64. Milton Travis COWELL
was born on 26 Jul 1852 in Benton County, Tennessee. He died in 1909 in Newton
County, Arkansas. He was buried in Cross Roads Cemetery, Newton County, Arkansas.
Milton Travis Cowell family setteled in Newton County, between 1879 and
1880. They had moved from Benton County, Tennessee. After his death in
1909 his wife and children and grown children moved south to Johnson
County, where many of his descendants still live today.
He was married to Martha
(Mattie) Francis DOHERTY (daughter of John P. DOHERTY and
Sarah Jane POE) on 5 Jan 1871 in Benton County, Tennessee.
Martha (Mattie) Francis DOHERTY (photo) was
born in Dec 1855 in Tennessee. She died in Johnson County, Arkansas. She was
buried in Lamar Cemetery, Johnson County, Arkansas. Mattie was sickly when they
lived in Tennessee. After they moved to
Arkansas she got her health back and became a midwife. She would charge a
fee of five dollars to deliver a baby. She was called Aunt Mat by the
relatives. Milton Travis COWELL and Martha (Mattie) Francis DOHERTY had the
