CONCERT REPORTS:

MAY 3 (THE INCAHOOTS, ST. LOUIS)

PART 1:
I flew in at around noon Barb picked me up we went straight to the station and picked up Judi, Leigh, Lesley and Suzi. It was great to see them again, since we left each other on the Sunday. We went to Barb's and got ready. Then we went to Incahoots.
The place was not like the Showboat, it was a Country and Western, bar kinda like a big warehouse! When we got there there was one girl sat outside, she'd been there since noon, she said David and Patrick had just arrived and gone in, shoot we just missed it!!!
Anyways when we went in, the seats were in rows, but some were way to the side and the one's at the back were miles away. We had really crappy seats. Anyway, I had my T-shirt on and this guy noticed the flag and I said we'd come all the way from the UK, so could we move up at first he said no, but then he said when the show starts Move, boy did we move. Judi, Leigh, Lesley and Suzi were in the front row and me and Barb were 3rd row, but centre isle, so it was great.
David was sensational as always, he made a joke about the place, said something about it being the most unique place he'd ever played  after his migrane had gone and he dug the plastic seats and neon, very funny.
I think they had some sound problems at first cos David kept nodding to the band. Anyway cos it was a country and Western place, David said Lon Bronson wanted to sing, so he, Lon Bronson came out and sang Rawhide. It was too funny.  Afterwards David came back on and said "Wasn't that the most embarrassing thing you've ever seen!!"
David went through the songs like at AC. We were clapping cheering and standing up, but some of the high rollers were quiet, so David made a comment at them, "if you don't stand up on your own I'll make you stand up!" He also called his fans to the front and also told the ones at the back to come forward too.
You know, the guy is just so good to the fans, he knows he can't come out like the Copa show, and he knows we want to get close to him. So he does this cos he knows we want it, god he's just the best.
Anyway, when I got to the front he saw the T-shirt. He bent down to read the slogan, he read it slowly, he looked stunned. He said he'd be in England next year. Then a girl gave him another one with his pic on he held it up and said "what do you want me to do with this?" She said "wipe your face," so he wiped his face and gave it back to her.
He was working so hard holding hands, doing high fives, touching peoples hair and faces, we carressed his leg and ankle but one girl grabbed his waist and leg so he said "I'd better move back." One girl got on the stage and security took her off. Wish people wouldn't do that. Some go too far. One girl was putting her hand up his leg too far, and he said "Careful baby, your nearly at the X zone!!"
The stage was lower than at the Showboat. I think so he seamed closer to us. He ended with Cry, god I love that. He was swigging beer from a bottle at the end and he stood by me, so I looked up and he handed the bottle to me. I think he also threw a towel out, He said "let's continue the party at Harrah's!" At the time it didn't click!!! Well that's all I remember. Does anyone else?
Oh yeah, after one of the guys said "did you enjoy that, was it worth coming all the way from London?" I said "Yes you bet it was!!!"
He said, "we wanted him to do a meet and greet, but he wouldn't." We said we agree with him. Why should he meet people that are not interested, we know he'd rather meet real fans, that put him in his place!!! We all stayed chatting for a while and then decided to eat. Denny's or Harrah's? Harrah's won, and I'm glad it did, cos the best was yet to come...

PART 2:
Afterwards we went to Harrah's for a meal, played the slots. Then we were leaving. I stood by the entrance waiting for Suzi when I saw David coming in with his brother Patrick and a few more. I said "here comes David!" The others said "yeah, whatever!" (why does no-one ever believe me). Any way as he came through the barier, I turned around and he said "Hi there, how are you?"  I didn't go all daft this time. I actually shook his hand and had a proper conversation, told him how brilliant the show was, how we'd all been at Atlantic City and I'd be in Las Vegas. He said he'd be in England in September. They were all in the casino for about half hour walking around. We left and they were behind us (David and Patrick) coming out. David and Patrick hugged, and Patrick caught up with us. Suzi started chatting to him. He was great. He said "have you all seen David's show? Well, come see mine, it's better." They said they are tomorrow . I asked him if he'd be in the London production later. He said he'd like too, but they ususally have a London cast.

WHO STILL HAS HAD NOOOO SLEEP SINCE LAST FRIDAY!!!!!!

PS! David said during the concert that he saw Patrick's show the night before.

Well, here we go again...I never thought I would be typing all this stuff about David's concerts...so much happens at them!!
I picked up Gail (Hi Gail!!!) first at the airport..she was frantically looking for me the second she got up the runway...after hugs and kisses...we headed for a bite to eat, all the while discussing the AC concerts and we were pinching ourselves that we were lucky enough to see David again! Then it was on to the train station to pick up Leigh, Leslie, and Judi  (Hi girls!!) Then it was back to my house to get ready for the concert.
We arrived at Incahoots, a country & western bar (more on that later), around 4:30 PM. The concert didn't start until 7:30, so we had some time to wait. We had reserved seats with actual seat assignments. This was not good, as it made it very difficult to get down front, but we were pretty determined, and we were successful!!!
When we arrived, there was one gal that had been there since noon. Of course, we started chatting, and she told us she had seen David and Patrick arrive around noon. They stopped and talked to her, which was really cool! The line began to get long around 5:00 PM, and the doors finally opened about 6:10. Since we had reserved seats, they showed us in pretty quickly. We had 3 seats together and 2 seats together. My Mom's friend is a high roller and she got the 3 seats. You had to be a diamond card holder to get those seats...which is sooo stupid!!!! I had called Harrah's and talked to an executive host. He was very nice and I explained to him that there were 5 people in my party, and could I possibly get two more high roller tickets. He met us at the back of Incahoots at 5:30 (after buzzing him on an intercom) and gave me 2 more tickets...thanks to Bob Thomas!!! Most of  David's fans were in the general admission section and you could tell that the High roller section people really didn't know much about David at all. Some did, some didn't. I hated the way they sold the tickets, the high roller seats were all free, and GA seats were $20.
