One of this country's most highly respected writer/actors, Rick Mercer returns to star in the third season of Salter Street Films' Gemini Award winning comedy series Made in Canada, which he created with Gerald Lunz and Michael Donovan.

His outstanding contribution to comedy with political punch has been recognized with 12 Gemini Awards for both writing and performing on the top-rated This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Also for his work on the series, Mercer was co-named Journalist of the Year at the Atlantic Journalism Awards. Other awards include the 1993 Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council Artist of the Year and in spring of 2000, he earned three Canadian Comedy Awards for his work on This Hour and Made in Canada.

Hailing from St. John's, Newfoundland, Mercer premiered his one-man show at Ottawa's National Arts Centre (NAC) in 1991. Show Me the Button, I'll Push It became a national hit and was performed from St. John's to Vancouver. His second one-man show, the critically acclaimed I've Killed Before; I'll Kill Again opened at NAC in 1992. It played to sold-out houses across Canada. His latest single-hander, A Good Place to Hide, also premiered at the NAC in May 1995, and was met with critical praise and full houses.

Time and Maclean's have published his work. In June 1998, his first book, Streeters was published by Doubleday and quickly rose to #1 on the Globe and Mail's National Best Seller List.

Rick hosted the East Coast Music Awards in 1998/1999 and the 2000 Gemini Awards where Made in Canada was honoured with the award for Best Comedy Series.




Peter Keleghan

Peter Keleghan's superb talent was recognized with a Gemini for Best Performance in a Comedy Program or Series for his role as the self-absorbed news anchor in The Newsroom. Keleghan has guest starred on some of television's most popular series including Seinfeld, Murphy Brown, Cheers, Burke's Law, Forever Knight and General Hospital. He was co-star and writer of the syndicated show The Comedy Mill, which won a Gemini for Best Variety Show. Peter is well-known to Canadian and American audiences as Ranger Gord on The Red Green Show.

Between The Newsroom and Made in Canada, Keleghan has appeared in the films for television including the upcoming Angels In The Infield with David Alan Grier; the thriller Ginger Snaps with Mimi Rogers and Bone Daddy with Rutger Hauer.

Classically trained, Keleghan studied acting at York University and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Keleghan went on to become a member of the 1983 Shaw Festival Company and performed skits at The Canadian Stage in Toronto .




Leah Pinsent

As the cool and ever-so-calculating television reporter in More Tears, Leah Pinsent was very savvy and very scary. Her role in Made in Canada as the sardonic, yet savvy Veronica Miller puts her into a different sort of battleground. Leah recently appeared alongside Billy Crudup in Waking the Dead and co-starred with her father Gordon Pinsent in the award-winning movie of the week Win...Again.

Her first feature film, The Bay Boy, landed her a Genie Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress while still a teenager. Pinsent went on to study acting in the US where she performed in a variety of theatrical productions in Los Angeles. She also studied and performed at the Circle in the Square in New York City as well as Williamstown Theatre in Massachusetts.

Pinsent's other notable credits include the feature films: April Fool's Day, Brutal Glory, Double Identity with Nick Mancuso and Virus with Brian Bosworth. Pinsent's television credits include a lead role opposite Charleton Heston in the Disney movie The Little Kidnappers for which she received a Gemini nomination for Best Supporting Actress.




Dan Lett
as Victor Sela,

Dan Lett's work in film, theatre and television have garnered praise from his audiences, critics and peers. On television, he has been a series regular for the past three seasons of Made in Canada as the sniveling sycophant, Victor. Prior to that he starred on Wind at My Back and recently appeared in The City, The Adventures of Shirley Holmes and Jett Jackson.

His movie of the week projects include the upcoming Songs In An Ordinary Time, Blind Faith, My Date with the President's Daughter, the award-winning movies Butterbox Babies and Anne of Green Gables II. His film work includes The Life Before This, Mrs. Soffel, The Planet of Junior Brown, Whale Music, Dead Aviators and Secret Laughter of Women.

An accomplished star of the theatre, Lett has performed in theatrical classics at many of Canada's finest venues. His credits include nine years as a member of the Shaw Festival's ensemble company. He has appeared as Tom in The Glass Menagerie at Manitoba Theatre Centre and in Speed The Plough at Canadian Stage. For his performance in Delicatessen at the Shaw Festival, he was nominated for the Mavor Moore Award for Best Actor.



Jackie Torrens
as Wanda,

Jackie Torrens is a Halifax-based writer/performer who has just finished her second season of Made in Canada as Wanda, Alan's long-suffering secretary.

As a performer, Jackie's TV credits include Black Harbour, Task Force, The Daily Blade, Street Cents, Daily Tips for Modern Living and HA! The Halifax Comedy Festival. She has appeared in the films Barb: A Superheroine Story, Waiting for Squeaky and Lipstick. In 2001, she will perform three different roles in the documentary spoof Joan Crawford: A Life Relived.

On stage, Jackie is a founding member of comedy troupe Birdy Num Num and her critically-acclaimed one-person stage shows include Tales From The Glockenspiel That Is My Heart and Strange Antiques. Her most recent show Live! Nude! Animal! toured Nova Scotia last fall.




Emily Hampshire
as Siobhan Roy,
Alan's daughter, Star of "Beaver Creek"

Back for her third season on Made in Canada, Emily Hampshire returns as the conniving daddy's girl, Siobhan. With a repertoire that includes feature film, television and theatre, Emily has proven to be one of Canada's leading up-and-coming actors. She has starred in such feature films as The Life Before This with Jennifer Dale and Catherine O'Hara and The Happy Face Murders with Ann Margaret and played a lead role in the feature Boy Meets Girl. She recently guest starred on The City and will appear in the upcoming movies of the week Chasing Cain and The Ride with Yaphet Kotto.
