October 5: Aurora, IL

Hi,
I will try not to ramble here, but I had such a fantastic time, I don't think that will be possible!  Well I flew out of Denver on Saturday morning and I was so darn nervous.  Both about seeing David and having to drive from the Chicago airport to Aurora.  I printed a map and directions from Yahoo, and they were exceptionally accurate.  I got to my hotel with no problem at all and I never got lost once.  When I pulled into the hotel parking lot, Charmaine was waiting for me in her truck.

We took our things into the hotel and then went to look for some dinner.  We thought we had plenty of time, it was only about 5:30 or 6:00.  Well evidentally, Aurora residents don't EAT, because we couldn't find a restaurant anywhere.  We went back to our hotel to see if they had a restaurant but they didn't.  They recommended a bar down the street about 2 blocks, so we decided to walk there.  BIG MISTAKE.  The bar took FOREVER to bring our order, and we were getting very nervous, because it was 7:00 and we still didn't have our food, and we still had to get dressed!  So we asked for it "to go" and we literally ran down the street back to our room, with our dinner in a bag!  Put it in the little refrigerator... throw our clothes on... put on our David pins (yes we wore them Lyn!!) and we're ready to roll.

The theatre is only about 2 1/2 blocks away, but we drive because we're kinda late.  Well of course there's a huge line for the valet parking.  What do you know, we found a parking meter about a block away.  Throw in 2 quarters and RUN down the street to the Paramount.  The marquee says "Heartthrob David Cassidy October 5th."

Outside lots of girls are talking and hanging around.  I see Mishy and Nancy right away, and Barbie is right next to them, so as I yell out to Nancy, Barbie realizes who I am (really great to meet you Barbie!).  We go inside and check out the table of t-shirts for sale.  They're $30.  OMG!

Next I see Janie, HOW COOL, I haven't seen her in so long!  She is with Judi and Dawn and Chris.  We all introduce each other and then I need to find Donna.  Pretty soon I see her (that's not easy in a crowd, she's kinda small!)  We scream and hug each other and then decide we better get to our seats.  Everybody is kinda pissed because there's a barrier between us and
David, but that's because of the big orchestra pit, which was very deep.  That's OK, I'm in the FRONT ROW and I'm right next to Donna....this is so great!

A little after 8:00 the lights go dim and everybody starts SCREAMING...but it's a warm up act with some comedian! Bummer, but I have to admit, he was pretty funny.  He wasn't on too long, and then we had to wait AGAIN for the lights to dim, and this time it was HIM, the MAN, David.  He wore the light blue silky shirt, which was soaked with sweat almost immediately.

David was in a fantastic mood, laughing and smiling continuously, and paying a lot of attention to the front row, where I happened to be!  He encouraged everyone to "come down and rock" with him, which the security guards did not like at all.  They tried to get people to sit down but they just wouldn't.  I was so glad that I saw flashes going off, because they had announced "no photography" but nobody listened.  I took a whole roll of David pics on a throw away camera and they came out exceptionally well for a little junky camera!

The concert was over way too soon, but we all knew what was next.  The Meet & Greet was across the street, so there was a big crowd heading over there.  It seemed like everybody at the concert was going to the M&G!  There were a LOT of people there waiting for David.  We were wondering how he could possibly meet with all of these people.

There was a movie camera and a lady interviewing various people.  We went and sat at a table near the camera.  I don't know why we decided to sit there but thank God we did.  Nancy got interviewed.

When David arrived, he was with Lon Bronson and he went directly to the camera and was asked a few questions.  Then he started around the room, and we happened to be the first people he turned to!  First Nancy got to get her thrills, David commented on her shirt and hugged her and was really so sweet. Then I said "now you have to tell him WHO made you that shirt Nancy" and she said that I did, and David said "well thank you!" and then he came to me (OMG, my heart is pounding just writing this!)

I can't believe I was face to face with him.  I had my 1972 program, which he laughed at.  I said "The show was wonderful" and he said "thank you so much" and then I said "I love you so much David" and he hugged me and KISSED MY NECK and said "I love you too!"  He was so sweet (sorry, I forgot to sniff him) and then he tried to move on, but there was just a huge crowd of people all around.  I think this may have intimidated him, as shortly after that he kinda disappeared.  Not many people got to talk to him, and NOBODY got autographs.

After that I don't know how long we stayed there, both Nancy and I were going OMG, did that just happen, and most other people were just plain mad that they didn't get a chance with David.

We went back to our hotel room and Mishy, Nancy & Barbie came over for awhile.  Nancy and Mishy had to head back home, and Barbie had to find her hotel, but we still chatted until quite late.  I think Charmaine and I got to sleep around 3 a.m.