Gail and I were in the 11th row, while Judi, Leigh, and Leslie were in the 7th row, but way off to one side. They were really worried, but I knew they would move up somehow! I spoke with one of the Harrah's employees, and she assured me that once the concert started, we would be able to move up into the empty high roller seats. Which is exactly what happened. Judi, Leigh, and Leslie got moved up to the third row on the other end, but they were a lot closer than before!! Then somehow, Leigh, Leslie and Judi moved up to the first row, don't ask me how, but they managed it, I think it is a trade secret!!! And then right before the concert started, about 5 minutes, this man came and stood right before me and Gail, (we were in the last row of high roller seats) and told us we could move up. You could have knocked us over with a feather, but not for long. We quickly grabbed our stuff and up we went to the third row, just to the left of the microphone. We had a spectacular view and could see the band and the whole stage. I like to sit back a little bit, so I can see what is going on, but not too far back.
On with the show!!! David came out, and you could tell he was overwhelmed by the response he got, I don't think he knew what kind of crowd to expect because he was playing in a country and western bar! Of course, we were all giving him the support and respect he deserves! He started with Heartbeat and this time I got the order of the songs right because I got half the song list from the stage and Judi grabbed the other half! These were great collector's items, some of the girls got them from the AC concerts. I digress!! Sorry....
He started with Heartbeat and the crowd went crazy, well, I should say his fans went crazy...the high rollers in the front were just staring at him and were not clapping, singing, or even moving. Just sitting there with their arms folded! And don't think David didn't notice! He went right into Summer Days with his usual enthusiasm.  Most of the his fans were in General Admission, but there were the few of us up in the high roller seats who were letting David know we were there! He looked right at me and pointed, as if to say, Hey I just saw you last weekend. I know he recognized us, how could he not? We were cheering and clapping and making all kinds of noise and he had just seen us at Atlantic City!!! One woman in front of us blew him a kiss, and he laughed!  As in AC, the more we screamed, the more he smiled and the better he sang and played. David's voice sounded topnotch! Amazing!
David then said Hello to the crowd in St. Louis. He said when he first got here this afternoon, and saw the building, he said he was puzzled. I'm sure he didn't know what to expect. He said, "I have played a lot of strange venues in my time, but this is the most unique place I have ever played!" And we all laughed, thank goodness he made a joke out of it. I was going to bring him a cowboy hat to wear on stage as a joke...I wish I would have...hind sight is always 20/20!!! He said hello to the fans way in the back and they all screamed! He did welcome everyone though and said something about the high rollers in the front, but I can't remember what!! Something about he takes what he can get. David is so tongue in cheek like that. I love his sense of humor.
He then strapped on his guitar, and the strap didn't quite go where it should have. He made a joke about it, saying something like I seem to have forgotten how to put this on and laughed. It is so great that David can laugh at himself. Then he began to play I'll Meet You Halfway, which is such a beautiful PF song. I really listened to the words and David seemed to be reaching out to all of us and trying to meet those fans way in the back halfway!!! He then did No Bridge, and I have never heard him sound so on! It seemed longer than AC, at least it seemed to be. Maybe because I was in the third row and I could see him move all over the stage and see everything he did! He didn't do the Hendrix bit before No Bridge this time, though. Then he needed a rest, and sat on the edge of the stage, pretending to play footsies with a woman in the front row (who of course could have cared less!) He talked about St. Louis a little bit then, how he was glad to be back as it had been 6 or 7 years. He had done Blood Brothers here at the Fox Theatre in 93, I think. He said it was great the way that St. Louis had put so much back into it's community. I do live here, so I know David is right. The city has been refurbishing itself for quite a number of years now. David said he had been to see Patrick in Aida on Wednesday night. For anyone interested, that is a Broadway Play, it was at the Fox Theatre all week. I digress again!!!
David talked about a valley somewhere in our past, and then starting singing Echo Valley. He closed his eyes (as there was no fan in the front) and sang it so clear and beautiful. I just sat there mesmerized. Nothing like a live performance to give a song special meaning!!! After thunderous applause from the fans and yes, even some of the high rollers were clapping, he stood up and talked about The Copa a minute and asked since some of us could not come to Vegas, would we mind if he did a few songs from The Copa? Of course not, David!!  So he did Tenderness in that unique way of his, and then we really went crazy! I love that song and the way David does it, is just the best! Then he introduced Candace and they did River Deep, Mountain High! I think every time they do that song, the snake wiggle dance at the end gets longer! I love to hear them sing that song, their voices are so strong and they can really hold those notes! I gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.
I should mention that during all the previously mentioned songs, David was having some trouble with the keyboards or something to the left of him. He kept giving a thumbs down as if something was too loud, and he couldn't seem to get it fixed. But David, being the professional he is, kept right on with the show. He would give an OK sign with his hand when whatever it was fixed. At one point, the microphone squealed and you could tell David was getting really frustrated. Eventually, though, the problem seemed to get fixed. Thank goodness!!!
Candace then did Rescue Me while David went backstage to change shirts. She has a voice, that girl. Everyone was singing along and bopping. We were all expecting David to come back out then, but Lon Bronson came out instead in a pair of sunglasses. He introduced himself as David's younger brother, Lonnie Cassidy!!! He sang Rawhide, which I thought was a riot. Of course, they were poking fun at the fact that Harrah's had put them in a Country & Western Nightclub. He finished, and we all clapped. Then David did come back out on stage, and he said, "That had to be the most embarrassing moment of his career!" After asking permission to do one more song from The Copa, he went over to Jacooba and said those now famous words, "Jacooba, give me a little something like this...." And Jacooba starts with that infectious beat of Mack the Knife, and we all start snapping our fingers without being told to. And David starts talking about those 60's coffeehouses and asks if anyone remembers them, saying he is the only one old enough in the room to remember...not with that crowd, David!!! Anyway, he asks for audience participation, and those high rollers still just SAT THERE!!! I knew it wouldn't be long before David said SOMETHING to them! He told them if they didn't start snapping their fingers, that he would shine a spotlight on them and embarrass them. At least they laughed, showing signs of life! David then started singing Mack the Knife. The energy that man puts into that song is unbelievable!! David is such a fabulous dancer and performer, I hope he knows how much we appreciate it.
