CHAPTER 4

Around noon, Lexy heard the doorbell ring and their maid went to answer it.

"Lexy, you have a visitor, my dear!"

"Coming!" Lexy yelled down from her room. As she descended the stairs she caught sight of her visitor. "Jack?!?! What are you doing here?" As she came closer to him, Jack looked up and smiled awkwardly.

"Uh.......Jen sent me in to get you. We're all ready to go."

"I...I'm not sure I can go. You......you see my ankle still hurts a bit and our maid recommends staying in bed."

Jack looked at her in disbelief and spoke in his Brooklyn accent, "First of all, you look fine. And second, if you were bed- ridden you'd be in bed." Lexy blushed by being caught, and looked up at Jack nervously.

"Ok, truthfully.....I'm sort of unskilled in the sport of bowling, and I SO do not want to look stupid......"

"Don't worry about it. Look, I'll teach you. You'll do fine. And if you mess up, I'll be there to help you out, ok?" Jack looked at Lexy and grabbed her hand in his to pull her out the front door. Luckily, Lexy's purse and jacket were already on the counter by the door, so she grabbed them with her free hand right before they left.

Already in the cab were Gabe and Jen.

"Took you long enough, Jack!"

"I needed a little convincing," Lexy defended, giving Jen a stern look. *Thank goodness I'm wearing something descent. A tank and jeans seems appropriate. Wish I could say the same thing for Jen.*

"I thought I said something simple."

"This IS simple!" Jen looked down at her clothing and did a once-over.

"You are not auditioning to become the next billboard model!" Gabe added. Lexy smiled at her friend sympathetically as she saw Jen dressed in a leather skirt, black go-go boots, and cashmere sweater.

"Whatever Gabe. Just stick to what you're good at. Fashion is just NOT your thing."

"Sure, Jen. Whatever you say," Gabe laughed and turned to direct the cab driver.

"So where is this bowling alley again?" Jen asked.

"Oh! On the outskirts of Brooklyn. Not too far," Jack answered.

"WHAT!?!? Brooklyn? Are you serious!"

Half a bottle of anit-bacterial hand gel later and Jen was back to her old self again. Well, as close as she would come.

"Excuse me Miss, but do you wash and deodorize these shoes? My dermatologist says I have to stay away from any bacteria that will cause athletes foot." The old woman cocked her eyebrow and rolled her eyes, obviously annoyed by the girl.

"Um, thank you mis," Gabe piped in and pulled Jen away from the check- out counter.

Sitting down at the nearest open lane, Jack began putting on the shoes Lexy bought him.

"So....do they fit?" Lexy asked hopefully.

"Perfect," Jack smiled.

"Good."

"What about your's?"

"They're fine. Not as bad as I thought they would be." Jack moved over to where Lexy was sitting and began to explain the rules to her. Gabe went up to the score board and began writing down their names. And Jen was still trying to get herself to actually put ON the shoes without fainting from the odor.

"Ok, first up.........Jack," Gabe announced.

"Come on............I'll show you," Jack said, and ushered Lexy up next to him. She observed how he picked up the ball, and made his way to the lane, positioning his shot so that it aligned to the arrows on the lane. He drew back his arm with the bowling ball in it, and let it go with enough force to make the ball reach the end of the lane where it hit all the pins standing.

"STRIKE!" Gabe yelled and high-fived Jack.

"Ok, next up.........Lexy." In a nervous state, Lexy picked up her bowling ball and made her way back to the lane, standing next to her coach, Jack. As she positioned herself in the same manner, Jack came up behind her and slowly guided her arm in the right movement, bending her knees a little to have balance. Lexy once again, was lightheaded and loved that intimate contact with Jack, and was all but happy when he let go to give her room. As she rolled the ball across the lane, the bowling ball only knocked down three pins.

"It's ok. Here, try again," Jack offered and handed her another bowling ball. Once again, he positioned himself behind Lexy and guided her movements, only this time, savoring the moment to be close to her. To be able to smell her hair and hold her in his arms. But then he knew he had to let her go. Blushing furiously, Lexy looked over at Jen and smiled.

"You Go Girl!" Jen mouthed. Gabe just smiled and began filming the two. As Lexy attempted her second shot, he zoomed in his camera to film the rest of the pins fall down on contact.

"YES!!!" Lexy screamed and hauled herself into Jack's arms to hug him. Jack hugged her back with just as much enthusiasm. Realizing her action, Lexy shyly pulled away and smiled.

"Thank you Jack."

"Sure." As the two stared at eachother, Gabe made his way to the lane, clearing his throat as he passed the two. Jack and Lexy suddenly looked away shyly and went different ways. Lexy went to sit next to Jen to help her with her shoes, and Jack made his way over to the food court to buy some drinks for everyone.

"YES! STRIKE!" Gabe cheered. And with hands still in the air, looked around expectantly waiting for applause, but found that no one was paying attention. He just shrugged and patted his back for encouragement, and made his way back to the scoreboard.
