August 19, 2000 - Saturday
There was a baseball game on TV when I got up this morning. That meant that I couldn't
watch the news. I was disappointed, but figured that I'd read the newspaper at work.
Well, for some reason, they sent a Japanese newspaper instead of our usual English one, so I lost out twice!
And, after an incredibly hot walk to work this morning, I'd just opened the office
doors and was on my way to change into my work clothes, when I saw a man outside
the office. I asked if I could help him and it turns out he was from our head office
doing a surprise inspection. Oh boy! Here was I in casual pants and an ancient t-shirt.
I welcomed him in and told him that I was on my way to change my clothing. He seemed
very nice, but it was certainly a strange start to the day.
Classes went well today. Everyone showed up that was supposed to, that was good.
The problem is that the air-conditioner is turned off in our building at 4:30 in
the afternoon, and I have to work until at least 9:00 pm. It gets stuffy within
25 minutes. For my last two classes I had my paper fan sitting on my desk and I waved it around
every few minutes.
After I finished teaching I had a bit of paperwork to do. It got done and then it
was time to leave. The walk home was fine, just hot and sticky. The temperature
has gone down, but it is still really humid.
My evening was quiet. I answered a bit of e-mail and watched TV. I cooked supper...can
you believe it? I'm still amazed by that one. Julia Child I'm not.
Oh, yes, last night's question, to bath or not to bath...not to bath. I just went
to bed.
I did forget to write about something unusual that I saw yesterday...A horse in the
back of a truck. It was parked outside the Grand Hotel. I would like to know the
story behind that one.
So, I think I'm done for now. Tomorrow I hope to finally buy my new VCR. Tune in
and see if I do it!
