- A Tribute by a Die Hard Fan
Feedback from Visitors |
After the launching of this fan site on James Hadley Chase in June 2004, I have been receiving mail from visitors to the site, who are Chase fans scattered all over the world. Their responses and feedback have been very encouraging. I have also received a number of replies on a post I made in a discussion forum on Chase. I plan to depict some of these comments, (after editing, if necessary), together with the e-mail addresses of the senders, in this fansite, so that gradually, a lot of Chase fans all over the world can come in contact with each other, as the first step towards the formation of a virtual fan club on Chase. Some of the feedback received is given below: I have decided to wind up my ChaseLover's Forum and give full encouragement to Steve's new Discussion Board.
Some of the feedback received are as follows:
It's indeed a great work done by you. I had gone through the portal entirely. It's really nice. I will search for those books (In fact I think I had seen "Try This One For Size", somewhere in Mumbai) and if I find them, I will forward it to you. |
|
Your website made my day. I have a few JHC hardbacks from London. There is a company in Bangalore that publishes all his titles for Rs 50.00 |
|
Finally got some time to look at the Chase website today after a hectic fortnight. Good stuff. I think you have re ignited my interest in reading Chase. I think we share some favorites : "This Say for a Shroud", "One Bright Summer Morning", " The Vulture is a Patient Bird" "Want to Stay Alive". I think you should add the scans of some of the covers ( different publishers- a few by Panther, some by Corgi and (if you have any) covers of the Chase books published by Ace in their double mysteries series- they're great). Will look around for some links to add to your site. |

It is a noteworthy attempt that you are putting forward in reviving a legend. Way to go!!! The web site is fine. .I wish you could facilitate a means of enrolling members into the community, have forums, donations etc. .In the future hope you can host a separate domain. Good luck and try to keep me posted. Thanks in advance |

Your website on JHC is fantastic!! I hope the whole world will come to realise the genius entertainer of all times. | Nizar |
Love JHC too...Happy to find someone who loves it too | Dy |
Hi, great to find some JHC fans out there! I am a JHC collector with 53 different titles. these include 22 1st edition hardbacks and 31 paperbacks. Sorry I have none of the titles you are after. I also collect Phantom comics and have over 800 comics in my collection, not including doubles and swaps. they are mainly Frew, but also have Phantoms from US, Sweden, France, Mexico and the UK. if you let me know what else you are after and what JHC you have for trade. I am in New Zealand and look forward to hearing from you. |

You have really done a great job. This is a very bold step to fill the existing vacuum about this great legend. But I think your list of his books is not exhaustive. Find attached my compiled list and see if it can be of use for you to review your list. Once again I give you 'thumbs up' for your effort |

I live in Michigan and have all 91 of his novels, as far as I can tell, including all the books that you have mentioned. A few of them mentioned by you, "Miss Callaghan ...", "No Business of Mine" and "Blonde's Requiem" are extremely scarce, and I had to pay almost $125 for each of them. The others mentioned by you such as "Goldfish...." are widely available, including new editions thru Amazon.com, so you will find them easily. Other scarce books are "Last Page" and first editions of "No Orchids for Miss Blandish". I have also most of Chase's 13 re-titles, such as "Ruthless", etc., but I am missing about 4 of them. There is a "rare" Chase title out there called "He Lived Only For Revenge", that is selling for about $400, apparently only 1 copy seems to exist, hence my assertion that it is a fake. I am unable to obviously send you any of the books that you mention, but if you need scans, story lines, etc., please let me know. I will be happy to oblige. |

Well done, Keep up the good work | Karnava |
I have been reading James Hadley Chase books for the past thirty five years and I have read and re- read almost all his books more than a dozen times. I did own Blonde's Requiem but I do not have it now.. it was really an awesome book. But A Short Time To Live.. was very easily available when I was in India about seven years ago...If I come across it, I will definitely let you know... I wrote about seven plays based on his books.. and staged them also (unprofessionally) ... they were just for competition and I won prizes in almost all the plays... by the way my name is Amit Mehta and presently I am in Albuquerque, New Mexico.. USA. .... I am a big big fan of James and I congratulate you for starting this website |

