C'Mon, Get Happy With Tony Lucca!

This MMC Member Has Lots Of Reasons For Keeping His Sunny Side Up!
Teen Beat 1993

The Mickey Mouse Club is always an exciting place to be, but this past year has been especially thrilling for the members of the Mickey Mouse Club. Last fall, eight of the club's members made their recording rebut with the release of the album, MMC. Rhona Bennett, Nita Booth, JC Chasez, Dale Godboldo, Tony Lucca, Ricky Luna, Jennifer McGill, and Matt Morris traveled on a 10 city tour performing songs from the album and meeting devoted MMC fans. Of course TEEN BEAT had to get in on all the action so we hooked up with MMC's Tony Lucca, in the midst of the tour, for the good word on all the excitement. C'mon, get happy - and just a little bit personal - with Tony!

Teen Beat: Have you and the other members of MMC been receiving a good response from fans while you're on tour?

Tony Lucca: Yes! Each city has [given us] a different response. Some audiences are small, but very devoted fans, and other areas are just a lot of fans. So, we're getting a lot of positive feedback. We perform for 45 minutes and then after the show we do a meet-n-greet which is like an autograph session, picture opportunities, and signing T-shirts and the audience gets to meet us. It's kind of neat to see who's out there cheering for you.

Teen Beat: How would you describe MMC, the album?

Tony: The album is a collaboration of hip-hop, dance, R&B, Top 40, pop music. We've got a couple of ballads on there, a couple of rap/dance tracks, a lot of harmonies, a couple of songs have real smooth harmonies, a lot of love songs. It's a great album for anybody who enjoys Top 40, R&B, and hip-hop.

Teen Beat: On which songs do you sing lead vocals?

Tony: I sing lead on "Cool Love," which is a love song, and I have a featured part on the hit track, "Flava." Those are my moments of glory on the album.

Teen Beat: Do you think there'll be another MMC album?

Tony: I hope so! I think it's very possible.

Teen Beat: Are there one or two members of the club with whom you're especially close?

Tony: I'm real close with JC and Dale. The three of us have a real tight rapport. We're like brothers. And Keri and Rhona - we're real good friends. And Ilana and Marc. [Laughs]

Teen Beat: It sounds like you're close with them all.

Tony: The majority of us are real tight. It sounds like a cliché, but we're very much like brothers and sisters. We visit each other and try to keep in touch as much as possible.

Teen Beat: Give us a message to pass on to your fans.

Tony: If I could say anything to the fans, it would be, keep watching and listening, and if you haven't gotten the album, check it out!

Teen Beat: You're completing your senior year. Do you have plan for college?

Tony: After high school, I'll still be with Disney so I'm going to go wherever the tide takes me and see what happens with my career first. Afterwards, I'll probably try to go to art school or for something in the entertainment field like film production or direction.

Teen Beat: Speaking of art, what kind of art do you like to do?

Tony: I've recently been working with colored pencils and chalk. I've come up with some interesting art that way. I'm not really into painting. I like to sketch or draw.

Teen Beat: Does your schedule allow time to date?

Tony: Yes it does. We work, but we don't work around the clock. We have time to go to dinner and a movie. I don't think I'd be doing this if I didn't have time to do that. If I didn't have time to date I'd probably find another business to get into.

Teen Beat: What qualities do you look for in a girl?

Tony: I look for someone who's very happy and very positive. Someone who can bring me up when I'm down 'cause I have a tendency to get wrapped up in my problems - if I have any - and then I need someone to get me through it and understand me and be there for me. Someone who's honest and honest about how she feels about me.

Teen Beat:What are some qualities that you don't like, ones that you would consider a turn off?

Tony: I like a girl who's real cool and down to earth. I'm not into girls who are into other people's business or talking about other people. That's not cool.

Teen Beat: What do you like to do in your spare time?

Tony: I like to go to jazz cluvs and listen to good jazz music. Every city we go to on the tour it's fun to try to find a nice jazz club and get into good conversation with friends. I like good conversation. But I also like to just hang out and play piano and sing and learn new songs.

Teen Beat: Would going to a jazz club or a coffee house be someplace you'd take a date?

Tony: Definitely. I'd like to find a girl who can appreciate those things also.

Teen Beat: How would you describe yourself? Tony: I'd describe myself as, I guess, very organized. I try to be down to earth, semi-relaxed, fairly intelligent. I'm very fun-loving and humorous and I like having a good time.
