Chapter 9

Brian stormed to the opposite end of the camp. He sat down on a rock. He didn't know what to make of what he had just learned. His mother was a hero, his father was a mystery, what was he? Frustrated, Brian picked up a rock the size of a baseball and heaved it into the wall with such force, that the rock split on impact. "Good arm." A voice commented from behind Brian.

Brian whirled around to find Alan. "What do you want?" Brian asked coldly.

"Woah, calm down!" Alan held up his hands in defense. Then, his face softened. "You look just like your mother when you're angry."

Brian lowered his defenses a little, "You knew my mother?"

Alan smiled and sat down next to Brian. "She was the finest woman that I ever knew. One moment, she would try to seduce you, and the next, she would be so full of fire, she could kill."

Brian just looked at him. "Were you one of her original friends who started the Resistance?"

Alan smiled, "I am. I can still remember the day Alex kicked my ass in training in front of the entire facility."

"Do you know who my father is?" Brian asked timidly, yet with eagerness in his voice.

"That is a hard question, I do know the answer to that, but I don't think the time is right for you to know." Alan answered.

"Why Not?!" Brian demanded.

"Because it's not my place to tell you." Alan replied calmly.

"Then who's is it?!" Brian was getting irritated.

"You will soon find out." Alan placed a hand on Brian's shoulder, before departing the boy. He left Brian to think about what he had said, and whatever had bothered him to begin with.

Brian was frustrated, no one would answer the questions he asked, and the ones he didn't ask, they answered for him. He picked up another rock and threw that one too. Them he proceeded to pace back and forth.

Alan watched him from around the corner. Brian mirrored his mother so much, and he had a lot of his father in him too. As he continued to watch Brian, he gradually saw Alex, until an image of the past came before him...

A few years before Brian was born...

"I can't believe they're planning on doing this!" Alex raved as she paced the room.

"Can you calm down? Dan asked.

"No I can not calm down!" Alex looked like she was going to rip his head off.

"Don't be mad at me! I didn't do anything!" Dan held up his hands defensively.

"Besides, what are you going to exactly do you plan to do?" Josh asked.

"I -I -I don't know," Alex stuttered, "But I'll think of something."

"The question is what," Alan stated.

"I mean whatever you plan to do, it isn't going to help going out and killing 'rebels' tomorrow." Josh said.

"Why don't you just somehow bring all the 'rebels' together and form a bigger group," Dan suggested as if that statement was nothing.

"That's it!" Alex exclaimed.

"What's it?" Josh looked like he was caught off guard by Alex's outburst and he nearly fell out of his chair.

"You see if you just infiltrate them as planned, but, instead we..." Alex began rambling off the plan.

"Did I miss something?" Alan asked.

"Only Alex's latest plan to save the world," Josh was the skeptical one of the group.

"Oh, so, basically I can take a nap and nothing will happen?" Alan joked.

"Yep," Jason replied.

"NO!" Alex interrupted. "You'll miss a hell of a lot! I have the perfect plan this time!"

"Last time we listened to one of you plans, we almost got ourselves killed," Josh pointed out.

"Shut up!" Dan interrupted, "I want to hear how we're gonna save the world this time and not get killed."

"Hey, give me some credit here, I haven't gotten us killed...yet." Alex retorted.

"YET?!" Josh exclaimed, "So you're planning on getting us killed?!"

"As far as they know you'll be dead." Alex simply stated.

"I don't know about you guys, but I kind of like living." Alan said.

"You really won't be dead though." Alex added.

"Would you care to explain?" Josh asked.

"Ok, first, we infiltrate the 'rebels' as planned." Alex began. The others nodded and silently asked her to keep going. "Then we suggest to them that they make one large resistance. With more people, they'll be more effective then a few hits here and there. We'll put them into hiding and one by one, we'll get 'killed' and go into hiding with them until we're big enough to cause some real damage." Alex finished.

"And how do you expect us to get away with this without the Junta finding out?" Josh wanted to know.

Sadness crept upon Alex's face, "A few sacrifices will have to be made." Sorrow crept over the group and the flash back began to fade out....

Alan blinked away a few tears before he saw Brian again. Alan nodded, Yes, Brian was Just like Alex, but, did he have the courage and strength to survive what lay ahead of him?
