Mission 3 Reverse Engineering

OVERVIEW   

This is a very large map and consists of a large number of maneuvers. The main objective is to destroy the dam by setting explosives using the skills of the Sapper. Every commando in this mission can play an important part in accomplishing your goal. However, once across the river, the Green Beret can be substituted with the Marine. The Green Beret can be left on the North side of the river. This depends on you and which commandos you like to use the most. The Spy is indispensable in this mission and you must learn how to use his distract with great skill. Without him it is next to impossible to complete this mission. The First Encounter

The easiest way to eliminate the first patrol is to line your men up in a straight line behind the rock. Then use your pistols to attract the patrol when they are at their closest to you. This prevents them from coming around the North side of the tower. After the patrol has been taken out, take all the commandos to the small cove in the rocks. Use the Marine to crawl around and harpoon the sentry standing by the rock. Be careful and wait for his line of sight to change before you crawl into view. Once you have harpooned him, continue to stand until the lower guard by the river sees you. Then, quickly lay down and crawl back behind the rock. When the sentry comes to investigate. Shoot him with pistol fire. Now take your men down to the river and dispatch the remaining sentry with one of the commandos and a stealth maneuver.

Getting the Uniform

The Marine is the primary man for this job. He is the only one who can swim under water. The most Eastern sentry is the starting point. Have the marine wait under water at the rivers edge until the sentry passes. It is then an easy task to dispatch the soldier. Grab the boat and re-enter the water. Enter the compound between the fence and the spools of wire. This is a blind spot. Crawl up to the two sentries by the clothes line and dispatch them in the order you encounter them. Make a circle down toward the river between the houses and the spools of wire. There you will find a sentry that must be taken out. The harpoon is a good choice of weapons for this task. Now crawl back into the river being very careful of the last two sentries line of vision. The stationary sentry sees all the way to the spools of wire. Once you are in the water, head West, back up the river to the edge of the Western fence of the compound. Wait here until the walking sentry turns his back on you. Quickly change out of the SCUBA and to your harpoon, dispatch the walking sentry and then the standing guard. Move back into the river and use the same technique on the two remaining sentries just outside the compound, or if you are just a little daring, let them go. Time for the Spy to get his uniform. The Marine will have to pick him up in the rubber raft. It is an easy task, now that the compound is clear. However, there is any number of combinations that can be done in the compound. Remember, to be awarded the most silver stars, you must act with speed. When the Spy gains the uniform, the Marine will offload him back on the shore of the North side of the river. And load the Green Beret and the Sapper into the raft. They will have to wait here for a brief period. Have them chew some gum or tell some jokes while the Spy and Marine work. 8^)

Gaining Access To The Power Station

The Spy's job now requires a lot of running! Send him over the dam and into the compound to the switch for the electric fence. He must throw the switch and then immediately run back outside the compound to where the sentry is walking between the fence and the river. He must distract this guard so that the Marine can get into place. The best place to distract the sentry is just behind the two story guard house with the flag about center of the wooden power pole and the light pole to the East of it. While the Spy is doing all this running, send the Marine across the river in the SCUBA to the Southeastern most point. He must wait on the Spy and the sentry that is walking at this end of the river. Once the Spy has the other sentry distracted, wait for the sentry to reach the end of his station and turn around. Jump from the water and dispatch the sentry with stealth. Now it is an easy task to harpoon the stationary guard inside the fence. It is now time for re-enforcements. The Marine must bring them over on the raft. There are two places he can bring them. Either the Southeastern most point or a just behind the two story guard house with the flag. Either place is good, except that the Southeastern location requires the moving of the boat. While the Marine is accomplishing all this, the Spy must poison the sentry his is distracting. The only way of doing this now, is to release him and wait till his back is to you. Dispatch him quickly. If you have located yourself in the correct place, no one will see you and you won't have to move his body. Now the Spy must run back into the compound and distract the guard that is standing at the South corner of the two story guard house. You must distract him from behind so that he faces toward the compound gate. Once this is done, the Marine can land the raft. I prefer the location behind the guard house. You don't have to move the raft again this way. Disembark the raft and have the Sapper cut open the fence. You now have access to the inside of the compound.

Acquiring The Explosives

There are several ways you can do this and that's what makes this game so great. The right way is what works best for you. Enter the compound with the Sapper and either the Marine or The Green Beret. But leave one of these guys in the boat. That way you don't have to worry about loading him later. I will use the Green Beret for this walk through. Take the Sapper and the Green Beret and crawl along the fence until you pass the first generator cage. Crawl South until you reach the back side of the small house. Wait for the sentry to reach the pinnacle of his path and then use the knife to dispatch him. You might want to hide this body just in case you did not get him quickly. He could be seen by one of the guards where the North explosives are located. Now have the Sapper crawl up and pick up the explosives. Remember to lay back down. The Green Beret must now dispatch the two guards located at the North explosives. Dispatch the one on the right first and hide his body behind the house. Now crawl between the house and the explosives and dispatch the other guard. Hide his body also. The Sapper can now pick up these explosives also. The Green Beret is not finished yet. He must now eliminate the guard that the Spy is distracting. His body should be hidden as well. Now get your men out through the hole in the fence and load the Green Beret. The Spy must now distract the guard outside the gate on the left. Distract him from behind. This is where the Spy will wait until the charges are set.

Blowing Up The Dam

The Marine and the Green Beret should be in the raft. The Spy is distracting the guard outside the gate. The Sapper must now set his charges. There are two good ways to do this. The first is to set a charge by the machine gun nest and quickly get into the boat and row about halfway into the river. Once the machine gun nest is blown, row over to the base of the dam in the middle and set several charges and then row to the North bank. The only problem here, is that the guards at the gate come to investigate and will shoot. Either your timing has to be perfect, or you have to be very lucky. The second method is much easier. Have the Sapper crawl to the little alcove between the machine gun nest and the rocks. Wait for the sentry to turn his back to you and set the charges. Set as many as you can because you want a big explosion. Now run to the raft and have the Marine row to the North side of the river. If you have set enough charges, the explosion will take out the machine gun nest and destroy the dam. Once the Sapper is in the boat the Spy can release the guard and run back over the top of the dam. The truck will be waiting for you at the base of the dam on the North side of the river. Load your men up and head out! You have completed the mission!
