98°- The Debut

Daly's
Review of the First CD

Here's my review of the first cd...perhaps I am harsh, but actually, I think this is their better one. I grade with stars 0-5 (5 being the best) So, have you any disagreements with it, or you think I hit the nail right in the head, e-mail me at sodachick182@hotmail.com. On with the review....

Intro

Stupid, pointless, dumb. "Are you ready baby?" Just sign the damn songs. (no stars)

Come and Get It

Cool beat, a little faster than most of the songs on the cd. Lyrically challenged. OK, now I'll admit, lyrics and hitting the right note are what I basically critique on. Most of my commens have to do with that.**1/2

Invisible Man

Come on, how can you not love this one? I like that they take a different role (being ignored) versus the traditional. One of my favorites. ****1/2

Was It Something I Didn't Say

I really like this one. I think it's even better than 'Invisible Man'. Jeff sounds great in teh begininning and they harmonize beautifully on the refrain. I really like the fade-out too. *****

Take My Breath Away

Eh. I dunno, it just seems so mediocre. Just another "I love you, and I am a better person for loving you" songs. And the 'sweet lady' reminds me of Tyrese. After 3 slow songs, I'm ready for a beat, you too? Also, anyone notice how towards the ends of the last few songs Jeff always goes off on a little yelling fit? (ex.- "My breath has now been taken") Sweetie, just shut up and let the others harmonize.

Hand in Hand

If I had the patience to listen to this song, there would be a review. I don't, so there isn't.(no stars)

Intermood

Cool. Voices blend.***

Dreaming

Yes! A beat! After 5 slow ones! Cool lyrics, another "different" point of view. Jeff and Nick do a great job on verses and of course, good backup doesn't hurt.(Although, if you've listened to this song 8 million times like I have, towards the end someone says "98°, keep it hot and steamy." Is this relly nessecary?)*****

Heaven's Missing an Angel

Perfection! This has got to be my favorite love song of all time, replacing "Lady in Red". I have to hand it to Nick. The boy can sing. (of course w/ excellent backup!) The lyrics are great. I have nothing to critize. ******(beyond excellent)

I Wasn't Over You

The recurring drum...catchy chourus, ok lyrics. Basically they are griping about some chick who left them while they were on tour. Ah, the life of a rock star. (oops, singing group?)***1/2

Completely

A perfect harmony in the begininning. I guess this was the one they wrote/produced. A ok first effort. After a while I'm like "End already!" *** (cause I'm a sucker for harmonies)

Don't Stop the Love

(Side note- If anyone was a Golden State Warriors fan in the early 90's, remember "Don't Stop the Noise!" I just always think of that)A Justin solo in the begininning! But Nick sounds a little too cocky in the verses. Maybe you arn't that great, superstud.***

I Wanna Love You

This is the only time I will let stupid lyrics pass. I like the chant and the beat. Hey, Nick and Jeff (and, what the hell, Drew, I am a slut) can love me anyday.****