Great work buddy... I was so happy to c a website of JHC. The pictures n background in main page can't be seen, but other than that, the info is solid! I live in Singapore. I can't get much books here of JHC. Not many 2nd book stores. I have about 15 of his books and I treasure them a lot |
Vijay |
A very nice web site... glad to know there are still fans of James Hadley Chase...You have done lots of hard work it seems, and I do congratulate you for that...its is informative ..and even I learnt a few things about him that I didn't know before... |

At long last someone has taken the initiative to pay tribute to Mr. James Hadley Chase on the Internet. Good work! I understand that information on Mr. Chase is hard to find. Some Japanese translations of his books may have additional biographical information. Being able to read Japanese, I will try to locate his books and if I can, translate that info for you. |
Jitinder Lakhana |
Your creation is VERY good indeed! Not that I understood each part of it but whatever I did, I was impressed . | Arundhati Mallik |
I will get even more broke now, chasing down Chase's books! "You Have Yourself a Deal" is the first one I've read and it was great. Girland is one of the funniest characters I've come across in fiction. He's great. Thanks for your site! |

I am a 39 year old Scot, living in Renfrew, near Glasgow, and I am a huge JHC fan, I collect his books in both hardback and paperback, I am also building a collect from different publishers, I currently have a copy of every title, with the exception of the two trilogy collections published in the late 80's. I have been reading these books since visiting a family friend in the South of France at the tender age of 11. I have a couple of copies of 'Never Trust A Woman', it has been published by Corgi in the mid 80's paperback only. If I can help with any info or titles let me know |
Ian Rhode |
I checked out the site and I think its pretty awesome. All the small pieces of info about him are also interesting and the general layout is great. The only problem is that the site appears too bright or gaudy at times so if you could change the colour combos of the site it would be appreciated even more. Overall, it deserves my praise. |

I have visited your website dedicated to James Hadley Chase and would like to thank you for your efforts. I too am a fan of Chase and became one after reading his first book in the early 70's. Unfortunately I have not been able to read all his works but l would like to do that whenever I get the chance. My name is Uday Perera and I am from Sri Lanka. I was in India from 1965 to 1974 during which time I was in school. I would like to know about you too. Regards |

My name is Vladimir Matushenko. I am Russian. I admire your site dedicated to one of my most favorite writers - James Hadley Chase. I have learned a lot of new about him thanks to You. Thank you very much! In Russia exists a huge amount of translations of the Chase's books (during the Perestroika in Russia there was a real "boom of Chase" ). Nowadays all his novels are translated in Russian. Many of them are translated several times, with the invented titles (I have done a list of these titles on my small site about Hard-Boiled Authors http://rraymond.narod.ru/index.htm). I hope to your response. |
Vladimir |
Hi, I am a big fan of James Hadley Chase! It is very nice to read a little of this great writer. I have looked at the web many times for facts about Chase, and now I feel like I am coming home! My English its not so very bright so I must stop for this time, but perhaps I write you a little an other time! Thanks great for the site! From Håkan Töyrä in Sweden. Have a nice day!! |
Håkan Töyrä |
In order to find JHC pictures you can visit the address: http://mapage.noos.fr/chase/photos.html. I found your website searching in the net for any information I could get for JHC. Did you find the book "GOLDFISH HAVE NO HIDING PLACE"? I have a copy in my hands. Please let me know if you still want it. |
Angelique Argyrou |
Hi ! What a great site! Have been a fan of JHC since seven, and now have every title in over one thousand editions and languages. All my foreign holidays are spent scouring bookshops for JHC !! Great to know that so many others out there love him as well! House of Stratus republished some of his novels a few years ago - but why not all ? |

Hello. I think you page is wonderful. I am from Belarus and I am Chase's fan. He is a detective genius. Your page is the best Chase page I ever seen. It's great. I have some questions on Chase's biography and bibliography. If it's possible I send them to you. Best regards |
Alex |
Hey, I came across your website while I was searching for a website that is dedicated to James Hadley Chase. I was required to present an informative speech and I thought that Chase's work would be perfect for my speech. I love your website as I am a great fan of Chase. I must also admit that it was very thoughtful of you to create that website in honor of Chase. Well, I just thought I should say this to you.. |
Linda |
I am a die hard JHC fan just like anyone else from Mumbai, India, currently living is USA. I was quite impressed by your site and the feedback you received from other fans. I use to read them in school and college era and somehow lost touch. Now I am 35 and for last one year I been collecting all the books and reviving my lost interest and been successful in collecting most of them except few. I do buy and sell JHC books on Ebay and if there is any book that you do not have in your collection, please let me know and if I get an extra copy I will definitely forward it to you as a gift. Please include me in your list and keep up the site |

