British farce comes to PHS

Where can you go to hear obnoxious British accents, see some classic miming, and enjoy more laughs than a barrel of monkeys? The Pomona Catwalk Theatre Company's latest production, Noises Off, is exactly what you're looking for.

Noises Off is a British comedy which features nine different characters playing still more characters. "It's a play within a play," explained Noises Off director Gavin Mayer. " The play shows the relationships between actors on and off the stage."

Act Two of Noises Off consists mostly of physical action, according to Mayer. " It's a great challenge for the actors because there really hasn't been a farce here at Pomona in a while," said Mayer.

"The show's all about timing. It's difficult," commented junior Dan Rash who will be playing "Tim Algood."

Tryouts for Noises Off were held during the spring to insure that cast members could have the summer to work on their British accents and memorization of their lines. Actual rehearsals for the play began the first day of school.

"It's an awesome cast," commented junior Mike Lax, who will be playing "Freddy Fellows" in the production. "Mayer has tolerated a lot of stuff, but the show (Noises Off) is hilarious," Lax concluded. "There's even a part where two of the characters run around without any pants on."

Performances for Noises Off are October 5, 6, and 7, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale the week of September 25.

"Come and see it (Noises Off)or else we'll come and rip off your legs," Rash and Lax jokingly threatened.
