December 30, 1999 - Thursday
When I went to bed last night, I really didn't sleep that well. It might have been
the coffee that I drank Wednesday night, it might have been the fact that I wanted
to get up really early, but anyway, I couldn't sleep. Around 3 I got up and worked
on my home page a bit more. Finally I went to bed around 5 am and got a bit of sleep.
Today was Niigata day so I got up around 8:00 am and rode to the train station. I
bought my ticket nice and early so I went for breakfast at Mr. Donuts. That was a
really nice thing to do.
I caught the train with no problems and wrote part of a letter and then took a nap.
I met Taeko around 1:05 pm, and it's a good job that I was watching for her as she
didn't wear her glasses and she didn't see me! We went for lunch at a little restaurant
that she knew. It was nice, although she said that it had changed from the last
time she had been there.
After that we took a bus to the Furamachi area and went shopping :-) We bought some
cosmetics and did a lot of wishful thinking.
When we noticed that time was getting a bit short we took a bus back and went to....my
stamp shop where I was remarkably restrained...I promise...and then to the Virgin
Megastore, where I mostly behaved myself! I did get 3 cds, but I think they'll be
really good. After that we walked towards the station and found a little restaurant on
the way. We had our supper there. It was okay, but nothing too special.
I caught the train with no mishaps, but on the way back to Tsuruoka it stopped for
about 40 minutes at a small town. I wasn't sure what the problem was, the conductor
did come and talk to people but I didn't understand at all. He even did a head count
to see where we were all going, but nothing came of it. I assume that there was a delay
with the southbound express, but I don't really know. Strange that.
Anyhow that was my day. It was great. I'm looking forward to getting some sleep
though.
Tomorrow I guess we'll find out if all the doomsday predictions will come true or
not. I hope they don't. Anyway, I wish all my readers a happy, safe, and peaceful
New Year.
