or I wouldn’t be eng….dating one of them.” I quickly corrected in hopes they hadn’t noticed my blunder.

“Okay, okay! Don’t have a hissy fit.”

“Cut some slack on her Logan. The poor girl is stress out.” Melissa sharply reprimanded her guilty boyfriend.

“Let me go up there first. Just wait back here.” I asked then continued towards the stage. All five guys were dancing and lost in their own worlds. I stood for a moment watching them all, mainly Nick. I couldn’t help it, that just seemed to be where my eyes always landed.

“Anne!” Brian shouted jumping off the stage. I laughed as ran full speed towards me. I could tell he was really hyper.

“Hey, B! How’s it going? Where’s Leigh?”

“She’s in the back! She’ll be glad you’re here.” Brian replied wrapping me in a tight hug. He then whispered in my ear. “I’m surprised you still came since you and Nick are fighting.”

I sighed at that comment. “I had to B. I just had to! We have to solve this soon. I don’t know how long I can take it.” Soon Brian cracked a joke to lighten the mood and had me almost breathless from laughing.

***

Nick watched as Brian talked with his Anne. He was making her laugh and she was having a good time without him!! Was she still mad and ignoring him? Or did she just not care about him at all?

Nick continued to watch for a minute longer, unsure of how to approach her. It still puzzled him how nervous he got, maybe it was because he was scared of possibly loosing her again. That was the last thing in the world he wanted.

“I can’t believe you!” I laughed shoving Brian in the shoulder. “That is awful!”

Nick cleared his throat, took a deep breath and made his way towards the love of his life.

I watched cautiously as Nick weighed the situation is his mind. My reactions couldn’t help but to let out a small sigh of relief as he started to walk towards me.

“Anne! Anne….have you…..” Brian called trying to catch my attention. But he couldn’t. My eyes were locked to Nick’s as if we were starring each other down. I didn’t move as Nick continued to walk up to me. I didn’t notice as Brian left and herded everyone as far away as possible. He had no clue what to expect from either of us.

“Hey,” I breathed looking up at Nick’s gorgeous eyes. “Long time, no real talk.”

A smile crossed his lips as a tiny laugh escaped. It all soon faded. “Listen, I’m really sorry for blowing up at you.”

“Don’t talk all the blame! I helped get you mad! I’m just as guilty.” I corrected.

“But still, I shouldn’t have! It wasn’t the right thing for me to do. I would have never realized how important your pageant was. I’m really so sorry!” Nick continued to whine. He grabbed my fingers and leaned down resting his forehead against mine.

“I shouldn’t have been so demanding. I’ve tolerated your job all these months and why couldn’t I have one more time.”

“Because you had something really important. You just wanted to share it with me!” Nick explained to me, my answer I couldn’t seem to say myself.

“Thank you Nick.” I sighed looking into his eyes. They seemed to be more at ease then when I arrived.

“No, that you.” Nick smiled gathering me in his arms. “For putting up with me and my temper.” Firmly he kissed me to try and make up for out lost time together. But to me, there was no need to make up for it! It was a time for our relationship to mature, learn a few new things about each other. There was nothing better than becoming closer and learning more about the one I love.

Slowly Nick pulled away as a smile spread across his face. This time it stayed. Soon he leaned down and kissed me again, a long passionate kiss.

“Nick! Oh my gosh!” Young teenage girls screamed at the site of my boyfriend. At times I wanted to laugh. What made him so special?

The girls ran up to him. Nick quickly pulled away from our kiss. He was Aggravated we had been interrupted from out private moment together.

“Yo Nick! The fans are here!” Brian called coming in to join the growing group.

“Thanks for the warning!” Nick growled while at the same time pasting a smile on his face. I walked away towards the edge of the group. This was not my place to be. As I walked towards Melissa and Logan, AJ came running in completely out of breath.

“Nick, man! The fans are here!” He exclaimed stopping dead in his tracks when he realized he was just little late.

“Ya think bone” Nick mocked. I almost died laughing as they continued to argue.

***

“Okay, five minutes till the show starts!” Backstage crew yelled.

I noticed as all the guys pulled their girlfriend close. Soon, I felt Nick’s arms holding me.

“Can I have a good luck kiss before I go?” Nick questioned expectantly.

“I guess I could spare ya one.” I teased leaning in and letting Nick deepen the kiss.

“Let’s go, Nick!” Brian called as he started to walk away. Nick didn’t budge. “Nick, now!” Brian yelled prying Nick away from me. I smile shyly as Brian gave me a dirty look.

“AJ’s girl is hot!” Logan told me once all the guys were gone and were on our way to our seats.

“Logan! You shouldn’t be looking at other girls!” I reprimanded.

“Logan! I can’t believe you!” Melissa cried popping him hard on the arm.

“So do you really think them gay now? You just saw all of them all over their girlfriends. How much more do you need to see?” I pointed out waiting for my friend to admit he had been wrong.

“Well, just shut up!” Logan snapped.

I laughed as he turned to talk to his girlfriend.

***

“So when is you guys wedding?” Leighanne asked that night. We were all spending the night and hers and Brian’s house. Then it was back on the road for all of us.

“Not till after my graduation, that’s for sure! That is gonna be a lot of stuff to plan! Man!” I sighed already overwhelmed. Nick slipped a comforting arm around my waist.

“When is your graduation? I gotta come!” Amanda exclaimed.

“None of you guys can come! It would be total chaos!” I stated. Yet I was hoping they would talk me out of my decision.

“Anne! We are coming! Come on! You only graduate from high school once in a lifetime. Plus I want to see what they’re like!” Nick whined.

“No!”

“We are coming!” Brian joined.

“I can’t believe you guys.”

“Well, believe us. We aren’t joking. You practically have no choice in the matter.” Nick finished as if he had ended the whole discussion.

“Fine. It something bad happens, don’t look at me. All I’ll say is that I told you so.”

“No you wouldn’t.” Nick contradicted kissing me.

“Eww!”

“Gross!”

“Stop it!”

“How cute!”

“Get a room!”

And many other reactions echoed through the room till Nick and I broke apart.
