Love In Limbo
Filmed - June
10, 1991 – July 30, 1991
Russell Crowe has said his role of
Arthur in Love in Limbo is one of his favorites. I believe it is
an important role because the composition of the character. It is
so far removed from any role he had played before or since, and what
information about Russell that is available couldn't possibly be more
different than this character. To my way of thinking the role of Arthur
was the birth of the chameleon (his extraordinary ability to 'become'
his characters). That the same man in a short period of time
managed to play a religious nerd-like Welsh virgin and an ultra dominant
leader of a skin head group is amazing in itself. But the Arthur
that Russell played is an endearing sweet role open silly and funny, it
is a testament to his talent that it is so simple a role, but so well
done that you walk away liking young Arthur even though he is a bit of a
prig. One highlight of the film to is a brief clip of Russell
singing Amazing Grace.
Russell has always taken his roles
seriously and Arthur was no exception, he paid out of his own pocket for
a ticket to Wales staying there for a period of time to get the cadence
of the speech and mannerisms. I have heard from some Welsh people
that his accent was spot on.
Lil is a very difficult film to find,
(it has never been released on NTSC) however it has been shown on The
Romance Channel under a different name, unfortunately I do not know what
title they used. But if you come across a Russell Crowe movie about
three boys looking for love, it is Love in Limbo in disguise. For people
living in Australia it might be possible to find this film in rental
stores, or in stores that sell used film. It is currently out of
print and not expected to be re-released