Hi, congratulations from an Italian fan of JHC. You have done a great job, which only a great fan could achieve. I have 39 titles in English, 51 in Italian (a very wide collection for Italy, some dating back to the 50s) and 3 in French, many are doubles, in total I still miss 18 of his novels. I had almost forgotten about him, sad that there were no more books in the shops; your site and a few others made me want to read the missing ones and maybe also many I have read. Another question: on a website I found mention of :"Meet Helga Rolfe" and "Meet Marc Girland". I suppose they gather all their stories, but I have no other information. Do you?. Again, congratulations |
Alberto Zylbersztajn |
I have studied your website with much interest. I have the title "No Business of Mine" as edition by Robert Hale, first published 1947, and republished in 1976, featuring Steve Harmas and Netta Scott and Corridan. I could make a scan or a photocopy of this entire book, if you still need it. It seems to me that the titles, Never trust a Woman, Ruthless are ghost titles, i.e. titles or books that have never been published, because they do not occur in the catalog of the British Library which contains all other titles by James Hadley Chase. Kind regards, |
Ulrich Stiehl |
Just
been through your site and couldn’t believe that there are so many die
hard fans of him, I thought I was the only one. You have done a great
job and I hope you keep up the good work done. I used to do a lot of
reading of various authors, but none intrigued me like Chase, He, like
they say, makes you live the situation. Nothing like getting into
a Chase book, no matter how many times you have read it. Once Again,
Great Work and keep it up. |

It was indeed a great work by you to create a web site for one of the greatest master story tellers. I have been an avid fan of JHC since my school days and unfortunately i have lost track of his books over a period of time. My request to you would be that would it be possible for you to guide me to to a source from where i can procure all the novels written by James Hadley Chase. Looking forward to hear from you. Warm regards |
Binu Kosh |
I have read almost all James Hadley's novels and your work is really fantastic. Congrats. | Anil Navalkar, |
Hello, We must congratulate you on the job well done. We are happy to tell you that we are also one hell of chase readers from Nigeria. We have been having a continual argument on the issue that a book written by James Hadley Chase in the name of "Bury Him Like a Hero" exist. It is supposed to be the last part of Malik and Mark Girland series (Part 5). We think you are one of the best people in the world to provide clarification on the issue judging from what can be seen on your website. Best Regards |
Murtala Abdulrahman (On behalf of the JHC fans) |

Hello, My name is Timo Palonen and live in Finland. I have been working with my site over two years now and in that time I have scanned lots of Finn paperback book covers there. Recently, I stumbled to your site about marvelous James Hadley Chase in my quest to find out more about books I have scanned on my site. I very much enjoyed the site and stuff in there and I thought it would be cool to put your site on my link list. So.... there it is now. Just thought to let you know... Go well, peace |
Palonen |
I am wondering if JHC books are still been reproduced or published. I am sure there are million of fans who would like a complete library of his work. Growing up in Nigeria, a vigorous high school curriculum, JHC novels were just like escapes for me, which inadvertently helped me in learning the nuances of the English language. I just celebrated my 50th birthday, and right now, i yearn to read or even re-read those novels again. Please point me to where I could find those jewels of novels. I now reside in the United state, but will send money anywhere the books can be found. Thank you |
William |
Hello..while searching information about J. H. Chase I found your website. Good job about this author who is sometimes forgotten. I made a little website about popular French paperback cover books. In these pages, two collections had edited some Chase's books in then 60's and 70's.I hope these 'exotic' editions will have an interest for you. Feel free to pick up the scans I did. Friendly yours. |
Michel Philippe |
Finally, after all these
years a good web site on JHC. Excellent work pal. I too am a big fan of
Chase. Ur Web site ROCKS!! Cheers

As I think I said before you site is very impressive. Now that I have had an opportunity to look closer I think the most challenging part of the site was to bring together for the first time for fans the sources for the TV productions and plays. Obviously it is ongoing and there are going to be gaps, but this page is particularly well done even although it is clearly a complex task. Very good work! |
