“Melissa! Melissa! Did you see him! Oh my gosh those eyes! I’ve never seen any like them.” Katie sighed as her and her friend waited in the short line for the Batman roller coast. It had been a full day at Six Flags. But it was no way near over yet!
“Where I don’t see!” Melissa pouted looking everywhere.
“The one right there! Kind of up on the railing. Quick look away he’s looking at me!” Katie cried trying her hardest to seem calm. She glanced over at him again. He smiled shyly at her, a welcoming smile so she continued to look.
He had light brown hair with blue eyes to die for! Not too much height, but he looked barely taller than herself. A shimmering light seemed illuminate from his eyes. Never had she been so entranced by someone’s eyes, he had her reeling with their charm. He dressed simple, blue jeans with a green short sleeved shirt. Of course tennis shoes for a day at Six Flags.
“Move up! The line is moving.” Melissa hissed into Katie’s ear, rudely interrupting Katie from her trance. Slightly Katie blushed as the guy smiled at her embarrassment.
“Oh my gosh. He is absolutely gorgeous! I’ve never seen anyone like him. Why can’t I ever get guys like that, or why can’t there ever be any at home that look as good as him.” Katie wished quietly to her impatient friend.
“Man, this line needs to hurry up! Which guy are you exclaiming about!?”
“The one up there!” Katie once again pointed out. He was still starring hard at her. Now he was up on the rocks at the base of the wall. As he leaned back against the wall, he banged his head on the fire alarm. Katie couldn’t help but to laugh quietly. It was now his turn to blush in embarrassment.
“Oh him. He is cute. Ya know he’s looking right at you.”
“Naw, duh! That’s why we’ve been starring at each other just the past few minutes.”
“No wonder you weren’t answering my questions. Did you ever hear them?”
“No, you were asking me questions?”
“Yeah! Oh look. We’re next.” Melissa pointed out. They slid towards the front gate blocking their entrance to the long anticipating roller coaster. Katie glumly looked away from the dream guy. As she glanced around her, he appeared right beside her.
“Hey!” he smiled sweetly. “Will you wait for me after your ride. I’d like to talk to you.”
Katie starred dumb founded as this guy urged her to stay with him. “Umm...um..yeah....I guess so.” She coarsely got out.
“Okay, thanks.” He smiled again.
“What is with me?” Katie screamed in her mind. “You don’t even know him. Why would you take a chance of putting yourself with him. He could be some awful person that will do anything to me.”
“Katie, go!” Melissa commanded pushing her through the now open gate and to the end of the row.
“Melissa you have to wait with me till he gets off his ride.”
“Till who gets off their ride?”
“That guy!”
“Do you even know his name?”
“No, but he asked me to wait after with him. I don’t want to stay with him by myself. Will you please! I’m begging.” Katie pleaded buckling her safety harness.
“I guess so. Maybe he’ll have another guy with him for me to hang with.”
“Maybe.” Katie once again sighed in contentment. She was now going to get to actually meet this hottie. Maybe he would be so nice and everything she ever dreamed of. Maybe at this exact moment she was being extremely stupid and not realizing things like this don’t happen any where but fairy tales and such.
Katie waited the few minutes till her “eye” guy came around the corner. “Hey.” She meekly smiled.
“Hey, I’m Brian Littrell. You’re...”Brian smiled brightly walking down the exit ramp close behind Katie.
“Katie Allen. Listen I have to check in with my group real quick then me and Melissa can go anywhere. Okay?” Katie silently prayed that there wouldn’t be any objections.
“Sure. Let’s go. Oh this is my cousin, Frank.” Brian pointed out as Frank jogged slowly towards them.
Hurriedly Katie and Melissa checked in with their youth minister then met up with Brian and Frank. They decided to ride the wimpy log flumes. There was nothing else fun nearby. The seating arrangements were Katie and Brian, with Melissa and Frank in a separate log.
Silence filled the log as Brian and Katie struggled to think of something to find a common topic. Neither had done anything of this sort. Katie looked at Brian in front of her, he was starring straight into her eyes.
“What?” Katie blushed.
Brian just reached back and took her hand. “You have the most gorgeous eyes.” Katie blushed even more. Guys never complimented her.
“Thanks.” A steady conversation slowly rolled into play as the ride continued to lag on.
Katie was constantly in awe of everything as it happened that night. They had so much fun, and she seriously almost hated to let go of him as they parted late that night. Of course Brian begged for a good-bye kiss, but Katie didn’t believe in kissing people she didn’t know. In fact, she had never been kissed so why waste her first kiss on someone she hardly knew?
Brian smiled as he remembered that night many years ago. The before Backstreet days. The next few weeks he had really missed her. A connection had taken place that he had never felt with anyone else. But she pushed him away a few days later. Maybe it was just a one night fling for her, but he had really hoped that things would possible work out over the long distance. She stopped answering his e-mails, was never home when he called. So he eventually stopped. But for weeks, almost months after that he couldn’t get the image of her out of his mind. No, she wasn’t the model looking beauty. But she had a rare glow about her, and a spunky personality that brought out all the inner beauty in her. From that day on, Brian promised himself that he would always look at a person’s inside. Throughout his life he hadn’t. He hadn’t wanted to for fear of what his friends would say. But through that night he realized that he had been missing out on so many possibilities. Never again would he make that mistake. He always thanked God, for letting him meet Katie. At times he also prayed that he could see her again one day and thank her for opening his eyes to the wonders of love and relationships.
