BSB in High School Chapter 13 & 14

Chapter 13

By the time Monday rolled around, Laura was still euphoric from her date with Nick. She smiled and hummed her favorite All Access song to herself, while pulling books out of her locker.

"Stop smiling," a voice came from behind her. "It's too early to be so happy."

Laura whipped around, startled, to see Sally standing there, rubbing her eyes sleepily.

"Don't do that! You scared me," Laura said accusingly, hitting her friend in the arm.

"Sorry," Sally yawned. "It's just that no one should be this awake at 7:30 in the morning."

"I can't help it!" Laura giggled, then related what happened during the weekend. During the middle of her story, the bell rang and both girls began the walk to first period.

"Oh my gosh, there he is!" Laura pointed and waved at Nick, who was frantically running to class. He smiled, pushing his blond hair out of his face, and tipped his head in her direction. She turned to Sally and sighed, "Isn't he the cutest?"

"So are you guys an item or what?"

Laura scrunched up her nose as they arrived at their government class. "I dunno. We never really discussed it..." Her voice trailed off as they entered the room and took their seats.

Kevin ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. Ever since the beginning of the day, he had been trying to get Kelly to talk to him, but with no success. She merely ignored his attempts to apologize and Kevin still wasn't sure what he had done wrong. On his way to the gym, he spotted her and a friend walking to the girls' locker room.

"Kelly!" he called her and pushed his way through a crowd of people, until he finally caught them. He tapped her on the shoulder, which elicited no response, as Kelly ignored him and continued her conversation.

A pained look flitted across Kevin's face, then was replaced with anger. "Come on Kelly. At least tell me why you're mad at me! I think I deserve to know."

"Do you hear something, Cammy?" Kelly said to the girl walking next to her. Kevin opened his mouth to give her a piece of his mind, when the girls reached the locker room and went inside. He let out a low growl and stomped into the guys' room to change for P.E.

Inside the locker room, Kelly and Cammy were pleased to find out that they were not required to dress out as their class would be learning how to square dance.

"Square dancing is soo dorky," Kelly complained as they walked into the gym to wait for their instructors. She set her green backpack on the bleachers and sat down, reaching into the pocket to retrieve her lip gloss.

"I agree," Cammy said, "but at least we don't have to dress out." She took a seat next to Kelly and her eyes began scanning the room. Her eyes lit up when she saw Howie seated a couple of feet away from her, talking to Kevin. She grabbed Kelly's arm.

"Did you know Howie has P.E. this period?!" she whispered exictedly. Kelly shook her head and Cammy slyly pointed to where he was sitting. "Wouldn't it be cool if we ended up in the same group?"

Kelly nodded, but groaned when she saw Kevin seated next to him. "It would be just my luck," she muttered under her breath.

"What was that, Kel?" Cammy asked.

"Nothing," Kelly said, then both girls fell silent as the instructors announced that they get into groups of four for the activity. They stood up and made their way to the middle of the gym. Cammy kept her eyes focused on where Howie and Kevin were walking. She motioned for Kelly to follow her and lead the way over to the guys.

"Hi Howie," she said shyly. "Can we join you guys?" He nodded and they formed a square, waiting for further instructions. Kevin looked at Kelly, trying to catch her eye, but she avoided his gaze, while glaring at Cammy for dragging her into the awkward situation.

Chapter 14

The whole gym floor was full of people in the formation of a sqaure. Coach Traggit and Coach Patrick were walking around, making sure all the kids were in their places. Patrick, as known to the kids, walked past the square where Cammy, Howie, Kevin, and Kelly were standing.

"What the hell is this shape supposed to be?" Patrick yelled. He made Kelly and Howie switch places, and made the four into a square. "You guys are acting like someone has cooties."

He walked off and took quick glances at the other groups. Traggit started the music, and the kids began to dance. Howie was the show off in the group, while Kevin was still trying to get Kelly's attention. Kelly and Kevin paired off for a couples dance, and Kevin still tried talking to Kelly.

"Kelly, please tell me what is wrong," Kevin said in attempt to gain eye contact from Kelly.

She continued to ignore him.

"How can you be so mad at me when I don't know what happened?" Kevin continued. "I just don't know what to do anymore...You know, the silent treatment isn't going to work forever."

"Trust me Kevin," Kelly said lashing back, "It does."

He smiled. "I finally got you to say something to me. Now, please tell me why you are mad."

"That will come in due time," Kelly said with a smirk on her face.

They got back in the sqaure to continue dancing, but the bell rang. Kelly and Cammy ran to get their backpacks, and made their way to the next class.

Sky Lynn walked out to her car and put her AP Biology book in the backseat. As she was walking away from the car, a bright pink flower stood out in the corner of her eye and she proceeded back. She noticed a pink rose on her car, with a note from AJ.

She held the rose up to her nose, letting its sweet scent fill her nostrils. She carefully unfolded the piece of paper and read softly to herself:

To the Beautiful Sky Lynn,

Somebody told me that you're not my kind, so have I lost my mind? You keep on doing all the things I like, you've got me hypnotized. That's the Way I like it. I can't stop thinking about you. Meet me at the mall at 6:30pm tomorrow night. Dress for a night on the town.

Love,

AJ McLean

Sky Lynns heart stopped beating momentarily as she reread the note several times. She pinched herself to make sure she wasn't dreaming, the yelped when she felt the pain in her arm. As she walked back towards campus, a million thoughts ran through her mind. What outfit should I wear? Do I have shoes to match? She stopped dead in her tracks as another thought entered her head. Does this mean Antonia and AJ broke up?

After the bell rang for lunch, Kevin met up with Brian. and the two guys walked slowly through the parking lot. Kevin began describing the difficult situation he found himself in, concerning Kelly.

"I don't understand why Kelly won't talk to me," Kevin scratched his head in bewilderment. "I have replayed this weekend over and over again and I can't seem to figure out what I did. I thought everything..." Kevin's voice began to trail off, as Brian made his way over to where Nicole was. He called her name and she glanced up from unlocking the door to her car. She smiled, and walked towards him.

Brian nervously said, "Hi...uh...I was...um...wondering ...if you...uh, wanted to come watch us practice after school."

"I'd love to!" Nicole accepted the invitation, much to his relief.

"So I'll see you after school? We practice at AJ's," he informed her.

"I'll be there. Thanks Brian," she grinned and he returned to where Kevin was standing.
