Chapter 6

By: Victoria S.

The next day, at about 11:00 I awoke with the sun shining brightly in my face. It took me awhile to get out of bed, due to the fact that Nick and I hadn't gotten back to the hotel till' around 4:00 in the morning. He had walked me to my room, and had given me a good-night kiss. I could tell that he didn't want to leave. I could tell that he wanted to stay, and talk some more, but we both knew that he needed some sleep, because he was performing that night. When I finally got out of bed, I decided to take a shower, so I could fully awaken. I knew that the cold water would do some good to my sleepy and tired body. When I had finished with my shower I wrapped my hair in a big white towel, and went to find some clothes to wear. I decided on a pair of blue jean shorts, a light purple V- neck tank top, and my white Adidas. I blow dryed my hair, put my make-up on, and then decided to go look for the guys. OK, so who am I kidding. I was looking for Nick. I went and knocked on his door, but there was no answer. I then went to Brian's room, and knocked on his door. There was also no answer. I went to AJ's, Kevin's and Howie's room, and again in all three rooms there was no answer. I didn't know where they could be, so I decided that I would go down to the main desk of the hotel, and ask them. When I had reached the lobby, I walked over to the main desk. After what seemed like a five hour wait, someone finally helped me.

"What can I do for you miss?" a short, bald, and rounded man asked me.

"I was just wondering if you could tell me where the Backstreet Boys have gone," I asked.

"I'm sorry miss, that kind of information is strictly confidential."

"But.." I began to say.

Before I could finish I was rudely cut off by the man.

"No buts miss. I can not give away that kind of information."

"I don't think you understand," I said beginning to get annoyed.

"I understand perfectly. Your a fan who would like to meet them. But that isn't possible. Now, if you could kindly step aside so I could help the next guest."

"Can I please speak to your manager?" I said now annoyed.

"Your looking at him."

"You've got to be kidding me."

"Nope, no joke."

"But, Mr., I need to know where they are. I came here with them. I'm their friend, alright? I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you told me. Trust me."

"OK, so if your their friend, like you claim," he said. "Then why aren't you with them?"

"Because I was sleeping. They probably didn't want to wake me up."

"Sure, sure.." he said in a sarcastic tone. By that time I was so fed up. I felt like screaming, yelling, and cussing him out, but instead of causing a scene I just walked away. Right as I turned to walk in the other direction I bumped into someone. I couldn't tell right away who it was, because of the fact that this person was so much taller than I was. I had bumped right into the guys chest. When I looked up, I saw that it was Nick.

"Hey beautiful.." he said smiling, and giving me a kiss on the forehead. "What's wrong? You look annoyed."

"That's because I am annoyed."

"Are you mad that we left without waking you up? I'm sorry, we just thought that you might want some sleep.."

"Oh, Nick, it's not that. I'm not annoyed, or mad at that at all. It's just that this man," I said pointing to the short, frumpy man that had been so rude to me "wouldn't tell me where you guys were. I asked him, and he didn't believe that I knew you guys. He was being all sarcastic with me.. God, what a jerk."

"He didn't believe you?"

"No! I kept asking where you guys were, and he was like well, if they are your friends, why aren't you with them. And then when I explained to him that I was sleeping, and you probably didn't want to wake me, he said sure, sure in a completely sarcastic tone."

"Hold on, let me take care of this," he said. He walked over to the man who was writing down something, and said "Excuse me, sir..."

The man looked up from his paper and said "Mr. Carter! Hello. Is there anything, anything I can do for you?" he said in a very sincere tone.

"Yes, as a matter of fact, there is," Nick said smiling. "I would like you to apologize to this lady.." He motioned for me to come closer, and I did. I walked up to the desk, and looked at the man, smiling at him. "You see, she just told me that you were very rude to her, and wouldn't tell her where we were. She also said that you were using a very sarcastic tone with her."

"Oh, Mr. Carter, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..."

"Don't apologize to me," Nick said. "Apologize to her."

He took a deep breath, and looked at me. "I'm sorry miss for being so rude. It's just that.."

Nick cut in. "Save it. We've had enough of your crap." Nick grabbed my hand, and we walked away towards the hotels entrance.

When we were outside I turned and faced him "Thanks Nick. That was brilliant."

"No problem, hun."

I smiled at him, and looked him over. He was wearing a pair of dark denim baggy jeans with a simple white T-shirt over it. He was also wearing a white and blue backwards hat. He apparently was looking me over also, because when I was done checking him out I noticed him looking me up and down. He saw that I had seen him, and his cheeks turned bright red. "Sorry," he said rushed.

"It's alright, Nick," I said smiling. I wrapped my hands around his waist, and brought him close to me. He put his arms around my back, and rested his chin on the top of my head, as I put my head on his chest. "What are we waiting for?" I asked looking out at the passing cars on the street.

"For the guys. We had gone out to take care of some business this morning, and since you were still asleep, and you would most likely get bored waiting for us we decided to let you sleep. Then, when we finished with all that we came back here to see if you had woken up yet. Since there's no parking allowed, they are circling around the hotel."

"Who's car are they in?"

"Kev's beamer."

Just then they pulled up. Nick released his grip from my back, and I did the same with his waist. Nick opened the car door.

"Where am I going to sit?" I asked peering inside. Kevin was driving, Howie was in the passenger's seat, and AJ and Brian were in the back.

"On me," Nick said with a smile.

