May 14, 2000 - Sunday
This was a great day. It was so enjoyable.
Masako and I got up around 11. I made coffee and we watched the movie show on the
usually scrambled channel. We went to the restaurant across the street for lunch.
It was nice for me to have lunch with another person again. We ate and then as
it was a beautiful day we decided to walk to Tsuruoka park.
It was sunny and warm so the walk was very enjoyable. The park was full of people
today. Seniors were making old fashioned toys for kids. Kids had stilts, windmills
and there was a kind of hoop game too. We went to the Taiho-kan museum and then crossed
over the street and went to the Chido-kan museum. It was nice. The grounds were
beautiful and the trees were flowering.
We sat and talked in one of the buildings in the Chido-kan and then went on our way.
We went to Ginza street, to go to a coffee shop, but it was closed. Then we decided
to go to a second hand cd store and we spent a bit too much time there. We weren't
able to go out for ice cream, so we high-tailed it back to my apartment and called
a taxi. We took the taxi to the mall and Masako caught her bus.
I had a look around the mall for an ex-student of mine that works there, after that
had a quick bite to eat at the mall, then walked to my school. My manager was waiting
for me. We loaded a bunch of empty boxes into her car and she drove them to my apartment. We unloaded them here.
Then I offered to take her to the sushi restaurant near my place. We went! It was
fun. They stopped revolving the sushi after a while so we had to order, but it tasted
really good. Then she drove me back to the school and I rode my bike home.
On the way, I stopped and rented some movies. The two that I've already watched were
quite bad. One's Japanese title was Cube IQ so I thought it would be a sequel to
the bizarre little Canadian movie Cube, but it wasn't. Instead it was a very bad
Australian movie. Generally Australian movies are good, but this one stunk! The other
one, Mummy was based on a Bram Stoker movie and wasn't too bad. It had a few TV
actors in it.
When I was watching that movie, my phone rang. It was the girl that I'd been looking
for today. How's that for coincidence? I haven't tried to find her in months and
the day I do, she called me. It turns out she had moved to another city and wanted
to let me know. We gabbed for a while and then said goodbye.
I told her my news.
I guess I'll announce it here now. I tried to let as many people know ahead of time
as I could, but I'm leaving Tsuruoka at the end of the month. I'll be transferring
to Otaru in Hokkaido. I apologize if this is the first time you've heard of it.
I have about two weeks to pack up my belongings and move my life!
Anyway, it was really great that she called me because I didn't know where she was
or how to get in touch with her. If she hadn't called me we would have lost each
other I think.
In a few minutes I'm going to go to bed. I've lots to do on the morrow.