Then David sat down and talked about Tony Romeo and how he wrote this song just for David. He talked about how he didn't want to sing it because it wasn't cool, and if he sang it, then he wouldn't be cool! But Tony convinced him that one day he would understand. And he began to sing I Am A Clown. Again, he closed his eyes and gave it a true clear sound. So beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes! Then he stood up and did Sing Me, another song written just for David by Tony Romeo, and the crowd was clapping along. A lot of them didn't know that song. But Judi did, and David sang it right to her, that lucky girl!!!! I love the Dreams LP, so many meaningful songs on that one!
David then looked off to the side of the crowd, and said, "Are you boys really gonna ride that bull?" More laughter. (There really is a mechanical bull there!) David then strapped on his guitar (this time he got it right), and played a little Hendrix, and then right into Lyin' To Myself, which has never sounded better! Then came Rock Me Baby and I got out of my seat and began to dance. Sorry, couldn't help it!!!  The fans were really enjoying themselves and getting ansy. By this time, I think David was wanting some adulation from the fans, so he said, "Let's get this party rockin'!" He didn't have to ask us twice, and we were all out of our chairs and down front so fast, those people in the front row never knew what happened! David said to them, "See, that's what happens when you don't participate!" or something similar, I can't remember his exact wording.
Now, here is where the story gets really interesting!!!! This woman that was sitting in front of Gail and I had never seen David live. (Who am I to talk, this was only my 5th time in my life, with 4 in the same week!)  Anyway, she was right at his feet to the left of him. Gail was next to her and I was next to Gail. So David started telling the fans that this is how he feels about us... and the first notes from Cherish ring out. David is bending over, giving hand holds, not just slaps. It was amazing, the reaction from the crowd. David must feel so much love during that song. He was doing the hand holding thing and when he got to me, he squeezed my hand, and he opened his eyes really big at me and smiled, as if to say thanks for being here and supporting me. That was my special David Moment!!! Then he moved on to Gail, and she had on her 'David shirt' that she made herself. It has a British Flag in sequins, a picture of David under the flag (from Old Trick New Dog). Right above the flag are the words that David bent way down to read!!! With the cutest little boy concentrated look on his face, he read, "David Cassidy Rocks My World". The crowd really cheered!!! David was holding Gail's hand and she said to him, "Come To England!", to which he replied, "Late Next Year", and moved on down the stage!
During one of the songs, another woman jumped up on the stage and raised her hands above her head, as if to say, "Look at me, I'm an idiot!!!" Security grabbed her before she even made a move for David!
He went along the stage, bending over (no wonder he has a bad back), continuing to hold hands. Cherish ended with all of us reaching our hands out to him. It was the best!! Then he put his guitar back on and did I Woke Up In Love This Morning. By now, the crowd was really into the concert, everyone was clapping and singing. David is standing not 2 feet from me. Remember the gal who had never seen David live? She was so bold!!! She kept reaching up David's leg with her hand farther and farther, as he was right at the end of the stage. I kept telling her that she was terrible and to stop it!!! David kept glaring at her, but I don't think she noticed! Finally, he said to her, "Watch it, baby, you're getting near the 'X-Zone!'" That slowed her down enough that David moved the microphone back. He looked at the band and said, "We're having a love-fest up here." I'm so glad he joked about it. Now, the horn section members were looking at this woman who was running her hands up David's leg and laughing. I just shook  my head at them (they were only 10 feet away) and mouthed, "She's awful". They nodded their heads in agreement. All the while this is going on, poor David is trying to sing I Woke Up....he did manage to finish. Then he started C'mon Get Happy. I love this number, as he introduces the band and tells a story in a sing song/percussion-driven Jazz style. And he improvises as he goes along, and when he introduces the band member, they play for a minute or two and David really gets into whatever they are doing. It is fun to watch him do that, and the audience gets a big kick out of David and whatever member he is introducing. When he finally gets to C'mon Get Happy, we are so ready for him to sing it!!! Everyone is clapping and having a good time (I don't know about the high rollers, they are long forgotten by now and behind me!). He ends the song and says, "Are you Ready?" We are at fever pitch now and scream, "YEAH!!!!" I Think I Love You begins and David is once again grabbing hands and moving along the stage.
He must have held my hand 5 or 6 times that night. Now, he is standing in the middle near the end of the stage and that crazy woman now has her hand around the back of his leg, and she almost tripped him!!! He stumbled backwards trying to get away from her.  By now, I am really upset with her!! I said to her, "you almost tripped him," but she didn't see it and she couldn't hear me. Anyway, he kept away from her after that! He went to the right side of the stage and gave the lucky girls in the front some special moments. I know he recognized Judi, Leigh,  and Leslie. He grabbed Judi's shoulder and squeezed it! He caressed the back of Leigh's head and told her, "you have to clap and sing along"! These are the moments that make a David Cassidy concert so hard to forget!!! Thank you David for all those moments. And for the life time of beautiful songs we consider treasured gifts!!! David ended the song in the middle of the stage with his arms outstretched! He thanked the audience, said "Goodnight" and went offstage. Of course, we all wanted an encore, and he did not disappoint us. He came back out and stood center stage (a hand's length away from the crazy lady) and began to croon Cry. I just put my head on my hands on the stage and looked up amazed at the concentration on his still gorgeous face while he was belting out the beautiful song. I think I was trying to burn the memory into my brain, and I think I succeeded.  David left the stage and we all were chanting, David, David, David...but I knew he wouldn't be back. The house lights came on telling us the concert had indeed ended! It was the perfect ending to a wonderful night...or so I thought.....
We hung out talking to people and security guards and employees from Harrah's. One man told us that Harrah's lost money every concert. I told him that maybe if they sold those High Roller tickets, that wouldn't happen!!  He also said that David flatly refused to do the meet and greets in St. Louis. We told him that David hated those things and we didn't care, we knew they were forced and phony. He said it was part of David's job though. We told him that his brother was in town and that is most likely the reason he refused in St. Louis. I think this guy was amazed at our loyalty to David. A different man who was a security guard was much nicer. He informed us Harrah's never loses money on anything...we knew that!!! He told us he had lunched with David and Patrick and it was interesting to listen to them talk about their show business experiences and similar problems. Of course, we all wanted to know what David had for lunch...did I mention we had turned into 13 year olds during the concert? He told us David had a turkey sub with Honey Dijon mustard and water.. and that David had ordered Merlot for dinner the night before.
