Using the Ba Gua

Pay close Attention please !
This Section is The Key to your Feng Shui Practice

First: Take the traditional, octagonal
Ba Gua. . .

and stretch/expand it to conform

to the Lo Shu Square.

..

- The ancient Lo Shu Magic Square
is a tic-tac-toe-like grid in which nine numbers are placed –
Each row, in any direction, adds up to the same total . .

The actual numbers have their own significance & meaning
in Chinese numerology - but they do not directly relate to our
Feng Shui studies, so don't get caught up in the numbers.

Second: Next, insert the titles of the Life Areas in place of the numbers in the Lo Shu square. Now your Operating Ba Gua will look like this:

.
Unless you are prepared to instantly memorize (<) this diagram, you should make a copy now, or print it out. This Operating Ba Gua can be carried in purse or pocket to be immediately available for Feng Shui reference or consultation.

Each of the Gua (the outside, eight areas) has a Life Area title or description.

The center Gua has no title; it is simply the Center where the other eight areas all converge.

The Main Entrance is Always aligned somewhere along the bottom row !

The Entrance will always be in front, along the bottom row;
that is: either in the Knowledge or the Career or the Travel area.

Third: Stand at the main Doorway of the room, house, or office to be surveyed - you must be looking inside.

Hold your Operating Ba Gua in your hand/mind just as you see it above. Superimpose this Ba Gua grid over your floor plan.

Here are three Examples:

.

Your "superimposing" & "stretching" is a Mental process as well as something you do on paper.

The Tic-Tac-Toe grid is always stretched to include the entire structure.

In Variable structures, portions of some areas
(or sometimes, entire areas) are missing

Feng Shui cures must be used to compensate for these lost spaces.