I knew that he must have deliberately taken Kevin's BMW, so I would have to sit on him. They could have just as easily taken AJ's Expedition which had a lot more room in it for everyone to sit. But I knew that I didn't mind. I wasn't complaining.

Nick got in the car, and then somehow, don't ask me how, I managed to squeeze in, on top of him. He put his arms around me, and the hotel valet service closed the door for us.

"Hey guys!" I said happily looking at all the guys.

"Hey Becca," Brian said.

"Where's Leighanne?" I asked Brian. I wanted to thank her for being so nice to me the previous night when I had needed her help. She didn't even know me, and yet she still comforted me in every way. I was truly grateful, and I wanted to let her know that I was.

"She had some things she needed to do. She's gonna meet us before the concert tonight. You and her will be sitting together when we are performing, so you will have plenty of time to talk."

"Oh, alright, cool. How are you all doing?"

"I'm tired.. It's been a long, and hectic day. And it JUST started" AJ said with a sigh.

"Aww.. Pobre cito," I said sympathetically.

"You know Spanish?" Howie inquired.

"Nope. I just know how to say poor baby" I said laughing.

Howie began to laugh, and so did the others.

"Of course you would know that!" Brian said in laughter.

"Hey!" I shouted.

"So, Kev, where are we going now?" Nick asked tightening his grip around my waist.

"To eat! I'm hungry, and my stomach is grumbling," he said continuing to drive. I looked out the window, just in time to see the car in front of us suddenly stop. To avoid hitting them, Kevin turned the wheel sharply to the left, and I went flying. Nick tried to hold on to me, but his hands slipped, and he let go. I slammed right into the window head first over by AJ's side of the car, and I landed right into AJ's lap. Kevin pulled over to the side of the road, and stopped.

"Oh my gosh, are you OK?" he asked turning around in his seat to face me.

"Yeah, I'm alright," I said rubbing my head. It was throbbing. It felt like someone had taken a baseball bat, and slammed it against my head a couple two, three times. "I'll live." I rubbed my head, and cringed at the pain.

Kevin got out of the car, and opened AJ's side of the car, helping me out. All the guys got out, and Nick ran over to where I was standing, rubbing my head.

"Are you OK sweetie?" he asked concerned, and pulling me into his arms.

I knew right then that everything would be alright. Just hearing him call me sweetie, and him hugging me took all the pain away. "I'm alright now," I said smiling at him. He smiled back and gave me a kiss on the lips.

"God, what an ass!" Kevin said inspecting the car to see if there was any damage. "Why the hell did he just stop like that?"

"Who the hell knows.." Brian said looking the car over.

"Luckily there is no damage done to the car," AJ said.

"Just to my head," I said laughing. "Ouch!" I said. Laughing hurt. My head was throbbing from the pain. "Anyone have any Tylenol?"

"We can stop at that gas station over there and get some if it would help," Nick said.

"Yes, it would help," I said rubbing my temples trying to make the headache pass.

"Let me drive," AJ said getting into the car. "Maybe this time I can try to get us to where we wanna go SAFELY," he said staring at Kevin.

"Hey, it's not my fault that that dude stopped right in front of me!" Kevin shouted.

"Kev, I was just joking," AJ said.

"Yeah, whatever.." Kevin said annoyed.

Howie got into the passengers seat, Kevin took AJ's seat, Brian got in next to him, then Nick, and then I got on top of Nick. We stopped at a nearby gas station, got me some Tylenol, and then we went to McDonald's to get some lunch. After lunch, AJ drove us to the venue. The parking lot was huge, but only had a couple of cars in it. I knew that by that night the whole parking lot would be full of cars, and screaming girls. I smiled at the thought. AJ parked the car, and we all got out. AJ, Kevin, Brian, and Howie walked in fast, but Nick and I lingered in back taking our time.

"Feeling any better?"

"Yeah, a lot. The Tylenol did miracles."

"That's good to hear."

"What time is the concert tonight?"

"7:00. I don't even know why we are here right now. We don't need to be here till' like two hours before the show. Hey, after we find out why we are here, wanna get outta here, and go do something?" Nick asked.

"I would love to do something with you Mr. Carter," I said smiling.

"Good. Let's go inside, find out what the plan is, and then let's get out of here."

He took my hand, and put it in his, and we walked side by side into the venue. As we walked, I kept glancing over at him. He was so beautiful, and perfect in everyway. I was so happy that finally, we were together. I didn't know what kind of relationship we were having. I didn't know whether we were girlfriend/boyfriend, or what our commitment towards each other was. I knew right then what my answer would be if he asked me to be his girlfriend. I knew that I loved him. I just knew it. Your probably thinking 'how the hell can this girl know she loves him?' The answer is simple: I just knew. The way I knew was because the feeling that I had in my stomach, the feeling that I had running throughout my whole body was a feeling that I had never felt before. Not even for AJ. Once when I was small I had asked my mom how she knew that she loved my father. Her answer was 'You just know. When you are in that situation, you know it. You can feel it running throughout your whole body. It's this indescribable feeling. It has no name. It just comes, and stays there. In some cases it lasts a lifetime, in others, it doesn't. It just depends. When you fall in love, you will know it.' And I knew it. I knew that I loved Nick. I just didn't know if he felt the same way towards me. Did he love me? Did he like me? What did he feel towards me? Those were the questions running through my mind as we entered the auditorium. Those were the questions that I wanted answers to. I just didn't know how to bring it up in a conversation. Although I didn't know how to, it didn't keep me from wondering..