Then we went to Harrah's to get a bite to eat. And eat we did and talk about the concert. One man of about 30 overheard us and asked if we had just come from the concert. Of course, we said! He asked what it was about David that made the women go so crazy. We all just smiled and said 'We have been fans for 30 years!!!" We took some pictures with David's poster, and then the girls wanted to gamble, so we all had to get gold cards just to go into the Casino. I am not a gambler at all, so I watched the girls and the people in the casino. We milled around there for a while, taking in the sights and we got separated. We found each other for the most part and we were standing at the entrance to the Casino, when Gail says really nonchalantly, "Here comes David and Patrick". We were all like, "Yeah, right, Gail..." and we turned around and sure enough, they were coming through the turnstiles with Robyn and Candace. David had on a white shirt and black jeans... I wish he could wear that during the concert!!! I am such a chicken, I turned around and stood behind some short slots with Leigh and watched as David walked right up to Gail, Leslie and Judi. Gail said, "Hello David" and she chatted with him for a few seconds, asking him again about England. I can't believe I didn't even say Hello to David!!! I was so surprised that he was there. Plus, I think it was the whole stalking thing... it seemed to me we were stalking him by going to Harrah's. So when he actually did show up, I felt like OMG, I don't want to bother him. He was with Patrick and Candace and Robyn. I just turned around and went to where Leigh already was. Then I thought, you idiot!!!! Go say Hi!!! When he started talking to Gail, I did go back over to the group... but by then, he was swaggering away... and I do mean swaggering!!! I waved at him! Waved, what an imbecile!! I should have told him..."welcome to St. Louis, Hicktown USA", and he would have laughed, I know!! I can't believe I froze... in my own town!!! The Man just does that to me!!! I just didn't want  to bug him with Patrick there. I didn't want to invade his space, I guess... I could also have told him how mortified I was when I found out that Harrah's had arranged for him to play at INCAHOOTS... David had no idea when he got there that it was a C & W bar! I should have brought that damn cowboy hat... that would have made him laugh... and I could just see him onstage with the stupid hat on his head, making a joke about it.  One day I will meet him and keep my head on straight.
Well, by this time, I am exhausted and ready to go home... Long day, up at 5 AM, getting everyone from the train station and the airport... We have seen David, can we please go now!!! The girls wanted to look for him in the casino... new energy flowing through their veins!!! They spotted him in the High Limits Room at a table, and since we couldn't go in, got a drink at the bar near there. So I excuse myself and go to the ladies room. Finally, they are ready to leave and we head towards the entrance of the casino. Out we go and we are almost all together, but wait... where are Leigh and Judi? I turn around to look for them and what do I see? David and Patrick walking about 10 yards behind us. With Leigh and Judi right behind them.  (Leigh had seen them and told Judi to look at the ceiling which was painted like a sky... I know you fooled them with that one Leigh, LMAO!!!) We are waiting for Leigh and Judi to catch up with us, feigning interest in some car giveaway. I turn around to see where they are and David and Patrick are saying good-bye with a Blood Brother handshake and then a hug that is so sweet! David disappears down into the parking garage... hopefully to a waiting limo to take him to the airport and away from all these crazed fans!!!
At this point, I am so tired, I think I must be dreaming! Now Patrick is walking right towards us... this is too much... I am thinking to myself!!! Gail (the brave one) begins to talk to him. Patrick is very friendly and open, he has not been through what David has been through with his fans! (Yet!) Anyway, he is telling us about Aida, the Broadway Play he is in. He tells us that it is a much bigger production than David's show... a little friendly competition going on there!!! And for us to come and see it. Gail tells him we have tickets for Friday night! He says, "Come backstage and say hello after the show." Just like that!!! Patrick is very tall and good looking. He tells us he has been working out for the show. Or maybe it was the security guard, I can't remember, my brain is turning to mush at this point!! We finally say goodnight to him and come home. Of course, we tried to stay up all night talking. Most of us slept, but I didn't. Too much excitement!!!
After taking Leigh and Leslie to the airport at 5, Gail at 9, and Judi to the train station at 1, I was exhausted. I came home and slept until I had to get ready to go to Aida. We really did have tickets!! Julie (my 17 year old daughter) went with me as Judi had to get home. We arrived a little late, but we hadn't missed more than 2 minutes. It was an awesome show!!! If you have a chance to see it, don't miss it! The music is written by Elton John and Tim Rice and it was brilliant. The dancing was superb. The singing was first rate and so was the acting. Patrick was fabulous in it... looking very handsome and when he had to take off his shirt... you could tell indeed that he had been working out!!!  At one point he had on a white shirt (top) that tied in the front with strings... sound familiar???? What a weekend!! Julie had her prom the next day, so I didn't want to go backstage... I really don't know if we could have... but it was really nice of Patrick to invite us!!!
Hope you all are still awake and you enjoyed this story!!!

MAY 23 - 24 (LAUGHLIN, NV)

Well, I just returned from the hottest week I have ever spent..  Just seeing David made it even hotter!  We left Los Alamitos at 8am Wednesday, & arrived at Laughlin at about 1pm, after driving through the most desolate desert I'd ever seen,  We checked into Tower 1 of Harrah's, then picked up the tickets for the show.  They told me on the phone that my seats were in row DD (4TH ROW), but when I got there, they were printed up as VV.  After a fre moments of quiet persuasion, they moved me up to row BB for Weds & CC for Thursday.  What luck!
It was sweltering by mid-day (114) & only climbing.  I was hoping that it would go down, but by show-time, it was still 107.  I dressed in my coolest outfit for the show, & my parents & I left for the amphitheater at 7:30,  Other audience members were moving up to the first row, so I joined Joyce.
SUE & BEAU arrived a few moments later  & sat in the row behind us.  While Sue caught up with a friend, I asked BEAU about his baseball team & he enthusiastically told me about how well his team did in the finals.  He played 2nd base through the whole season & made a bunch of great catches!  He was so excited about his baseball that it reminded me of how all of his dad's
fans talk about David!
