Chapter Two

Ring. . . Ring. . . Ring. .. Ring.. .

"Hello," high pitched snobby girl's voice answered.

"Hi, Ashley?" Nick said.

"Yea?" she smiled evilly.

"How are you?"

"I'm doing great. I was just about to walk out the door to tennis match."

"Oh."

"But, I can talk to you for a few minutes, if you want me to."

"Sure, "he smiled.

"Alright."

"Your tennis team doing well?"

"We've only lost 2 of the matches we've played so far." she said not mentioning that they had only played 2.

"That's good."

"Yea. Are you going to be at home for long?

"About another month."

"I see."

"Did you want to do something sometime?"

"I have a busy schedule..."

"If you didn't have time for me then why did you give me your phone number?" He asked annoyed.

"You asked, " she slyly said.

"No, I didn't, " Nick said exsasperatedly. "you offered it"

"Giving you my phone number doesn't mean were going out. I give lots of guys my phone number."

"I KNOW it doesn't. I didn't me for it to. I would just think that if you gave me your phone number you would have time to see me once in while, but I guess I was wrong. I'll let you go on to your tennis match."

"I can make time." she said pathetically. "Call me back. . . "

"BYE."

"Bye."

Nick sighed, mad. "You would think if she gave me her phone number, " he muttered as Aaron walked into the living room where he had been talking on the phone.

"Nick, Bro. you in here talking to yourself?" Aaron asked.

"No, " Nick replied sarcastically. "I was talking to the carpet."

"About phone numbers?" Aaron asked.

"Yea. That's where I write them down at."

"I thought you wrote them on your hand you have so few, or was that an address?"

"That was an address."

"What prostitute have you been visiting?"

"I'm not telling you! I don't want my little brother going to visit a prostitute."

"I'm 13!"

"My point exactly. For your information it was not the address of a prostitute. I was the address of a girl I accidentally called and then promised autographs to"

"Is it why you wanted mine?" Aaron asked flopping down in a chair.

"No, " Nick replied sarcastically.." I just wanted it for myself. Yea. What did you think it was for?"

"I didn't think about it. But i didn't guess right that it was for your next prospect."

"She is not my next prospect. She's yours."

"What?" Aaron asked sitting up suddenly his chair.

"I'm just joking. She's 12."

"Oh, " Aaron relaxed.

"The girl the autographs are for that is. The girl I as talking to is her older step-sister."

"So she is your next prospect."

"For all I know she could be 14!"

"How old did she sound?"

"18"

"Okay then."

"But you can't tell. . . "

"Call her."

"Leave. This is my house. I want my privacy."

"Yes, sir." Aaron saluted and left.

Nick picked up the phone looked at the number then dialed.

"Hello?" a man answered.

"Hello, may I speak to Ashley?"

"Yes." Then he shouted "Lee. Phone!!"

Ashley ran to the phone and said "Hello."

"Hi. It's Nick."

"Oh," she shyly smiled. "Hey, what's going on?"

"I. . I. . . lost your address. Can you give it to me again?"

"Sure." Ashley smiled. "But don't lose it again."

"Yes, ma-am."

She gave it to him then asked: "How's the other Ashley Smith?"

"How's ballet?" He asked purposefully avoiding the question."

She laughed. "It's doing great. Today my toes only bled a little."

"Toes... bled?" He questioned confused.

"Yea. Our toes bled...from the point shoe."

"Ow."

"Yea. It's really gross."

"I wanna see."

"You don't want to see my bloody toes!"" Ashley exclaimed.

"No, but I want to see you. May I? Sometime?

"Sometime."

"You have time for me?"

"Yea, sure."

"Can we do it soon, like tomorrow or something?"

"Um. . "

"If tomorrow's not a good day. . . "

"It's not that," she stammered.

"You have a boyfriend. I knew it was too good to be true."

"No. . ."

"You don't?"

"No. I wouldn't have given you my phone number without telling you that."

"you wouldn't?'

"No.

"Then what's the problem?"

"I just would feel more certain that you really are who you say you are when we get the autographs."

"Alright. I guess. . I . Understand. . "

"Thanks."

"I'll put them in the mail as seen as we get off the phone."

"Okay."

"I'd better let you go. . . "

"You don't have to. . ."

"Well. . . I think i should. . ."

"Okay. . ."

"Bye. . . "

"Bye," Ashley sighed sadly. "Lee, you idiot. you're suppost to trust nice guys."

Nick sighed. "gosh!!" He exclaimed looking at the clock. "I told Brian I'd call him today a tell him how the Ashley Smith's are going." He picked up the phone up again but didn't dial.

"Having trouble deciding which girl to call?' Aaron asked. "Or are there none that would go with you?"

