The Call

"Lee! Britney exclaimed as she stood impatiently in the kitchen. "Hurry, or we're going to be late."

"Sorry," Lee said running out of her room, hurriedly getting all of her stuff together. "I was kinda tiard this morning so I slept late."

"Who were you talking on the phone to so late?" Britney asked as they walked out to get in the car.

"Who do you think?"

"I don't know. Maybe Josh, or Matthew, or James, oh--Hey! Maybe it was Nick!'

"Exactly," Ashley rolled her eyes as she cranked the car.

"So he apologized?'

"Are you set on being nosey?'

"Yes."

"Okay. Yes, it was Nick," Ashley explained, "and yes he did apologize very grandly. He told me how sorry he was and that it actually was very funny."

"You didn't talk about that for 4 hour," Britney stated.

"No," Lee sighed,"we didn't. We talked about other stuff too. You probably wouldn't be interested."

"Okay."

"You have play practice this afternoon don't you?'

"Yea," Britney sighed,"til 5. The play is coming up soon. We're working hard."

"Do you have all your lines memorized?"

"Yes! the star must be perfect before anybody else can. Or at least that's what everybody keeps telling me."

"Get a life kid!" Ashley laughed as Brittney got out of the car.

Ashley Smith drove to school that day with a purpose..Friday, Lee Smith had totally dissed her outfit. Now that thing was cool. It's not like Lee looked any better than she did. She got out of the car in the parking lot and saw one of her good friends. Well, really she hated her because she was mean, but she was friends with her because she was very popular and it would help her reputation to be friends with her.

"Sarah!" She called out to her. "You'll never guess what I saw!"

"What?" Sarah giggled as they walked towards the school together.

"I saw. . ." she looked around to see if anybody was listening then continued.

"Ashley, you kissed a girl?" Nancy questioned as Ashley sat down at the lunch table.

"No!" Lee exclaimed. "Where did you get that idea?'

"I heard that you made out with another girl," someone else said a little timidly.

"I just heard you were a lesbian," another girl said.

"When did this start?" Lee asked bewildered.

"I think today, Nancy replied.

"Who started it?' Lee interrogated.

"I heard that Ashley Smith saw you kiss some girl at a party." One of the girls replied. "Ashley Smith!" Ashley exclaimed. "That explains it."

A really cute popular guy walked by. "Lee, you've been kissing girls. That's just gross." he said.

Lee just rolled her eyes. "When am I gonna see her next?" she sighed. "This afternoon, I suppose."

"Are you gonna yell at her and tell her a bunch of mean things?' One girl who didn't know Lee very well asked.

"No," Lee sighed. "I"m just gonna tell her. . . "

"I really wish you'd stop lying about me, Ashley Smith," Lee said forcefully as she confronted her enemy in the parking lo after school.

"I'm not lying," Ashley Smith tried to deny. "I don't know why you don't just go a head and admit it."

A group was gathered around them as they argued. "You know just as well as I do that I did not kiss a girl."

"You were drunk!' Ashley exclaimed trying to cover up her blunder.

"I don't drink. Has anybody here ever seen me drink?' Lee asked the crowd.

A chorus of "NO"s" came from them.

"Then I wasn't drunk. Stop lying, Ashley. Nobody here believes you."

"Yes they do. Some people believe me."

"What evidence do you have Ashley?"

"My word."

"Where did you see it?"

Ashley's mind raced. She had to come out on top somehow.

"Were did you see it Ashley?'

"I saw it in the bathroom.;"

"In the bathroom?"

"At school."

"Yea, right."

"I"ll get you back for this Ashley Smith," Ashley Smith yelled as she ran to her car. "I"ll get you back."

"I thought THIS was getting me back."

"I'll get you back again! I'll keep on getting you back for the same things because you never get me back." She yelled as she cranked her car.

"I have gotten you back. You'll figure out how eventually." Lee yelled as Ashley Smith drove off.

"How can that girl beat me EVERY time? She mumbled to herself. "I've got her beat in with my guy. SHE could never get a guy like Nick Carter."

Ring. . . Ring. . . ring. . .

"Hello?'

"Hey," Nick said.

"Oh. Hey!" Ashley said.

"How was your day?' He asked.

"Oh. It was okay," she replied nonchalantly siting down. "I got in a huge fight today at school. Well, it was an argument."

"What was it over?"

"A rumor."

"Was she a friend?'

"We don' get along at all! It's really funny because her name is Ashley Smith too. Even though we have the same name we are very different. She like has no guy sense, is not very concerned about how she looks and in general not very bright."

Nick started coughing.

"Are you okay?""she asked concerned.

"Yea. I"m fine."

"Okay well, she like blew up at me after school."

"Did she start the rumor?' Nick asked plotting to get Lee's side of the story later.

"I told one of my friends what I saw, but it was totally true."

"What'd she say to you this afternoon?"

"She just like told me to stop lying about her and stuff. I told her I would get her back again and again since she's too nice to get back at me. Then she's said she already had and eventually I'd figure out how. I don't really know what she meant, but. . ."

"How long do you think it will take Ashley Smith to realize how you're gotten her back?" Nick asked Lee later that night while thy were talking about the whole scene.

"How do you know about that?" Lee asked bewildered. "You've been talking to her haven't you?'

"It's to be nice."

"Maybe I haven't gotten her back then. You probably spend Friday nights with her then Saturdays with me.'

"No. I don't."

"How much do you talk to her?"

"Not very much. Look, Lee, the only reason I call her ever once in a while is because I'm a Back Street Boy. It would look really bad if I stopped calling her then the press found out."

"Yea. I suppose it would."

"Then, do I have your permission to call her?' he asked nicely.

"If you do a few things for me."

"What?

"Tell me everything she says about me and never see her on purpose again."

"Alright. I think I can do that. Do you think I'll be that over come by her sexy sluttyness?'

"If you're that easily swayed, you wouldn't make a very good boyfriend."

"Well, don't worry. I'm not."