DAVID wore the same purple satin shirt throughout the entire show, as it was too hot to peel off in the short break that CANDICE sang her song.  She & DAVID had so much personality & sex appeal during RIVER DEEP MOUNTAIN HIGH!
The audience High Roller seats filled up, so I went back to the second row, with SUE & BEAU right across the aisle from me.  SUE was clapping along with all the songs, & I caught BEAU singing along with his dad on LYING TO MYSELF!
I loved the blues-like band intos & how it blended into C'MON GET HAPPY, which was jazzed up!  It sounded great!  I also loved the story that went along with it, about how he recorded the song in 18 minutes  between scenes on the PF, then never heard it again.  This was the age before VCRS, & he was always working & touring on Fridays!  So when people started stopping him on the street to sing it to him, he couldn't remember  the song!
At the end, during I THINK I LOVE YOU, I raced to the stage & his eyes lit up for a brief second, & he said, Hi darlin! We stayed at the edge of the stage as he sang CRY as a finale!

Thurs morning, we woke up & decided to go to the mall nearbye.  It was an outlet mall unfortunately, so I wasn't able to get my film developed. Came back &  spoke to the Human Resources Dept about arranging to get a show poster to Auction off for the Leukemia Society.  She told me to come back before I checked out & she'd see what she could give me. Spent the rest of the afternoon at the River Rapids Casino.  They put together a Senior Citizens dance line, featuring past & present Mrs Senior NV
winners.  It was interesting!
When we got back, Joyce brought little David to the room to bring a video for me to add to, & I started getting ready for the show.  I was going by myself Thurs night, so all bets were off!  I moved to the first row & stayed there! The audience was just as small, but even more enthusiastic.  Suzanne Crough was there, but I didn't say hi to her.
David learned his lesson from Weds night.  He wore a long-sleeved cotton men's shirt for the first half & changed into a short sleeved fitted cotton T- which really showed off his chest!!! A few ladies screamed "Take it all off!"  Later, he told a joke about being naked in the desert & finding a genie in a lamp.  The genie gave his ex-wife twice what David got:  First 2 wishes: $10million & a new mansion in Beverly Hills.  The last wish: Beat Me half to death! (Wonder which wife he was thinking about!)
The coolest part of the evening was when he ripped into a few lines of "Purple Haze," but twisting the first line to the oft-mis-heard lyric "Kiss that Guy" (the second time was sung right: "kiss the sky". Joyce got into the act, but I'll let her tell it.

Hi everyone!

Guess you thought I melted in the desert huh? *LOL*
Anyway, on to my exciting DC news I just have to share with you guys! Before we left for Vegas, I was teasing Mike that David was playing in Laughlin the night we were in arriving and if he wasn't nice to me then I was going to run away thru the desert and spend my weekend with David instead! *LOL*   I was really only half joking, I didn't think I had any chance of getting to Laughlin knowing how much Mike likes Vegas so I told myself I would see him in L.A. soon anyway so I shouldn't pout.
Well my crazy husband tells me he is taking me to Lake Meed for our first night there, rents a car and before I know it we drive way past the Lake cut off.  I said "Hey where are we going? Wasn't that the Lake exit?"  He says "Oh well, I had a better idea, how would you like to see see David Cassidy for your birthday instead?"  I litterally screamed so loud with excitement I swear the coyotes could hear me! *LOL*  Mike even covered his ears in anticipation waiting for the yelp of excitement, it was too funny!
So best part is, tickets were only $19.70 and I charmed my way thru the ticket sale by saying I was this huge David fan who saw him  in Atlantic City last month and that it was my birthday and I really wanted to see David up close and personal.  Before I knew it she gave me a EE ticket at the aisle center stage 5 rows from David that  I felt he was in my living room, it was so cool!
The show was great, so much engery.  David was so personable, told jokes, danced around, complained about the heat (almost 113 degrees) and seemed so greatful we were sweating along with him! *L*  He even said at one point, "hey what if I died tonight, can you imagine ET tomorrow? What great publicity!"  <LOL>  He was great, a true performer, sang Jimi's "Kiss the Sky" this time, whaled on that guitar, really had us dancing in the aisles. Even the old people who got in for free were clapping and cheering along! I rushed the stage for ITILY again and got to shake his hand again (only once this time, but it was a long hold so that was cool) The whole night was great. David is a class act for sure!
The best part was after the show when I lined up by the side stage with the die hard fans.  Robyn came out to announce David was doing his Meet and Greet and had to leave, no autographs please. Most people groaned and walked away.  About 6 of us were left, I moved closer, Robyn did a double take and said "Hey, I met you before didn't I? Didn't we meet in Atlantic City, you're from Canada right?"  I nodded and smiled profusely.  She continues "I got your email for the picture request but just didn't have
the time to mail it to you yet. Wait here just one second k?"  She leaves and comes back with a brown envelope and pulls out a 8 by 10 headshot of David and it was signed in black marker!  At first I thought it was a rubber stamp signature like the old Tiger Beats, but later I compared it with the guy next to me who had the exact picture from a previous meeting and sure enough it was REAL! I couldn't have been more thrilled!  I thanked her more times then I could remember and stepped back to admire my new
find, chatting with the die hard fans about the concert and David's career in general.
Sure enough, about 20 minutes later a big white car slows down to leave the backstage parking and one girl says "I wonder if that is David leaving?" We all stood there staring at the car and suddenly the backened window rolls down and David himself pops his head out extending his arm to us waving and shouts with a big smile "thanks for coming everyone, see you next time".   We all wave back with our own various "thanks David....great show....you're the best" chants and off the car goes.  It was like a dream,
happening all so fast.
Then as we walk down the ramp to leave one of the fans says "hey, look who is coming, do you know who that is?"  I look again, its Tracy Partridge herself!  Suzanne Crough and her two daughters are approaching us walking with us like she was a fan of David's too, it was cool. Such a nice lady, so down to earth and sweet I had to keep reminding myself this was a real life celebrity from the Partridge Family!  I was dying to ask for an autograph, but was too chicken so I just walked and talked to her as did the other 5 of us and we headed back into Harrahs with her and her kids, it was so cool!
