Betrayal of Trust

Chapter One

Nick turned the volume on his portable cd player up as he adjusted his head phones. He sang along with the song he was listening to. As he was singing he looked out the window of the bus and watched the scenery go by. He noticed that it was quite windy out tonight.

Him and the other Backstreet Boys: Howie, AJ, Kevin, and Brian, had just finished up a show that night and were headed off to the next city and the next hotel. Nick was used to this since they were always traveling from one city to the next. Being performers they never got much time to just settle down in one spot for a few days. At the moment they were heading to Ft.Lauderdale, Florida. They had a concert the next night there at the National Car Rental Center.

Howie lay awake in the back of the bus in his bunk. He could hear Nick's singing but couldn't make out the words of the song. Getting annoyed with this he decided to get up and ask Nick to be quiet. He climbed down from his bunk which was above Kevin's. As he was trying to step down he accidentally stepped on Kevin's arm which was hanging out of his bunk.

"Oww..What the hell?!" Kevin yelled waking Brian up.

"Sorry dude, I was going to go ask Nick to stop singing it was keeping me up." Howie said.

"Well hurry up Howie, and don't step on me again!" Kevin said getting agitated.

"Stop being such a grumpy old man Kev." Brian said with a yawn.

"Shut up Brian." Kevin said before rolling over so that his back was facing Brian and Howie.

"Please tell the kid to stop singing, I'll never get to sleep if he doesn't quiet down." Brian said to Howie.

"I plan to tell him." Howie said walking towards the front of the bus where Nick was sitting.

"Nick would you please do something quieter?" Howie asked nicely. After getting no reply he pulled the headphones away from Nick's head and said "Nick be quiet we are all trying to get some sleep."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to keep you guys up." Nick told Howie.

"It's ok, I'm going back to bed. Goodnight Nick."

"Night Howie." Nick said as Howie started walking back towards his bunk. Howie stopped when he heard the bus's weather radio go off.

"A hurricane warning has been issued for the East coast of Florida, going from Jacksonville to Miami. These areas should be prepared and ready in case of an emergency. Severe wind gusts of up to one-hundred miles per hour can be expected. A reminder to all drivers please use caution while driving and stay off the roads if possible. The National Weather Service will issue new information on Hurricane Emily within the hour."

"Oh this is just great" mumbled Howie as he continued to listen to the radio, waiting for anymore hurricane reports.

"Did you say something Howie?" Nick asked as he pushed his headphones off of his ears, the music he was listening to blasting through the air.

"There is a hurricane warning for the east coast of Florida from Jacksonville to Miami" Howie said, repeating what he had heard on the weather radio.

"Really?" Nick asked, his blue eyes wide as he looked out the window.

"No, not really Nick. Just go to sleep and don't worry about it. It is nothing.." Howie stated with sarcasm.

"Fine I can take a hint" said Nick before reaching down and putting his portable CD player into his bookbag. He then stood up and stretched making his way back towards the bunk area.

"Goodnight Howie." said Nick with a yawn "Don't forget to turn off all the lights since you are the last one up."

"Yeah thanks for nothing, Nick" Howie replied as Nick climbed into his bunk. Howie walked up the aisle towards the front of the bus where the driver was and pulled the curtain back, telling the driver goodnight and turned off all the lights as he walked by towards the bunks. With a sigh he climbed into his bed and fell asleep almost instantly.

"What the hell?" Nick mumbled as he was awakened by the sound of thunder and loud rain hitting on the roof of the bus. He got up from his bunk and walked to the front of the bus where the driver was. He pulled the curtain back and looked out the front of the bus and saw the rain pouring hard onto the road in front of him.

"Can't sleep?" Tom, the driver asked.

"Well I was asleep, till the rain woke me up." Nick said still staring ahead of him and into the rain.

"It is pretty loud." Tom replied, "Not to much longer till we get to the hotel though."

"Good, well I'm going to go play some video games till then." Nick said as he closed the curtain and headed for the back of the bus. He sat in front of the TV and started up the nintendo. Just as he was getting into the game the bus came to a sudden stop.

"What the hell was that?" Nick said to himself getting up. He turned the TV and nintendo off quickly and walked to the front of the bus. The other guys were already there and had been awakened by the sudden stop.

"What happened?" Nick asked the others that had turned around when he walked into the room.

"The engine stopped, Tom's out there looking at it right now." Brian said to his friend. Just then Tom came up behind the group.

"Well guys I'm not sure what's wrong with it, but there is a hotel over there." He said pointing out the window to what looked like a very old, desserted hotel.

"How about you guys grab your stuff and head on over there and I'll call someone to come fix the bus?" Tom said.

"Alright." Howie said for all of them. They quietly grabbed the things they would need and shoved them into their duffel bags. Once they had everything they all headed for the front of the bus.

"Everyone got their stuff?" Kevin asked taking on the fatherly role. They all nodded and answered him.

"Ok then, let go." Kevin said walking through the door of the bus with the four others following him. When they reached the hotel they found that it really was desserted.

"Well we really don't have much of a choice as to where to stay right now." Howie said thinking logically.

"Does anyone else think this is to similar our 'Everybody' video?" Nick said causing the others to laugh.

"I'm serious!" He said looking around the old hotel. The five of them decided that they would look around the old hotel and then meet back once again in fourty-five minutes.