"ha, ha." Nick smile sarcastically. "i was about to call Brian for your information."

"Oh. Sure. I believe you." He said sarcastically as he wandered into the kitchen.

Nick finally dialed Brian's number. "Brian, hey!

"Hey Nick!" Brian exclaimed into the phone. "So how's it going?"

"Pretty bad, " Nick sighed.

"Well, how's the first Ashley Smith? The one you meat at the meet and greet."

"She's too busy for me. She also seems a little snobby."

"Is she a prospect?"

"Not really anymore, but I don't know how to let her down. If I didn't have our reputation to hurt I wouldn't care, but as it is. . .”

"Call her a few more times, but don't propose doing anything together again."

"What if she asks me to do something?" Nick asked.

"Tell her you're busy. Okay, what about the OTHER Ashley Smith?'

"I want to meet her so bad, but she doesn't believe who I am."

“She doesn't believe who you are?' Brian gasped.

"Not REALLY." She sorta does, but not well enough to see me I guess. . . "

"AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

"What is it?" Ashley exclaimed running out into the living room.

Brittney was holding a picture in her hand jumping up and down. "AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!" She kept jumping up and down, up and down. She began gasping for breath. "Lee!! You didn’t tell me you were getting Aaron's autograph too!! Oh!! I love you you're the BEST step-sister ever." She ran over to were Lee was standing and hugged her so hard she almost fell down. "You're the best!" She squealed. "Aaron Carter! Aaron Cater!" She stated jumpig up and down again and running all over the room.

"What about the BSB picture?' Lee asked.

"OH, it's there. I'll love it always too, but not as much as this one. Aaron Carter!!" Brittney shrieked.

"May I,"Lee asked timidly, "May I see the BSB picture?"

Brittney handed it to her and continued to jump around and scream "AARON CARTER!!"

Ring.

Britney lunged for the phone. "Hello!" She exclaimed.

"Hello," Nick said timidly. "You're certainly happy arn't you?"

"I got a signed picture of Aaron Carter!!' She squealed. then she composed herself and said "Yes."

"Are you happy about that picture then?"

"EXTREMELY"

"What about the BSB one?" Nick laughed.

"Oh it was nice too. That was what Lee asked." Brittney replied in a very carefree manner.

"She did?" Nick questioned raising his eyebrows. Did she want to have it?"

"She wanted to see it."

"She did?"

"Yep!"

"Brittney!" Ashley exclaimed. "Who are you talking to?"

"I don't know," she shrugged. "Who am I talking to?"

"Nick Carter." He replied smoothly.

Brittney was silent for a moment then she whispered

"Nick Carter?"

"You're talking to Nick?" Ashley demanded. "Give me that phone."

"NO!" Brittney exclaimed. "I want to talk to him."

"Give me the phone!" Lee reach for the phone.

Brittney pulled it out of her reach. "I want to talk to him."

"You've been talking to him. Now give me the phone."

NIick was laughing quite hard.

"NO!" Brittney stubbornly refused.

"If you don't give me that phone I'll never give you this picture back." Ashley threatened.

"Yes, you will," Brittney laughed.

"No. I'll tear it up into a million little pieces" Lee said.

"You'll keep it hidden in your room so you can look at it all the time. I know you will"

"Give me that phone," Lee said through her teth.

"If you give her the phone," Nick soothed laughing, "You can meet Aaron."

Brittney promptly gave up the phone.

"What?" Lee asked. "What happened?"

"I told her she could meet Aaron if she gave you the phone." Nick laughed.

"I don't think it's funny! Stop laughing."

"Oh. I find it quite funny!" Nick said trying to stop laughing but not succeeding

"Nick, it's not funny!"

"Yes it is."

She thought about it for a moment then sighed "I suppose it is a little funny, but you didn't HAVE to tell her that!"

"Now you HAVE to see me, unless you want to disappoint your little step-sister."

“I guess so. when?"

"Well, today's Wednesday. How about Friday or Saturday." "You will?"

"Yea. What are we going to do?"

"Let's go down to the beach."

"I love the beach," Ashley sighed.

"So do I," Nick replied.

"Alright, then,"

"I'll pick you up?"

"Us."

"Yea. You girls."

"Okay. Will you have Aaron with you then?"

"Do I want to deal with that then?'

"I don't know. . ." She hesitated. "We could drive and meet you wherever."

"I live on the beach you know."

"You do? Wow!'

"Yea. so I was thinking on just going down there. . . Would you rather just drive yourself here?"

"It might be simpler. . ." Lee sighed.

I will spare you the details of when Ashley told Brittney. I will just say that Brittney was very, VERY happy.
