STATUS: The Ivorian government conceded to the African Press Centre (CAPE), a broadcasting service stationed in the district of Cocody in Abidjan which can not exceed 10 km in broadcasting.
Women's Solidarity Radio (RFS) broadcasts programs with the intention to accomapny and support the development initiatives and activities of the local community where it is working. On a contractual basis, they can use the services of other businesses.
It is forbidden for community radios to broadcast publicities.
FORMAT: RFS is a sociocultural radio targetting primarily youth, women, families and the working world.
BROADCAST: from the district of Cocody in Abidjan on the frequency 105.6 Mhz. Strength of emission: 350 watts stereo.
TARGET GROUP: between 15 and 45 years.
AUDIENCE: goal to reach in the next two years: 70% of the homes of Cocody and its surroundings.
PROGRAMMING: 18 hours a day:
- educational programs: 30%
- cultural programs: 30%
- animated programs: 20%
- miscellaneous: 10%
The programs will be broadcast in French, Baoulé, Dioula, and in Bété.
START DATE: 15 octobre 1998.
FINANCING: budget for equipment and installation: 25 million F CFA; estimated running costs for 1998: 3 million F CFA a month.
RESOURCES: It is forbidden to publicize brand names and products; however the following are accepted: sponsoring, grants and donations.
PARTNERSHIP: The RFS station works through an active partnership with the non-profit organization AUDE, recognized a public utility by decree # 96-315 on April 24, 1996. RFS shares with AUDE the same objectives: to promote and favour the economic and social development of the Côte d'Ivoire by the creation of sanitary, educational, and cultural programs.
RFS participates as well in the first African Broadcasting network and sonor datatbase on the Internet, "BDP ONLINE" which allows exchanges of radio programs on the questions of development and democracy.
