Betrayal of Trust
Chapter Two
Nick and Brian wandered around the old hotel. They climbed a set of stairs that led to the second floor. Brian walked ahead of Nick as they walked down the narrow hallways, some of the old doors on the rooms open. After about ten minutes of walking around the second floor they came upon another set of stairs that they assumed led to the third floor. Both men climbed the stairs, Brian swatted at the cobwebs that were hanging in the air.
"Do these stairs ever end?"Nick questioned Brian. The only reply he got was a barly visible shrug. Brian stopped suddenly causing Nick to bump into him. Brian steadied the light from the one flash light they had with them on the door in front of them.
"What is this?" Nick asked.
"I dunno but it's stuck." Brian replied as he tried pushing the door while turning the knob. "Nick help me push on this." Nick walked up next to him and both pushed on the door until it finally gave way. The old door swung open and both men fell to the floor. They stood up and dusted themselves off as Brian let the light of the flash light sweep across the room inspecting everything around them.
"Wow this must have been one of the old conference rooms." Nick said looking towards an old-style table setup in the middle of the room with old-style chairs around it.
"There's another door over there maybe that leads to more rooms, lets try it." Brian said walking towards the door. He turned the knob and the door opened with no difficulty. Both stepped out and noticed that they were again in a long hallway surrond by tons of rooms. They silently walked down the hallways inspecting everything as they went.
"Great!" Brian exclaimed as the flashlight flickered and died out. He hit it a few times with his palm and then gave up after getting no result.
"This is creepy Brian." Nick said with slight fear in his voice.
"Don't worry Nick, I'm sure we can find our way back lets just try and remember how we got here." Brian said. Just then a figured appeared at the end of the hallway and both Brian and Nick screamed.

"Hey D. I wonder what all are in these rooms?" AJ loudly asked as he climbed the final step to the second floor of the hotel.
"I don't know AJ, I have never been here before you idiot. Quiet down, you are being loud enough to wake the dead!!" Howie hissed as he struck his flashlight against the palm of his hand once the light began to flicker.
"Well sorry" AJ mumbled under his breath. "Hey where ya going, D?" he asked suddenly as his source of light went in the opposite direction, leaving him in darkness.
"Away from you." he heard in reply.
AJ took one look around the floor he was on and shuddered. "Hey D! Wait for me!" he yelled as he turned around and ran after his friend. A few seconds later, he finally caught up to Howie, much to his relief. Suddenly, as AJ was looking at the old pictures on the walls, Howie stopped without warning in front of a set of stairs leading upwards, causing AJ to crash into him. Before AJ could open his mouth to apologize, the sound of Brian and Nick's terror filled screams filled the cold, stale air. Both Howie and AJ looked at each other with question in their eyes and without a second thought, they ran up the stairs to see what had happened to their friends and assist in any way possible.

Brian and Nick looked at each other with a combination of relief and fright in their eyes as they heard the footsteps running up the stairs. They both sighed in relief as they saw AJ and Howie's figures appear at the top of the stairs.
"What's wrong guys?" Howie said as he looked around the area with flashlight in hand. "There is nothing here to scare ya'll."
Brian and Nick looked at each other, slightly embarassed when they looked around and realized that what they had saw earlier was not there anymore.
"We thought we saw something in the hallway, but I guess it was our imagination." Brian explained.
"Yeah I can understand that." AJ suddenly spoke up. "This place gives me the creeps."
His three friend nodded in agreement.
Howie brought his wrist up and aimed the beams of the flashlight towards the watch on his left wrist to examine the time. "Well guys let's all go downstairs and meet up with Kevin the 45 minutes are almost up. We can just come up here as a group later and explore the floors; this place is giving me the creeps also." he said as he turned and started walking down the stairs.
Nick stayed behind as his friend made their way down the stairs; he had an odd feeling that someone or something was watching him. He turned around slowly and saw the figure he and Brian had saw earlier. Without a seconds hesitation, Nick turned around and ran down the stairs, never looking back.
