August 21, 2000 - Monday
I was busy again today. My day started early and didn't stop! I got up a bit after
9 today...Brian Setzer woke me up with a smile on my face this morning. Big Band
music is good for waking a body up! I showered and dressed, ate a container of yogurt
and then went downstairs to meet my co-worker.
She took me to her friend's apartment. Her friend has graciously offered to help
me learn Japanese. I stayed there for a bit over an hour and we did a bit of work,
reviewing things that I learned and working on pronunciation. It was fun.
After my lesson I went to the video store and rented a couple of videos. The one
I watched today was only okay. The other one is an Edward Norton/Matt Damon movie.
I hope it'll be better than okay. On my way home from the video store I popped
into a bakery and bought some things for brunch. I went home and wolfed them down, spilling
mayonnaise all over my pants. I was late, so I couldn't do anything about it except
wipe them off.
I had to walk extremely fast to the train station. I was late, but not too bad.
The teachers from Sapporo waited for me. I was a bit out of breath when I met them,
but, no matter.
We set off walking, after a long stop at a bank to cash some travellers cheques. We
headed off to see the canal. We didn't end up there right away. We took a wrong
turn and ended up in the middle of nowhere! We did find a nice park and a shop that
sold good ice cream before we found the canal. There was also a neat antique shop near
it. It didn't really have antiques, at least what I consider antiques, but it did
have cool stuff.
We went for lunch to Otaru Beer. It was pretty good. It was hard to find things
that everyone liked though. There were two vegetarians, someone who can't eat fish,
and me who can't eat tomatoes. We did manage to get quite a mixture though. It was
good.
Then we set off to find some of the glass shops that Otaru is famous for. It took
us a while to get to them, but we did. The goods in the store were amazing. I wished
I had enough money to buy things. I didn't buy anything today, but I do plan/hope
to go back and get some things.
After the stores, the other teacher's interest was flagging and it was decided that
they'd leave. They were going to walk all the way back to the main station, but
I saw a sign for the Minami Otaru station so I suggested they use that one. They
agreed and on the way there we came to a parting of the ways. I gave them directions to the
station and I walked home.
At home I watched Sabrina, then popped in a video. At 9:00 I checked regular TV and
a great movie, The Little Princess was on, so I stopped the video and watched it.
The end got me again, I was a little teary then.
After the movie I finished my video and watched ER. Somewhere along the way I answered
the telephone and wrote this entry. It was a good day, just too hot...again. I'm
so tired of the heat. I drank so much water today because I feel a bit dehydrated.
Here's to a cooler tomorrow!
