staff writer While most departments have been easing their way into the new semester, instrumental music has already worked hard into the night preparing for the concert season; but this is not new for a department who we have came to know. "There is a whole lot going on this semester," stated Pomona band director W.L. Whaley. This can be an understatement with more than groups performing their own respective concerts. For starters, the Symphonic Band performs at CU on April 17 followed by the band spring concert a week later on the 24th. Not to mention the many students performing in one of the many all-county and honor band concerts. On top of that some students are getting ready for this year's musical. Along with band concerts, the Winter Guard and Winter Percussion Ensemble are getting ready for their own events. The Winter Guard next performance is on January 27. "If all goes well, we should have a great show by our first performance," stated Whaley. The Winter Guard's season runs until the beginning of April. The Winter Percussion Ensemble has a similar season to the Winter Guard's. The first percussion event is on the third of February at Dakota Ridge High School. The percussion's season also lasts until April when it ends at the WGI Championships in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. |
