CONCERT REPORTS:

SEPTEMBER 21-22 (NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA)

I just got back from New Orleans and seeing David's concerts there on Friday and Saturday night, the 21st and 22nd.

The venue was lacking, as it was outdoors on a stage set up blocking off one street and turning the through street into an alleyway. Being outdoors, it was only standing room unless you brought your own chair-in-a-bag.

Of special note was that the concerts were a benefit for the FDNY. Proceeds from the show (I would assume that meant their salaries, since admission was free), went to the 9/11 fund, and there was also a booth up front for the audience to contribute.

As for the show, the set list was the same, so no need to reiterate it. One difference - no No Bridge, perhaps for time constraints, as he spent some additional time sharing with the audience. This is the part I'll focus on. On Friday night, he began by saying that up until 10 minutes before the show, he was still unsure about going on stage. It was the first time he had ever felt that way. He thanked the audience for the reception, which was quite enthusiastic, and said it immediately turned things around for him - that it was the first time in 10 days he had felt any joy at all. He was quite outspoken in his patriotism, and said, as many have, that it was wonderful to see us completely united for the first time in his lifetime. On Saturday night, he was even more outspoken. Also, on Saturday night, a fan was there who came bearing a Cherish album and some red white and blue ribbons held together with a star. David was given one of the ribbons and proudly wore it through the first part of the show, before he went back to change. (On Friday night, he changed into another shirt, but on Saturday, he had learned about the South Louisiana humidity and came back in a white tee.)

As for the lack of No Bridge - it was replaced by what may be THE best a cappella rendition of The Star Spangled Banner that I have ever heard.

That's all I have at the moment.

First night:
I just got home.  I'm tired and my voice is gone.......
David spoke ALOT about his feelings of the last week.  He was VERY emotional.  He sang The Star Spangled Banner and we all sang along. I had tears in my eyes as we sang.  He did a wonderful show.  I got a VIP pass and ended up standing right in front of him.......I could touch his shoe! Got alot of his sweat on me!!  :)
I'll get a songlist together when I see him again tomorrow.  It seems to be about the same as previous concerts.  I took lots of pics. I did see a couple of people videoing the show.  I gotta get to bed....sweet DC dreams...

Second night:
Ok...I can finally sit and tell a little about my DC weekend!! The songlist was the same as in the past. He did not do No Bridge. He ended with Hollywood Nites. When he sang Tenderness...OMG my friend had to pick me up from the ground.  I think I melted into a puddle!! LOL He was awesome.  He spoke to us alot. I felt comforted by his words.  You could feel the emotion coming from him...... sadness, anger.  When he opened his arms wide and hugged his chest I felt as though he was giving us all a caring hug from a friend.  His words were genuine and from his heart. Both nites I was standing right below his feet!!! Being only about a foot away from him for two nites.... SIGH! I'm still in a David fog!! :)  By unbelievable sheer luck... I got to meet with him backstage on Sat.  He was so very, very nice & took time with each of us.  I thanked him for sharing his feelings with us about the tragedy and told him his words comforted me.  I have a plane ticket to Tampa to see him in Oct. and I wasn't sure if I was getting on that plane now.  He hugged me real tight... kissed my forehead and told me it was going to be ok..... that I better get on that plane & continue my life as he has. Of course I apoligized for getting teary eyed.  He just hugged me again... I WILL see him in Florida!!!!

I showed him my partridge tattoo and he said it was too cool!!!