We drove back to Vegas for the remainded of the weekend. I ended up winning over $200 on one pull of a nickel machine and managed to catch the "Rat Pack is Back" show before I left too. As I said, best birthday I can remember in years! I just had to share it with you guys, hope I didn't bore you with the sorted details, sorry if I was too longwinded as usual. :0)

Talk soon, thanks again for your kind wishes, you guys are the best!

I thought it was going to be a cheap, easy trip to Laughlin since I got a free room, etc., but it wasn't.  I drove to Barstow Tuesday night (about 2/3 of the way) and spent the night.  I started the van Wednesday and it was shaking.  I didn't know what it was but had to get to Laughlin to see David so I drove it.  Then the engine light came on so I decided to turn around and drive back to Barstow since there is no place to stop after that.  I went to a gas station who said I was driving on 5 cylinders instead of 6 and it would probably need a part which he may not have until the next day (it ended up costing me $500).  He asked if I needed to get to Laughlin that day.  Of course the answer was yes since that was the day of David's concert.  So I rented a car.  This all delayed me a couple of hours but was still able to get there before David arrived.  Not that it did me much good, because his driver just drove him right into the amphitheater.  There were a whole 5 of us waiting!   We watched a little bit of the sound check through the fence.  David was wearing shorts.  He said he was cutting out "Sing Me" because the concert was running too long.  Silly man, his concerts are never too long!!!  When some band members were leaving, they told us that "Sing Me" would probably be in Thursday's show, but it wasn't.  I got to Wednesday's concert early although I'm not sure why because it was pretty empty when I got there.  The audience was very different from the audience there in November.  In November it was very crowded and lively and everyone was standing in the aisles talking.  This time people were spread all over with a lot of empty seats and people weren't moving or talking.  It was like a funeral!  When I originally bought my tickets, I was told I was in the bleachers because all the floor seats were being held for the high rollers.  They opened up some floor seats for regular people, so I was able to change them two weeks before.  I was still in the 14th row and they told me I could move up just before the concert starts if there are empty seats. I moved up to the front row center section to the right along with some friends.  Sue and Beau sat behind us.  Beau was enthusiastically discussing baseball.  The concert started and about two songs later, a group of people came and wanted those seats so I moved to the left section, front row.  In between songs, David talked about the Rio show and the guy behind me said he
loved it so David told him to come up and shake his hand which he did.  David said it was 135 degrees.  I'm sure it felt like that under those lights.  He talked about "I Am a Clown" and said that he thought he was too cool for it and that the song was lame but Tony Romeo said it was HIM.  Now David agrees.  He sang "I Am a Clone" once but apologized to Tony for messing it up!  A
couple went up to the stage and a girl gave him flowers and asked him for his sweaty towel so he gave it to her.  He said "Cherish" was the most requested song on his website.  He did not change his shiny purple shirt because he couldn't peel it off because his was sweating so much!  So he left it untucked during the rest of the show.
The next night I ran into Suzanne Crough with her husband and kids just outside the theater.  I spoke to her briefly and she asked how the baby is doing.  I was lucky enough to find a lonely single seat in the front row in the center section.  It's funny that Suzanne was in the row I was supposed to be in.  When he talked in between songs he said it was 105 the night before and it was the slowest mid week of the year.  He said he was driving around Laughlin and he noticed all the trailer parks.  He said to his driver that those are mighty big trailer parks.  In a wonderful hillbilly accent he said the driver said "You should see them come Saturday, they'll be packed".  So David wondered why he was there on a Wednesday night!  He wore a white, cotton dress shirt and said he chose it because his shirt stuck to him the night before.  Halfway through he changed to a tight, white short-sleeved shirt.  He sang part of "Purple Haze".  I worked up my nerve to hand him a towel!  He asked if there was a note in it.  I said no.  I wasn't prepared to say anything.  He said "Is that your final answer?"  I told him I just thought he could use it.  I should have said that I wanted his sweat but didn't say it.  He said it was sweet of me and that it comes with a toothpick.  I don't know where he got the toothpick but it wasn't there before.  He never gave me the towel back (he put in on the stage next to his water) so I asked the stagehand for it after the show.  He said it's not his to give.  I kept telling him it's mine, but another fan was trying to get him to give it to her instead.  He went to talk to somebody and then gave it to me!  It was a fantastic concert!

We left home at 5am on Tuesday. Stan was so excited he wanted to leave the night before but we are not good night drivers and so we waited. Stan was really pretty good. He woke up much earlier then I did and let me sleep. We actually left his mother's house about 5:30. It was an 8 hour drive this time-- good conditions. It is an hour earlier in Laughlin.
I insisted that before we got our room set up, we go ahead to Harrah's to get our tickets. If we could get an upgrade in seats, I was going to get it ASAP. Well, there weren't any upgrades. They said it was just about sold out for both nights and we were lucky to be on the floor at all. The seats they said were left were up in the top end of the bleachers. We went back and got our rooms and I was sad because I just knew I could get better seats. We showed Stan's Mom many casinos, shopped and had a generally good time.
I decided that since the rehearsal last time started sometime before 3pm in November, that I should get there by 2 pm. Actually, we didn't get there until 2:30 but that was fine---the rehearsal wasn't until much later--I think around 4pm, and it was very short. I had taken my gift basket for David Cassidy to the rehearsal and sent Stan off to get me better tickets. He told them the only tickets I would be satisfied with would be right on stage with David but we had no luck, they said it was a sell out for both
nights. Stan found some important people for the casino but they still couldn't help. Anyway, I was the first to wait for the rehearsal but was joined by a lady and a fellow from California (forget their names) and later, Joyce, also from California and her baby. She apparently does get on the chat lines sometimes. I talked a lot to the guard, seems he had a back injury and was going to go for rehab so, I was in my element (I'm a vocational rehabilitation counselor) and figured, let's try every and any angle possible--it might help.
