March 30, 2001 - Friday

I had a long day! It wasn't too busy as one of my students had cancelled his class, but it was long.

My kids lesson went especially well and I think we all had a good time. We did a lot of writing practice as we have a new student in class.

I did my paperwork and was even moved to prepare a class for the next week...to save myself a bit of time.

After work, it was time for Justin's goodbye party. I had been told that there would be a bit of food there, but the definite opinion that I was given was that there wouldn't be very much food available! So, on my way to the izakaya, I stopped off at a convenience store and bought a couple of rice balls to eat as I was starving and didn't want to drink on an empty stomach. It was a little embarrassing eating them on the street as that is a big no-no in Japan, but I wolfed them down.

When I got to the izakaya, I met up with some of students and we went in. I was very surprised to see that the tables were covered in food, and during the evening even more was brought out. I really didn't need my onigiri after all! We had a great time, gabbing and eating and even drinking a little! It was fun. We asked about karaoke afterwards and quite a few people wanted to go. We found a place to go and some people walked there, some people drove...I was one of the walkers.

It was a small place that was actually quite close to where I live. I decided to stay for only one hour, but in fact ended up staying for 2 and a half! Of course, owing to the fact that I haven't been to karaoke in a couple of months, I sang a lot. I did a bunch of crazy songs, like Pretty Fly and Day-O, but I tried to do a few more fun and romantic ones too! I even helped a bit with a couple of songs that a student wanted to sing.

I went home and immediately went to bed, although it was hard to breathe over the cigarette smell. A lot of people there smoked and by the end of the night my eyes were smarting and my throat was dry.

I didn't even turn on my computer, which is why I'm writing this late!
