Til Death

Prologue

Melody Hartford stepped out into the Florida sun. Her shinny black hair seemed to catch the sunlight. With flashing green eyes, a perfect nose, and straight white teeth, Melody was beautiful. Not only was she beautiful, but she was 5'7", thin, and could have been a model if it wasn't for her…condition. Melody walked from her family's small, brown, one-story home to their pier. The house was nothing special, but it sat by the water. It also had a huge yard with a tire swing, pool, basketball court, and a regular swing set. At the end of their pier sat a small, blue, speedboat. Melody walked down the pier and jumped onto the boat. During the summer Melody's favorite thing to do was sit on the boat sunbathing and reading. She made her way to the front of the boat when she heard her name being called. "Melody, phone!" Her mom called, leaning out the kitchen window. Great, Melody thought, just when I thought I had some time to relax. As she walked towards the house she suddenly felt light-headed. Slowly she made her way to the house. I'm moving too slowly, she thought, I'm not going to make it. Melody lost consciousness and silently crumpled to the ground.

Melody groaned and sat up. She rubbed her head; her whole body seemed to ache. Startled to find a girl her age, 18, staring at her, Melody jumped up off the ground. The girl was tiny, very thin, and had blond hair and blue eyes. A thin mist seemed to float around her.

"Who are you?" Melody asked when she finally found her voice. The girl smiled, a soft, caring smile.

"Melody, I am your guardian angel," she answered, so soft she was almost whispering.

"My guardian angel? Why are you here, why now?"

"I came to prepare you."

"Prepare me, what do you mean?" Melody asked, confused. Then it became clear to her why, her heart. She had never had a strong heart, and it kept her from doing many things. She could never play sports or go to dances like all her friends. Please don't let her say what I think she is going to say, Melody silently wished.

"Prepare you for heaven. Melody, you were born with a weak heart. God has watched over you and has given you special attention. You are very special, and we have done everything we could to help you, but your time is coming to an end. Melody, I'm sorry, you only have ten more days to live."
