     It is not often that an affluent diamond expert from Paradise City, becomes an unpaid welfare worker in shabby Luceville. But Larry Carr had been advised a complete change of scene by his psychiatrist, from opulence to poverty, to help him overcome a personal tragedy, which could ruin his career. At first,  the dirt and fetidness of the shanty town appalled him, but then, slowly, he became a part of it.  He found himself enjoying the violence and terror of life in the Luceville slums.