Next day, it's all over, and it's time to fly back home.  What a wonderful trip.  I will never forget this one, the 17th time I've seen David and I finally got to actually meet him.  Plus meeting Nancy and Barbie and Judi...that was so great.

When I got home I started crying, telling Norm about my adventure.  He said he was so glad I finally got to meet David, and wasn't mad at all about the $100.  I knew he wouldn't be.

Thank you:  Charmaine, Nancy, Mishy, Barbie, Janie, Judi & Donna.  I had a blast.  Donna, I don't know where you disappeared to but I never saw you after we got to the M&G.  It was sure wonderful to see you again after almost 2 years.  Charmaine, thanks for staying with me.  What a night!!

Love Carol

October 12: Washington, DC

I just got back from the Washington DC concert and DC was awesome! He was in a fantastic mood. He took 2 little girls from the audience and asked them questions. They were both 9 years old and one of them asked him if he was 45. LOL He made some funny faces and said "yes". It was so cute. Then a fan got up on the stage and started dancing next to him while he was singing and security grabbed her, she was stupid because it was in the beginning of the concert and I guess she got tossed out. Security was tight they wouldn't let anyone near the stage but the last 3 songs they gave up and we were all up there. He shook my hand 3 times. They were strict about cameras too, but I did manage to get 5 good pics. At intermission they announced that they were going to take cameras, so I put mine away. I usally get a whole roll, this was the strictest I saw
about cameras.

It wasn't scary walking around, I thought it would be, but there were hundreds of people there. It was mobbed, so I wasn't scared at all. I even walked to the White House and got some pics.

David thanked everyone for being brave and coming. It looked like it was 3/4 full. He said he understood why some didn't come.

Had a fantastic time glad I went.

David Cassidy, certified hot daddy, meets the mommies - and lives

By David Segal
THE WASHINGTON POST

Oct. 14 -  An amusing little war broke out Saturday night at the Warner Theatre and it wasn't a fair fight. On one side were two mild-mannered security officers with a mandate to keep the aisles clear. On the other side: A wide-eyed horde of fortyish women loaded on red wine, some waving concert tchotchkes from their youth, all of them hellbent to touch the hand, foot or garment of former teen idol David Cassidy.

THE LADIES WON In a rout. The skirmish turned lopsided early in the show, after a fan in a yellow shirt rushed the stage and Cassidy leaned over, mid-song, and clasped her outstretched palm. That was it. Dozens of women were soon racing out of their seats, hopping up and down, woo-hooing to lung capacity and dancing with their cameras. You haven't seen so much determination in a crowd since the zombies got the upper hand in "Dawn of the Dead."
Never underestimate the power of nostalgia, especially when it is mixed with cheap merlot. David Cassidy - all 125 pounds of him - was the biggest, most screamed-about pop star in the world for a few years starting in 1970. He sold out Madison Square Garden, moved millions of records and a couple of Kmarts' worth of merchandise: pens, gum, lunchboxes, posters, coloring books. It started, and pretty much ended, with the four-year run of "The Partridge Family," a sitcom about a family pop band that squabbled good-naturedly, rehearsed in a garage and traveled to performances in a colorful bus.

FLASH-FROZEN FOR THE FANS
That was a long time ago, but it could have been last Friday, judging from the ardent, though less-than-capacity, crowd at the Warner. It was as though everyone in the building had thawed out the eighth-grade, tummy-hurting passion felt for Cassidy decades ago and then discovered that this flash-frozen ecstasy is thrillingly fresh. David-induced love, it turns out, is oddly impervious to time.
"I think he's the reason I moved to America," said Heather Sanderson, during the show's intermission. She was standing in the lobby with a worn-looking David Cassidy scarf wrapped around her neck and a couple of vintage concert programs clutched in her hands. One of them is from a show in England, where she grew up.
"When I was 12, I decided, 'I'm going to move to California,' " she recalled, attributing that decision to her regular viewing of "The Partridge Family," which ran on the BBC on Saturday mornings. And move to California is precisely what she did, though she has since relocated to Northern Virginia, where she teaches drama.
"I used to just lie there on the couch listening to David Cassidy. And you know the old record players, they'd just play and play and play, and I'd just lie there listening to that song 'Could It Be Forever,' swearing that he was really saying, 'Could it be for Heather?'"
There were years in which that kind of reaction bugged David Cassidy, but that was a long time ago, too. Before the show on Saturday night, he was sitting in a room backstage, pouring himself a cup of tea, battling a stomach virus that had ruined his appetite for the last few days.
"No one will know," he promised, spooning honey into his cup.

