Present Day: July 30, 2004
**Sigh** I lean back against the porch swing and let my leg push the white, wooden bench into motion.
"I see Venus, in its radiant splendor, on the approaching night sky...'
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night as a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear'"
His gentle, deep-toned voice caressed my senses. He knows me all too well by quoting from William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
He points up to the cosmic light among the heavens. As I shift my gaze from him to the silvery orb, I nod.
Smiling, I feel a blush coloring my cheeks.
My attention returns to the advancing twilight, the colors reminding me of a canvas of watercolors, as each fades softly and slowly into the west.
The sun is sinking low on the horizon; orange, red, purple, blue…each with purpose, each with beauty.
This sunset was making the sky into art itself. Never before have I seen such beauty.
"It's sublime, isn't?" I say in a sigh
"Yes, I can't recall a more brilliant, visual display of God's gift to mankind than this."
As he observes quietly, it makes me remember…to think back.
I take a deep breath and softly release it.
"Do you remember?" I hear oh-so softly in my ear.
A slight giggle escapes me and I look down at our fingers that are intertwined.
With his right hand he lifts my chin so that I look into his eyes. A gentle squeeze of my hand and it's released.
"Yes. How could I forget?" I whisper wistfully.
His arm reaches around my shoulder and I am brought into his embrace.
"Oh, yes. It was the day that changed our lives forever." ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