Anyway, he was very nice. I asked him about getting my basket to DC and he said he would take it to the stage manager for me and then he changed his mind and said, how about I go get the stage manager for you and you can give it to him. The stage manager's name is Kevin, soft spoken guy, very nice and he promised he would take my basket and put it in DC's dressing room. He shook my hand and was off but I felt that this was as good as I would get. The security guard pointed out the rooms that David would be in. Top of the first tower--way up. I didn't figure there was any way to even try. I was pleased that my basket would be in a dressing room.
Well, we waited in the heat for hours. We saw a long white limousine enter the other gate--I presume it was David--dark windows prevented seeing. At 4pm, the first guard left and a new one came. He stayed for a while but I guess he decided we were not a scary bunch and he left. After a while, Kevin came and said we couldn't stand in the shade of the bleachers inside the gate and he asked where the guard was. I told him that he left--cause he did. Kevin then closed and locked that gate. He was nice about it. We moved to another gate he evidently didn't know about in the back with a better view anyway.
The first night it was a whopping 105 degrees for the concert. At the rehearsal they complained that they were melting---and we WERE. The ladies sang a bit, David sang a bit--he was in shorts and T-shirt and sun glasses and kidded the band about trying to play in tune for him this time. He said that the concerts were running long and they were going to have to cut 'Sing Me'. One of the ladies with me screamed out for him not to, please, and he hollered out---"Who said that?", and we waved from behind the fence and he hollered back, "Hi sweetie!". Soon after, the rehearsal ended--David said it sounded good--he didn't last time at Laughlin. Last time there was a buzz he didn't like but it was also cooler and then they left.
I saw Robin briefly. Didn't get to talk to her. I waited for the gates to open at 7pm. I'm sure they thought I was crazy. It was baking and I was sure I would be beet red with sunburn---I burn very easily--I burn on my walks during lunch that are much shorter and much cooler-but I wasn't leaving. The others went away.
During my several hour's vigil at the gate, Stan brought me several mega sodas which I drank totally each time, and a burger. Yes, I could have gone in, but I didn't. This was important---even if nothing happened---and it didn't. Something could have happened. The first concert, my mother in law came with us. Stan and Mary Kaye drank $4 beers. I was waiting in the seats.
We were 20 rows back in row VV to the side. Actually, not bad seats. The concert started after 8pm--a little late.
OK, here's where it gets sad. (Don't get too sad--it gets better--the next night). I bet half the seats weren't filled. Their sell out was filled with seats given away to high rollers, people who won big jackpots that day, people who took a tour of some development they were building, etc. Actually, it made me mad because their staff kept saying to me "Why did you buy tickets---we are giving them away and better ones then yours". They gave away I would guess, most of the tickets to some of the oldest people you have ever seen on this earth. Don't get me wrong, I like older people but we aren't talking people in their 60's, no, we are talking about people that must hold longeivity records for the world, many of them. When they discovered that the concert was outside in 105 heat, they went back inside. Really old people and extreme heat are not a good thing.
Anyway, there were lots of seats ahead of me but no way to get to them. There were plenty of really old people who do not move to let you by here. Our seats were good. Well, David comes on to a half filled house. It is hot as HELL in the stadium--I was sweating puddles so you either stuck to your seat or you floated out of it and there is no way he could miss that the crowd isn't there. He wore the red glittery shirt he did at the other concerts but in no time, it is glued to his body--same as the rest of us but he had no business being in black pants and long sleeved shirt in that heat. I was really worried about him. There was no 'Sing Me', he didn't do many jokes, and there was little audience response to his songs. I was in a section that was filled with people that I am sure were dead. OK, they were breathing, barely--but just barely. They didn't even clap politely--they just sat there, these really old people. The lady next to me asked if I knew all the songs he was singing and I said "YES" and I was singing and clapping and trying so hard. I asked her if she knew any of his songs. She did not. I asked if she knew who he was--she said they told her that he was on TV in the 70's and she pulled out her tickets and pointed to the name. She was seeing David Cassidy. She had no clue. I just said 'UH HUH' and was so sad. She was nice enough, really, she got a freebie and she didn't even know who it was.
David danced and worked so hard in the heat. He shouldn't have worked so hard but he dances and went down on his knees and did it all. He was great, the audience was not so good and the fans were, in the back. When he got to I think I love you, we couldn't get up to the stage and even if I had, the security guard (another one) seemed to think people shouldn't be up there so, that didn't seem to go well either. I really believe David saw this--I saw his expression. I stayed in my seat. Stan was so mad when the concert was over. Oh yeah, David left the stage at one point, where he would have changed shirts but decided not to change shirts. There was no point. He did return for "Cry" but most of the people were already getting up to leave. You can't blame them, it was really hot and no breeze. The air was stagnant. I was mad and sad too. I was so afraid he would think that people didn't
care and that he wouldn't get booked again due to this. He did great. He sang his heart out. Sue and Beau were there somewhere---I didn't see them but he announced they were there. He didn't do the Jimmy Hendrix thing or the jokes (other then--"do you remember this--apparently not." He commented on the heat several times and thanked the audience for being there in the heat. Old people should not have been out there. That was scary. There were people our age and a few kids. It wasn't all old age record breakers. But it was sad because there were people going to the ticket counter wanting to get tickets free or otherwise and they were being told no, they couldn't go. It was a sell out with half the seats or more empty. It broke my heart.
I am going to write Coca Cola (diet version was the sponsor and tell them it is great that they are sponsoring David---I am going to write another letter or e-mail to Harrahs and thank them but also tell them they did a terrible disservice to a tremendous performer and that their staff, unintentionally were very insulting to those of us that actually paid to come to the concert. I could come to Harrahs for a lot of years but not if I am treated like I was). I really think Harrah's was lucky some poor old person, or several
didn't die in that heat. David got a vase with one rose in it that he made a big deal out of saying it was romantic and what else was going on there. Someone gave him a flower lei.
