Buffy The Vampire Slayer was written by Joss Whedon and released in 1992. It was the forerunner of the series but no-one at the time expected the series to take of as well as it did. The movie starred Kristy Swanson as Buffy and dwells on her days as a cheerleader at Hemery High School and tells us of her meeting with Merrick (played by Donald Sutherland) who said that he was her Watcher and her destiny was to help rid the world of Vampires and assorted evils.
