  • David Beckham’s goal against Chelsea on 22 February 1997 was measured at 97.9 mph.
  • David has never wished to play for any team other than Manchester United. He has been training with the team since he was fourteen years old.
  • When Beckham trained for Tottenham he wore a Manchester United kit!
  • David Beckham’s first League debut was, in fact, not for Manchester United, but for Preston North End when he was on loan.
  • Beckham plays with team number 7 but originally had the number 10 shirt. When Sheringham joined he took 10 so Beckham moved to the number 7 shirt recently vacated by Eric Cantona.
  • When David Beckham was twelve years old, he won a Bobby Charlton Soccer Skills award. The award was presented to him at Old Trafford on a match day. The prize included a trip to the Nou Camp stadium, Barcelona.
  • David scored his first goals in the Champions League against Galatasary in 1994, in the Premiership against Aston Villa in 1995 and in the FA Cup against Chelsea in 1996. His first international goal was scored against Colombia in World Cup 98.
  • David is married to Victoria Adams of the Spice Girls and has one son, Brooklyn. David has Brooklyn's name tattooed on his lower back and has recently had Victoria's name tatooed on his arm in Hindi.
  • David put's his footballing skills down to hours of continuous practice and training. Especially working with his dad and on his own, when he was younger, in the local park until late in the evening.
  • David was made captain of the England squad on 15 November 2000 in a friendly match against Italy after serving as vice captain for the previous two internationals.
  • Whilst on loan to Preston North End in the 1994/1995 season, David scored two goals in the five games that he played there. One against Doncaster and the other against Fulham.
  • In the 1994-95 season he scored both for Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League and for Preston North End in the Third Division.
  • The study of David is part of a 12-week "football culture" module for a University Degree course at Staffordshire University.
  • David wears a new pair of football boots for every game he plays at an estimated cost of £300 a pair.
  • A recent experiment at Manchester United showed that he runs an average 8.8 miles per game - more than any other player in the team.