SERIOUS KIND OF GUY
Cassidy is 52 now, no longer the shaggy, love-beaded pinup you can catch on Nick at Nite but not a weathered cynic either. He takes David Cassidy-hood pretty seriously. He stresses the excellence of the pop songs that made him famous, and the high caliber of talent assembled to make Partridge Family albums and his solo work.
For a long time, he was shocked by the scale of his fame, which forced him into a reclusive life that he found intolerable.
       "I couldn't understand how people didn't see that I was a guy playing a part, because when I finished, I was a 24-year-old. I was playing 17. I was a grown man. I didn't look it maybe, but I was."
Apparently, he caroused like a grown man, too. "I didn't drink or smoke or take drugs. I worked 18 hours a day. Women were the only vice I had." And they tossed themselves at him, lining up at the gate where the show was taped and mobbing him at every opportunity.
"I don't like people with bravado," he says, declining further details. "But I friggin' loved it."

FIRST TOUR IN A DECADE
For the last decade or so, Cassidy has worked in Vegas, and for this, his first tour in a decade, the Sin City influence shines through. The show starts with his seven-piece band vamping through a cheesy medley of '70s rock that includes Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." "I want you to see if you can rock with me," he tells the crowd, as he skips onstage.
Initially, the ladies remained in their seats, thrilled but not exactly unglued. You thought: Uh oh, we're in for a low-decibel evening of pathos.
But Cassidy, whose onstage hip thrusting owes a lot to Elvis Presley, is no quitter, and he knows what his fans want. Once the women realized that their idol might actually touch them if they eluded the security guards - who shooed away wave after wave of fans throughout the night - the concert became a high-energy game of tag. Cassidy was willing to play, though at times he seemed annoyed to again find himself drowned out by screams during his between-song introductions.
Aside from the Partridge Family hits, including "I Think I Love You," "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat," and the show's theme song, "C'mon Get Happy," he stayed away from the songs that made him famous. He played a number of covers instead, including Bob Seger's "Hollywood Nights," which for some hard-to-fathom reason he used as an encore.
For most of the time, the show onstage paled next to the show at the foot of the stage. Amid the first rush of pandemonium, one woman tried to pass Cassidy her necklace, which he declined. Another managed to pass him a cell phone that, she later would explain, was programmed to play "I Think I Love You" when it rang. But either the thing wasn't working or Cassidy couldn't hear the chime, so he stood there for an awkward moment with a Nokia against his ear. He returned the phone and shrugged.
"This never happened in the '70s," he said, smiling.

October 18-19: Uncasville, CT

Both Harry and I left the house at 5:00 oclock in the morning, first of all my husband doesn't like to drive in the dark- he gets lost getting out of the driveway! LOL!  WE DID GET LOST!! We went by the casino by two miles, that started Harry off - we finally arrive at the casino - at about 7:15 am and already a line has formed. I was third in line. I waited in line for over 12
hours to see David- by 9:00 oclock  in the morning Harry was ready to pack it in and go home, he was bored, I almost didn't make it on Saturday - had to do ALOT OF KISSING UP!!!  around 6:30 we were allowed to get our seat, I was front row the stage was about a foot in front of me, Lisa came out and got the audience reved up and before you know it- HERE 'S David - wearing a light blue silk shirt, I was right at the stage- he came over to my side and was bumping in grinding in my face - Wahooo!! I was getting a crick in my neck trying to look at his face, then it happened- a fan behind me was so excited
I see her hand come acrossed my shoulder in a clutch position as to GRAB DAVID IN THE PRIVATE AREA!!  I immediately grabbed her hand and turned around and told her David does not like that shit -  Both her and I were startled -
David saw what I did and smiled down at me -  he was all over the stage - the song set was just the same as other concerts, but that man is sexy!!!!  Harry even went to the first show and thought that David's concert was good.  Because of casino rules the show only lasted 65-90 minutes long- Going home was a complete nightmare - we wound up in some one way alley - and both of us being blind as bats I told him to take a uturn on a one way street to get on some highway which led us to western Massachusetts, and we live in Southeastern Massachusetts - I thought for sure I would not see David the next night after this, but being persistant I get up and got my clothes together and my husband looked at me and said "you just don't quit do you?" he got that right - back on the road again same time same twelve to fourteen hours wait - but Saturdays show the line was 6ft long - it was packed! David was in high gear very personable this time I was on the right side of the stage - he sang Summer Days and the part that sings hold my hand we will be free - he was holding mine!  there was fan in the audience - get this - brought along her tamborine to accompany Lon with "I woke up in love this morning -" the look on Lon and David' s face was priceless.  David wore a beautiful silk shirt - I took over 150 pictures and because of the stage lighting - David came out bright pink- I only got a hand full of pictures.