Next day, more shopping, some gambling---I think I came out about even on slots. That's good enough and I went back for rehearsal about 3pm. I asked the guard when they were rehearsing---the same nice one from the day before and he said that it wouldn't be until 4pm he heard and probably not as long as the day before as they were fully set up from the day before. The
rehearsal did not happen. I think if they did anything, they must have set sound levels based on the day before and from music they were playing from a tape. Seems a lot of the band/staff went home the day before as they all live in Las Vegas. That's 1.5-2 hours away I guess, maybe less. But, they shut down the road back and they had trouble getting back so, all I can guess is that they didn't get back in time for a rehearsal. They seemed all to be there for the concert. David probably arrived in a black Nissan about an hour and a half before the concert going through that same prior gate. This time, I was the only person hanging out for the rehearsal--and it didn't happen. Lots of cokes again were drunk while I watched for anything to happen. Nothing happened. The Nissan was followed quite closely by a white car and the gate closed quickly after that. I wondered if David drives a black Nissan
and maybe he drove his own car in so that he could drive home afterward. There was no limo this time.
Stan and I went to the second concert alone and out tickets were row VV (about 20 back) but absolute center. It was hotter the second night. I was told it was between 113 and 115 depending on your source. There was however, a nice, very hot breeze but even that helped. I saw Kevin and asked about my basket. He didn't know if David liked it or not but said he knew that he had
opened it which means--he got my card and whether he liked the contents or not, he had to know that I tried and gave him something unique. Most people would at least recognize the thought anyway. All the food items were absolutely sealed so, hopefully, he felt safe about them. Chocolate would not have made it. People were melting. I think chocolate has a lower melting point then people. Kevin did not seem to be in a great mood or maybe he was just busy or had been worried that the stage folks
weren't going to make it. He wasn't rude or anything but maybe distracted was a better descriptor. Anyway, he didn't care about my basket and I understand that and he was busy.
The second night's crowd I think was even smaller then the first but these people, even the old ones, moved and bustled about. They talked to each other and there was some animation. There were more younger people--30's 40's, 50's. There seemed to be more energy despite the much higher heat. The floor was still half empty and the bleachers even more empty but Stan and I though this was a better crowd and it was. David came on and seemed much more 'on' the second night. He told lots of jokes, referenced frequently that he couldn't remember the words anymore because he had heat stroke from the night before, had Alzheimer's (maybe not the best crowd for that one---we did have a lot of old people even still the second night). He talked about the heat a lot and said we were all in it together--he was hot, he figured we were too. He said he heard a lot of us were afraid he would die in the previous night's heat and certainly the drummer would, but they didn't. The second night, he came out in a long sleeved white cotton shirt that he said was old and frayed but that he had to have the red one, what he called his professional performer costume cut off with a razor blade as it melted to him the night before. I think it just got sweat stuck. When it was time to change shirts, he came back in a ribbed, white, short sleeved undershirt I think (maybe a T-shirt but I think an undershirt). I liked it better then the professional outfit. It was more informal, it was personal and I felt like he would be OK. He should have been in shorts like the rest of us but he kept the black pants.
People kept yelling for him to take the shirt off and I am sure he heard this, you could see his head swing around in response to it but he said nothing. A couple of these requests came from girls but some came from guys--guys for their girls or else there was something else going on there. Then the guys started yelling that he should get naked, that we all should---several times but David didn't say anything. This is not a crowd that you would want to see naked. It was not long before David was sweat soaked in both shirts. I really liked the informality better. David thanked everyone for coming out to Saudi Arabia for the concert (referencing the
heat). He also talked about the smaller crowd and thanked us for being there, in the heat in what he found out was the slowest week of the year at Laughlin. Memorial Day weekend is a huge sell out and he said he didn't understand why they booked him during their slowest week when he could have been there for the weekend when people could have come. He also said that maybe 60 people (making fun of the low turn out) from Las Vegas didn't get to come either due to the road being shut down but then said, he liked that it was more intimate this way and if you were there, you really must have wanted to be cause it was---113. Remember that with the lights, it was even hotter on stage.
He didn't short us the dancing or the moves. We got lots of jokes, stories, we got Jimi Hendrix music (still no 'Sing Me'), we got sitting on the stage (both shows). One joke he told us was that he was out in the desert about 2 miles away walking naked. This got screams. He stopped and looked at us (bunch of perverts I guess). He tried it again saying he was naked in the desert and got the same screams. We liked naked a lot. The joke was cute too. This crowd was responsive. When he got to Mack the Knife and asked us to snap our fingers (he gave up on the first crowd) we  immediately responded and he did the spotlight reference. He was going to show people not doing it and said, anybody not snapping their fingers were going to get a call from him later---so we all stopped and he said, wait a minute, that's not right, we would get a call from his lawyer. We started snapping again.
Anyway, this was a fun, yelling crowd, David seemed in very good spirits and responded to us even though it was way hotter then the night before. This time, when he sang 'I think I love you', I saw no security guard pushing away people from the stage (he wasn't mean--I'm sure he though he was doing what he was supposed to) and Stan took my hand and we went up. I tried to touch
his hand but it wasn't my turn this time. Stan however got a nice, firm handshake so I was thrilled for him. I watched him so close as he finished 'I think I love you' and then 'Cry' (they told the audience not to leave this time--thankfully). He was so gorgeous. So beautiful and it was so wonderful. He got a flower lei this concert too--he told the audience they needed to wait a minute for him as he was getting leid (laid). This was a great concert! Stan and I both loved it. We loved both of them but the second one---that was the best one. He said that his touring was largely due to the response he got at Laughlin and AC the first time around and he
thanked us for that. So, all of you can also thank us that endured extreme cold and now heat for bringing him to you other folks (just kidding). Robin had some posters of the concert that she took back to him. I think they were for people working the concert to get autographs. I don't know for sure---that is what I heard. Well, then we went back to our room and went to sleep.
Well, that is the concert news. I don't know what other people think about it or what they might already be saying on the chat lists about it. There were people who wanted tickets to the second concert also that couldn't get them because it was 'sold out'. That is sad. People who wanted to go, some of them couldn't, people who could care less either got free tickets and didn't go or went and were for the most part, non responsive. I think David was happy with the second concert. Maybe someone explained that old people and intense heat didn't work and it wasn't personal at all.
The temps at Laughlin were record breaking---they did not expect them to be this high, so it sort of wasn't their fault completely. They should have had the concerts for the weekend. It would have been full. I would be interested to see what other people thought. Maybe others weren't sitting in the 'dead people' section.
